I just finished the trial and went to the Temple of Tyr. I talked with the Illam and got the scene where Khelgar shows up to offer to fight as my champion. The scene ends and Illam tells me he'll return "in the morrow."

After that, the game cuts back into the game engine where I can run around the temple (with Sand nearby, who doesn't divulge anything useful). I can talk to Illam again, which restarts the previous situation (except you don't see Khelgar and you don't hear his dialogue).

Probably takes the cake in "worst scripting bug in an RPG, ever" in my book.

Gotta ask. Fully patched? Using any mods?

Tried out a character save editor to test some influence stuff and to make Shandra more to my liking specializing in longswords (thankfully not too far back from where I am, a little after Act II starts).

I would also check to make sure you still have access to all of your characters in your party. One of the major bugs that happens is the .ros files for companions get borked and then they fail to show up when called. One of the things that is supposed to happen is you get visited by different companions offering help or advice, and if their .ros file is bugged they don't show and the scene is broken. If you can figure out which one, you can go to another save with a good file and copy it into your save game and fix it. The character you copy will be exactly like the one from which you copied the file from...thus if you use a brand new game save they will be level 1-3, and have original starting equipment.

I'll give that a shot. At that point most everyone in my party is (I want to say) level ~14, so I guess I'll go back to an eariler save and work some console magic to give them the matching equipment, stats, and feats.

Okay, that didn't work with my my party members from a save just before the fight with Zhaaire (which was way before I was messing with the save editor). What's the file in the save folder that holds my character's stats?

I see that you're one who doesn't mind customizing his game.

The problem you describe comes up sometimes when using a mod to swap out party members in the Temple, especially if you have user created companions (using SOZ emulation or Universal Companions, for example).  I find a simple way to avoid the issue - send everyone home before entering the Temple (except Shandra, of course).

(Speaking of Shandra - if you've used a mod to remove her from the party at some point, you're on your own.  She's necessary for scripts/conversations in virtually every area the main story sends you for a while, so there's no telling what you might have busted.)

Alright, tried a clean playthrough up to that point (no messing with save editors, not using mods) and still the same problem at the same point.

Next I'll try and install my game on another computer, import my save to that, then try again.

You are fully patched to 1.23?

At the bottom left at the main menu it says "Build 1.023." Worthy of note that I'm playing the Steam Platinum Edition.

did you accept or turn down Khelgar as Champion?

& what's the last line you get out of Hlam (or you speak to Hlam) before the conversation exits and nothing happens? Quote it, pls.

You should have an autosave at the start of this mess, right?

I've tried asking Khelgar to stand in, suggesting that someone else is a better fit, and going it alone. Still nothing.

The last words Hlam speaks to me are to the effect of "Look upon Tyr... We will return for you in the morrow."

And yeah, got an autosave for that.

hmm, at that point (Hlam: "We will return for you on the morrow.") the screen should fade to black and then PC reappears in the back room of the church alone. The next thing that should happen is, either Sand or Qara slip by for a chat, etc. etc.

Do you reappear in the long rectangular back room of the church and face the statue? (Or does the cutscene exit before then?) If so, then my guess is something is screwy when "gc_influence()" tries to determine whether to show Sand or Qara. (Oddly, the game makes one determination to see who gets *ready* to be shown in, then a second to see who actually takes part in the conversation.) Anyway, without sitting at your computer here's my suggestion:

Go chaotic !so to speak! Load from the AutoSave & don't talk to anyone. Ditch all companions (go back to Flagon if you have to - can PC get to Flagon??). Then run the following commands (should work from anywhere):

rs ga_journal("10_khelgar_justice", 20, 1, 0, 0)
rs ga_journal("20_trial", 25, 1, 0, 0)

rs ga_load_mod("2000_Neverwinter", "wp_trialbycombat")

and see what happens. (Should bypass the Rite of Tyr with few to no ill consequences - except Lorne ...)
