So it seems. In fact, if I were to play devil's advocate, I'd say that the "evidence" present actually suggests human noble wouldn't be canon. 5 out of 6 origins say the dog is at Ostagar. The human noble forces the dog to be at highever and is thusly the odd man out and the most inconsistent. :wizard:
The whole thing is silly. Just play the game and enjoy what you play. There is no need for canon. :pinched:

Actually even not that big of a breach.  The trainer tells you that the noble the dog belonged to had died recently.  The variance between stories could just simply be the sibling actually went to fight with the king instead of stayed home to get slaughtered.  But ya, it is quite silly :).

didn't realise they'd released anything saying how long the dragon age will last or that other parts of the world were off-limits, my bad.

It's stated in the Codex that every age in Thedas lasts for one hundred years. In the ninety-ninth year of a particular age, the Chantry decides on some sort of portent or major event to determine the name of the next age. The last age was the Blessed Age, and the Dragon Age was originally going to be called the Sun Age, because of the Orlesian Empire's ascendance (the sun being the symbol of Orlais). However, this changed when Ferelden won its freedom and a High Dragon was spotted for the first time in apparently a long time, and so the Sun Age became the Dragon Age.

The Dragon Age is the ninth age since the founding of the Chantry. The game takes place in 9:30 Dragon. The calendar doesn't entirely make sense to me. 9:30 means the thirtieth year of the ninth age (the Dragon Age), but that seems a little redudant. I think it would have made more sense if the first number were the month, and the second number the year, followed by the name of the age.

ahh excellent nice catch, if the title dragon age does give the plot a time limit i also wonder at the origins part of the title too, if this is a prequel to a greater story it does seem to imply that this part is the origin of the hero, like a superheroes genesis, but that thinking creates all sorts of questions about the ultimate sacrifce.. oh dear.. i hope i'm wrong..

or even the origin of the god-child...

There is an advertisement Shepard who is a Dutch supermodel, but not a canon.

Right. There's just the Shepard that appears in all the advertizing, screenshots, trailers, and the upcoming comic book. The Shepard that the developers have said is their vision of the character.

There's too fine a line between canon and 'default endorsed by the developers that is the only PC recognized in promotional and auxiliary materials.'

Last I knew there was no Shepard in the upcoming comic books.

^Which is to say that they've gone to considerable lengths to keep Sheploo out of the novels and "EU" materials, which would be silly if they had established a canon.

The default Shepherd is for advertising purposes to have a consistent image for the game. The players create the canon as they play which I think is the best way to handle it.

Morrigan is sequel material. Ditto for the kid.

Imagine some brat with the soul of an old god venturing into the Fade? Who knows what he'd do.

What happens if the next game is based off Morrigan and the "god child"?

Well, I know that if you play a male PC who doesn't romance Morrigan or a female PC that doesn't romance Alistiar, Morrigan and Alistiar are lovers before the Landsmeet.

I'm putting my money on there being no official canon aside from "An archdemon was defeated by a Grey Warden and the combined armies of Fereldan" and having the next game take place sometime in the future during the next blight.

How I think the "canonical" version of DA:O will go:

The archdemon was killed by a Grey Warden. This Grey Warden is quickly forgotten by the populace. End of canon.

In all seriousness, they can completely avoid the entire question of what path is "canon" by not being in Ferelden in the next game. Nobody in Orlais cares who the Grey Warden was who ended that blight. It didn't affect their shoes with ribbons and gemstones.

Well, it did because Orlais would be next after the Blight finished up in Ferelden. They would keep marching until the entire world was destroyed or until they were stopped.

In one of the tips on a loading screen it stated that each age is ended with an omen. A dragon was spotted at the begining of the dragon age. And, according to the Chantry Calender, each age is 100 years.

But, I still say, if they decide to do any continuation of the story, they will have to pick a canon ending or they'll have to make the story extremely ambiguous. Almost too much so.

Other than the Orleasian Grey wardens, that is. But yeah, they could do that. I hadn't thought of that. I just assumed they'd do a continuation. When they could go beyond the small corner of the world that is Fereldan and just move on to Orlais or Tevinter or Por Vallon or any of those. Good thinking.

I don't know I have trouble imaging they'll just let the Morrigan thing go. They may leave it ambiguous and just say a Grey Warden was the father.

Maybe I'm being unrealistic, but I hope Bioware never, EVER makes a "canon story" for this game. The charm of DA is that there are limitless options for the player. Not having a "canon story" is a nice way to honor that.

Baldurs Gate had a canon.

Baldur's Gate was set in the Forgotten Realms - a pre-defined world, rule-set and intellectual property (IP) owned by a third party (not sure who owns it now) therefore Bioware would have had to have honoured certain rules and histories aka "canon" just as they had to do so with KOTOR.

I'm in full agreement with you, Riona. Although I certainly enjoyed the games set in the much larger and well thought out world of the Forgotten Realms, it is absolutely refreshing to be able to play a game with no such restrictions.

Exactly.  And by the way, the FR setting is still owned by Wizards of the Coast.

I agree, Morrigan's Old God child is the only canon from DA:O. They might have options so that Morrigan talks about the father in a different way based on some player choice, but she is the vessel of the story that will be carried forward to the sequel.

Since the ending video-text implies that Morrigan was last seen in Orlais as a confidante to the Empress (the one ending I've seen after refusing to yield to her request to father a god-child), it's quite likely that the sequel will be based in Orlais. Maybe they will also bring Leliana into the sequel somehow then, seeing as she was from Orlais.

Edit: And the canon would likely be that the Grey Warden died defeating the Archdemon; who cares who he was? And Alistair would have been seduced by Morrigan before the fight but he wouldn't have landed the killing blow - so he will always be haunted by that god-child that he fathered. News from Orlais would confirm his fears about a destructive god-mage-shapeshifting-darkspawn and he enlists the PC to hunt it down. Needn't even be Grey Warden related...maybe the PC in the next title will be from one of the bard/spy/assassin associations in Orlais.

I think 'nobody cares but the grey wardens' would be a perfect continuation of the theme of the grey wardens themself- If the story is in Orlais, none of the other Orlesians care that Ferelden saved the world from a blight, but if you ask a grey warden, they'll tell you.

They might not go into much detail, but they'd bear witness, and probably be rather cynical and world-weary about how much their fellow orlesians neglect the issue. Most Orleseians probably think it was just a story Fereldan invented as propaganda.

That said, I do think they could bring the canon forward. There are probably dwarves in Orlais. If you ask them about the state of Orzamar, what would they say? Well, maybe they could summarise the state as defined by your play-through of dragon age. It'd only be a few lines of dialogue. Stuff like that, would not be that hard to do.

I find both improbable, since both can end up dead. If Bioware truly wanted to make this into a direct sequel, they really shot themselves in the foot with all these possible endings.

That is unless they planned to completely undermine the point of this game's choice and establisha  full-blown canon.

Human, male Noble Warrior

Rather mage. Look at the tower of Ishal, where in all non-mage games some mage companion appears out of nowhere, rather than the two regular guards you would expect.
Also female. Look at the "conception scene" with Morrigan shies away from here. That fits much more to Alister than the PC, does it not?

Romance with Lelianna

Possibly - or with Alister. Both are about equally engaing I would think.

Puts Allistar on throne

I say: Puts Alister+Anora on the throne. makes the most sense, succession wise.

Of course this isn't really serious. More to show how subjective these things are.

Naaa, Mage (I havent played that one yet) Im told cant be human noble and the whole Howe storyline is important to the story. Im playing a dwarf this play through right now and let me say, the lack of Howe leaves a huge gapping whole in the flow of the story!

As for gay romances, im not going to argue with people and their agendas. Suffice to say, none of the popular, successful, long lasting Fantasy Ive read over last 43 years have ****** sexual main characters and this would be no different if there was a actual cannon version.

Again, thats all Im going to say as not going to argue bias agendas and what not. OP asked what would be cannon and im answering based on logic and whats come before hand (and been successful).

Yup, Allistar has to be on throne, it fits the best!

I guess it could be a human Noble Rogue but Warriors are so much more traditional and awe inspireing as lead heros then rogue characters are. Plus you have strong rogue characters in Lelianna and Zevran. To many Rogues spoile the stew Posted Image heh

Lastly, I should point out im not argueing on what I like best (I like the dwarf start up the most truth be told) Im argueing what makes the most sence and best flowing storyline. Unlike some Elf supporter, personal preference isnt always the best option. When dealing with cannon, you need to seperate yourself and your agendas from the topic and pick what makes the most sence and will meet with the most acceptance.

Thats how I see it anyways, KotOR2 eventually went with the agenda rather then story and it ruined the whole tale, truth be told. Cannon should be acceptable to a majority yet most folks (online and off) I speak to that played KotOR2 flat out refuse to accept Lucas Arts agenda driven cannon version of the game as it simply doesnt make the most sence story wise.

Fustrates me when I see people trying to push their narrow minded agendas in topics like this! For crying out loud, do whats best for the story, not your beleif system or what is the obvious choice of bucking the system. That junk attitude never helps anyone or anything.

Didn't even consider the question of canon or care. But now that I know a bunch of nerds would get butthurt over canon being established (and of course canon would most likely reflect mainstream WASP culture), thus marginalizing whatever "quirky" but super cool characters they rp and thus relate to.... I'm on board with rooting for an official canon.

Go canon!
