For some reason when trying to play mass effect 2 on steam today it said that I had to update the game to a newer more "efficient format". That was all it said and i notice no difference in the game now. It has never done this for other sream games can someone please tell me what this means exactly?

It did that to me too. Then steam wouldn't let me play the game. got "game unavailable" bull**** line.

My game is also now unplayable, even through the ME2 launcher and direct EXE launching.

Any bets on EA requiring this change and breaking things so we have to use their game client? ;)

I'll eat hat....

Was a Steam cloud sync change. Restart steam and it's playable.

I had the same problem.. I restarted steam many times, and the problem still there. Steam tried to update my ME2 game, but the download speed rate stay at 0 bytes/s. Just a moment, between 1 minute or less, steam begins to download the "update". Finally, I decided to let steam download all night. 5 hours to download 30 MB.. That's incredible!!

Relieve, I can play ME2 again.. But that horrible night I won't forget.. It was a very dark night.. O.o

This wouldn't be a problem if you bought the proper version of ME2 instead of the point and click adventure one.

I hate steam. Period. I was forced to have it when I tried installing Half-Life 2 and it slowed my computer down, and whenever I went online it downloaded loads of patches and stuff, eating into my bandwidth and rendered the game "unavailable" whilst doing so. I do not want that piece of intrusive game tampering crap on my PC. Ever. So there.

You know, the console version. The one where you aren't "clicking on enemies to kill them"

Use gun on man. Ooh what fun.

Black raptor are you dissing the pc version of the game? I'd say it's better on the computer than the console if anyone asked for my humble opinion. But that's just me of course and each of us to our own I guess :o) but for me, you just cannot beat the mouse for speed and accuracy and you can configure the controls in a myriad of ways. Having said though, I do generally like the controller on my PS3, I'm just not as good at aiming on shooters with the analog stick :o(

Forgot to say as well, if you buy the retail version for the pc, you know the one that comes on a couple of DVDs in a plastic jewel case, you don't need steam either :o)

I used to hate it too when i had an older computer and it couldnt handle steam as well, but if you have something alittle bit more powerful steam ends up being really useful and relativly pain free.

^^ I still don't want it on my computer. If there are updates or patches available then I want to download and/or install them when I choose to. I do not want a piece of software deciding such things for me as it sees fit and I most certainly do not want it to "invalidate" a piece of software that I've paid hard earned money for whilst it downloads and makes me wait for ages until it's finished before I can use that paid for software again. I hate steam and the smug intrusive nature it has. I am in charge of my computer and I decide what gets installed, patched and updated and I decide when that happens. Not some poxy piece of resource sapping crap like steam. There. Rant over lol :

Yeah well that makes sense, but i'm pretty sure that you can tell steam to disable automatic updates.

Now, If I wanted to be a borderline pedantic troll I might say "Yes buy the console version and it will even help you to click on the enemy if your not quite accurate enough"
But I dont want to so I wont
