The indentured servitude (which by the way was the way many white Americans came to this country and was fairly common until after the American Revolution when legalized slavery ended it) contract broker is not a slaver.
Even Miranda admits that humanity can learn a lot of the asari. Hell even the turians admit that asari are the best warriors in the galaxy (and this from secondary codex on the asari military).

The Asari has many good traits that allow them to dominate, but in the end their extremely relaxed attitude to progress (they favour a status quo mostly) is their greatest weakness. A race like humanity will, if not entangled by the diplomatic web of the Asari, surpass them like Europe did the Middle East.

On topic: Yes, but I admit I did not give a lot of thought when I played through ME and ME2. I played the two games for the first time in rapid succession of each other, so I see them as a whole instead of how things may have changed from the assumptions made to ME to the explanation in ME2.

In one-on-one and guerilla combat. You neglect to mention that their intense focus on individual and pair tactics renders them virtually incapable of actually fighting a war.

I think they need to be kicked off their throne. The asari and the other Council races were too blind, stubborn, and stupid to see the Reapers coming. They are obviously not fit to rule the galaxy.

I can't disagree with this.

The Alliance leadership / Human led council is just as blind.

The only thing that I hate abot the asaris is their stigma for purebloods. I would like to know their thoughts about purebloods when they where a pre-spaceflight race,

Superiority complex.and superstition.  Asari believe they gain strength from their species and their father's species and thus making the Asari stronger as a whole, which is a load of BS.  Similar to people who think their religion is superior to someone elses  religion

Asari are still "mary sue space elf fanservice for male gamers" race to me. One that I would have preferred not exist in Mass Effect to begin with.
Individual asari are okay. But the race as a whole? Do not want.

Show me how they're not. I'm pro-human and play 90% renegade, but I call it like I see it. Udina and most of the military / politcal leaders refuse to acknowledge the Reaper threat. There are a few guys like Hackett and Anderson, but they're a politically impotent minority.

After Sovereign was destroyed government salvage teams swarmed on the remains of Sovereign

If you talk to Anderson he'll tell you how the Alliance and the Council have been fighting the Geth agressively.

If you listen to News reports you will hear.how Ilos is being studied.

If you're a pro-human Renegade the Turians and Alliance are in an arms race for a multitude of reasons

Kenson's team was an Alliance cell and they were looking for signs of the Reaper threat.

The Alliance and Council aren't as blind as you think they are more or less trying to confirm the actual threat .  You can't expect them do whatever you say like your the Messiah

Don't especially like the Asari as a species, but eh I suppose their pseudo-peacenik attitude helps balance out the War Hawks.   I would find them more interesting if they weren't space-babes.   A race of ugly (by human standards at least, for instance they could look like a Yahg), asexual, ruthless imperialists who had little interest in aliens other than exploiting them would be much more entertaining.  By the way if my signature seems hypocritical regarding my space-babe comment, it is a Zapp Brannigan quote.

I feel like they're a lot more interesting now, for sure.

They were pretty much the Elven stereotype of Mass Effect, the long lived and wise race that was a bit "too perfect". I like that this image was shown to be something of a facade with a somewhat barbaric/seedy side to them with things like the Justicars, Ardaat-Yakshi and Illium.

I also appreciated how ugly it proved to be when we got to see first hand their obsession with eugenics and the general hatred towards purebloods.

My opinion of them has never been that high, despite that certain Asari (Liara, Rana, Aethyta) are among my favorite characters. For a race with such remarkable characteristics the majority of them do surprisingly little for the progress of the galaxy. If they are half as enterprising and ambitious as Humanity they would be building Mass Relays to other galaxies by now.

Perhaps what they need is a wake up call.

True, if they were like the humans they'd've been very powerful. And alone with that power. We know humans, by their characteristics, don't like to share power, Asari with human ambitions would mean all the other galactic races would have been dominated, enslaved and assimilated by the Asari by the time the humans were discovered.

Why does it matter if they (or any other species) are smarter over all then humans?

On topic for the OP, I dont really feel all that different about them, I like that you see that they arn't a perfect race as I tend to dislike "perfect" game races as you simply cant really have that in reality.

Matriarch Aethyta got me to thinking about this. She wanted the asari get more active in the galaxy and they "laughed the blue off her ass." They seemed quite content to waste time as mercs and strippers instead of focusing on more important things. If the asari were more aggressive with researching technology up to now, the Reapers may not have  stood a chance when they arrived. True, that is pure conjecture and I will do what BioWare allows to save their species, but what is wrong with them? Samara pointed out that the asari have a dirty little secret, a genetic defect they try to keep from the rest of the galaxy. My opinion of their species has dropped since ME1. Am I the only one that feels this way?

Wouldn't have made much of a difference. If the Asari actually were very aggressive in their tech then they would likely be on the Protheans level of tech and we know what the Reapers did to them.

Yeah because the Protheans were capable of going to other Galaxies<_<

The Asari are one of the few reasons why Citadel space isn't as lawless as the Terminus Systems. They are the most advanced and they use their diplomatic abilities to peacefully bring many races onto the Citadel. If it wasn't for them the Council would never have been formed.
