Or Anders confront you...
Or Merril saying, but Hawke is a blood mage too when everybody gives her a hard time. But no... no one notice.
This is my biggest pet peeve with both the games actually. I want the specalization to matter more, bioware.

I am guessing a lot of the old specs were going to be included but it was veto'ed late in development so the console users would get a better experience. Things like shapeshifter, the shapes had to remain in the memory the entire game even if you never used it. I imagine Ranger was the same. So out they go.

There are three unused specs in the gamefiles. Animations and soundsets exist for Bard, Archmage, and Juggernaut ability trees. No hint of Shapeshifter or Ranger; and of course Champion got mostly repurposed into the base class Battlemaster tree.

Shapeshifter would have been particularly tricky since there are no meshes in the game to actually use with it. You'd get, what, Mabari form and Spider form and that would be it. :? Though I don't blame them for leaving it out regardless. Nobody's managed to balance it right for DA:O in years of the whole mod community working on it, and that's an order of magnitude more man-hours than the dev team had to spend on DA2.

Oh, and yeah. No excuse for letting us use blood mage if they couldn't be arsed to make the game reflect it. Bad enough no one notices you're an apostate.

If they do have SS in DA3 we'd need new models anyhow along with ranger. Gorilla summon is a requirement but we might make do if we could turn into one. Spider can go, shape and summon. We have more than enough of those in these games if you ask me. Even if you don't ask me...Too much spiders! ugh Image IPB

I'm not saying what is right or wrong. I have had my brain boggled by no one noticing I was a mage period. In such a story like this mage class should have been taken OUT. imho

@FieryDove, Agreed, way too many spiders. Icky.

I never really used Shapeshifter in DAO, but I did use Ranger constantly. I loved the great bear, since it was especially handy for blocking doorways, but I'll admit that I used the poisonous spider on occasion. For some reason, that didn't bother me as much as the constant "jump out of your seat" sound the DA2 spiders made when they dropped out of the ceiling. Perhaps because I had summoned it...

Gorilla summon is an interesting idea. I'd still like a saber tooth tiger, personally.

I'm still wondering why there weren't any wolves or bears in DA2. I would have expected to see them in the wilds at the beginning, or near Sundermount, or even the Bone Pit. And huge crabs by the Wounded Coast. Yeah...

In the start of the when you first make it to Kirkwall the two people your uncle wants you to talk both know your a mage, Fenrirs does, Anders and such. Later on Merriadth does. What bugs me is that Sabation and Culin don't make any comment that you are a mage.

Blood mage Hawke can chastize Merrill for her blood magic.

Problem?

I could have sworn that Cullen makes more than one comment that show he is suspicious Hawke is a mage...?

Fully support this. I am surprised my party did not complain when I am using their lifeforce to fuel my power, constantly.

Very disappointing when the gameplay and the story does not intertwind, especially when blood mages were being portrayed as a big taboo in the lands of Thedas.

Yeah...

I think DA2 really tries to *cut down* on contents so everything would fit on 1 disk. This is why we see the repeated use of that ungodly sod of a cave and areas that were flipped inverted and being used as new areas.  >_<

I think there were some complaints about how the Warden decimated large portions of Ferelden's wildlife in Origins. Plus, they didn't really "fit" within an urban environment.

I saw some mudcrabs by the water recently. I steered clear of them.

They should have ditched the concept of letting the player choose a class and made Hawke a mage. Give her some rogue skills acquired from years of running or whatever, and bring back the Arcane Warrior spec for people who want to play warrior-style.

In theory, choosing to play a mage Hawke should have made DA2 wayyyyyyyy more interesting. But all it really did was add some flavor to certain conversations, because giving the player a "mage Hawke" narrative that was both fully distinctive and fully coherent would have entailed making nearly a whole other game from the rogue or warrior experience.

I know the idea of taking away choice is not popular, but from what I've observed I'd have to say that the more you leave up to the player the harder it is to write a story that doesn't involve some head-scratching. This is why I don't want to criticize the BioWare folk for some of the head-scratchy bits in DA2; they know they're in there and I know they would prefer they not be in there, but to an extent their hands are tied by the choices they've left up to the player.

But hey, what do I know? Ignore my presence and go about your earthly business.

Yeah, what Aradace said. I would have been pretty torqued if I had to bring a rogue along every stinking place I went, in every single playthrough. Although...bringing Varric and/or Isabela along isn't such a bad thing.

But I still want to be able to pick locks.

Maker, my apologies.

Personally, I think every class should be able to learn to pick locks. It's silly to limit it to one class, imho.

I wish I liked Arcane Warrior more. I must be a total twit, as most of the time, any mage I taught the skill to would mostly just shake their staff at me when I tried to cast spells. Waa. Image IPB

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, if I wanted an Elder Scrolls style "class system" I'd play Elder Scrolls.  (Which I will be as soon as I get my hands on my pre-order copy of Skyrim ).  However, I do agree that mages should at least be able to open locks.  Perhaps not disarm traps (or only disarm magical traps) but definately open locks.

Exactly, and you bring up an interesting point. Maybe there should be more than one type of lock (mechanical, magical), and the same for traps? Hmm...

i'll be right there with you on 11/11/11. Image IPB What did we do before we could pre-order? I can't even imagine it.

I had to call everyone Hobos to further enforce my point.
