I can install the game from disc okay, though it lingers for a very long time on the 99 percent mark before it completes.  And character creation goes without a hitch.  But when I start playing, I start to have some very strange issues.  Things and people are not named what they are supposed to be, but appear to have their filenames (with extensions) instead.  When I enter into major dialogue, the box will open, but be bigger than usual, and often the choices will not even be visible.  Very often text boxes will be filled with strange and repeating combinations of the letters "o" "th" "eo" and "t."  I don't have any idea what the issue is, and any illumination would be greatly appreciated!

hmmm. Delete the game data. Make sure your disc is your region. Check your PS3 language settings. Stuff like that.

Then reinstall. Actually, check the disc for damage or scratches. Clean it too.

I am also having an issue installing the game data, only I never get into the game. The installation runs fine until it gets to 98% stops for a while, then jumps to 100% and freezes. I can still push the PS button and bring up the XMB but when I go back the screen is black with a faded clock in the upper right corner. I gave the disk to my friend who has a newer slim model ps3 while I have a older 80GB model and he was able to install the data no problem. So I don't think the disk is the problem. I did try to restore files on the ps3 but that changed nothing. What is the problem?

Contact real tech support. Look at the sticky for how. Make sure you tell them what disc it is, ie: Origins vs Ultimate Edition. Also stuff like how long you wait till you hit that PS button. It may freeze because it's processing stuff. Older PS3s have less ram. I don't know. That's kind of just throwing something out there, but there is a snowballs chance in hell that that may be a factor. *shrugs*

I'd clean the disk though and try again. First, delete what game data is there. Restart your PS3. Try again.
