Impact? It's an example, doesn't matter what nationality you are. Im not American either (legally I was born one and still am, but that's not the point) but it still serves as a cautionary tale. We are all human, no matter what color we are or what we call our home. We are all from planet earth and on the inside we all look the same.

Uh I'm pretty sure Batarians were created in the same mindset as Orcs were in the LOTR. You're not suppose to like them. You're suppose to hate/dislike them if anything. We love to hate bad guys and villains, what's the big deal? That's how most fictional stories work. There are characters you like and indentify with and there are characters you don't like and would probably like to see get punched in the face. (Like Udina, etc.)

Honestly someone's going to have to explain to me why I should like Batarians.

No, in psychology we are taught how SIMILAR all minds, animal and human, are. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't get involved.
