I found a text on Sorceror's Place named BG2Tactics, which mentions Daystar as a means to kill Liches and to get it first, the tactics guide suggest stealing it from under his nose and RUN.
But in my current install, both the methods of killing him by hitting hard and fast with Lilacor and Mace of Disruption +1 and just sending in my thief, steal it and run won't work, as the first kill results in the Lich reviving and if I want to make my exit after the kill before his revival the doorway says 'there's an invisible barrier of force preventing you from using the doorway' and the same message pops up after entering, taking the sword and trying to run away before combat: the door is barred. That didn't happen with my Blade: he killed the Lich, no revival and the door was open.
My question: what causes the door to lock shut behind you and forcing you to win the battle or die trying?
