So I just noticed there on the Vault, sifting through the bucket loads of spam in the comments section, that a player had posted a request for help about a couple of the areas in the SoZ Holiday Expansion Project on September 5.
http://nwvault.ign.c...h.Detail&id=406
1. The Inn of Hidden Tales
2. The Halfling Village
Now I know it's been discouraging keeping up with that page on the Vault because of all the spam in the comments section, so here is what I was thinking. If one of the builders happen to see a relevant post about the module, perhaps they could mention it in this thread. Then the author of the area in question can respond to the player if possible.
For example, Back in August, I had missed a comment and question reagrding the submission I made, by two weeks. If I had seen the comment earlier, I would have responded right away.
In addtion, this SoZ community project is understandably complex, and some players might need help in just getting it set up. So if anybody happens to pass by the Vault page and see a player's distress signal, they could post a shout-out in this thread.
Just some thoughts from the Mountain.
Harumph!

Yes, something needs to be done about all that spamage to the vault. It's ruining a good thing.

What a ridiculous idea.

Yeah it's quite difficult. I replied to one issue, but I think the question and answer were both drowned seperately in the spam. Kinda annoying.

By which you mean, of course, "Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that..."

A request for help on the Gnome Hideout was left on September 22. Something about a door puzzle.

The door puzzle should be fine, but I think a way to bypass it was asked after given it can get annoying after a bit. There was an issue though with some local variable screwup on my part which I subsequently fixed, but the version on the Vault still has - and the "hotfix" I made apparently didn't work properly (I think maybe one of the files was not overwriting). It's been so long ago that I honestly can't remember what was going on with it, though.

OT: this is one of my favourite modules. Hope there are more additions.

The community is currently collaborating on an entirely new campaign unrelated to SoZ, not just more additions. :happy:Ruminating PygmyGnome wrote...

I wouldn't say that the community project has stopped. PJ and I have already finished our piece and I believe others are working on theirs. As far as I can tell, the only problem right now is 2das. Sure, custom content is nice, but not having it certainly is not a show-stopper. There are some very successful modules that used virtually no custom content at all.

are you also doing the OM and everything that was making it a game vs a bunch of segregate little works? If you want to , please do

The OM and encounter maps were done months ago.

A fair amount of work has already gone into the community mod. It is a good idea and with so many talented modders working on it, it would be a shame to give up on it. I don't think it will be done quickly, but I think most of us are used to waiting 1 year or more to release a project. CW is quiet now, but I think we've all gone through times where real life stuff gets in the way of our hobbies. I think we should just stay cool, do what we can with what we have and keep plunking away at the project.
I also would like to say that I think frustration with .2da issues and such is normal and to be expected. Making these thins is painful as we all know.
...of course, we are massively derailing things for this thread, so I won't speak of the community project in this thread any more.

For pretty much everyone I know, this is a hobby. Yeah we should all stop dragging our feet and get things sorted, but at the end of the day it's really not in the spirit of things for this to become unfun for anyone. Obviously if people are actually bored with it they should say so and get out, so that the others know where they stand. However, there's no real deadline.
If the OM and stuff are already done, it's just a case of gathering together what projects have been done. Some people have already finished some of them, and the reason a lot aren't done is because a few authors are working on multiple things and haven't moved onto the second or third yet. Incidentally, I am still checking the Citadel site from time to time, but no-one is talking to me.

I didn't say the OM is done (encounters and all). But the maps are.
