Just kind of curious really. I was wondering if anyone here pretty much ever feels like playing through Throne of Bhaal only after months/years of not even playing Baldurs Gate 2. I usually hear of people playing through SOA first before TOB, but I just want to know if there is anyone that has started a Throne of Bhaal game from scratch?
Thanks and take care.
Have you ever started a fresh TOB game without playing through SOA?

I rather do the opposite. ToB doesn't reach the quality of BG2 (or BG1), so often I lose interest at some point during this huge battle.

I agree with HT. I have finished SoA only to quit somewhere in ToB more times than I can count. I could never bring myself to skip straight to ToB.

I've started afresh in TOB a few times but not for several years. From memory it's a bit more challenging as some of the best items aren't available and your character hasn't had improved stats etc. The last time was solo insane Ascension a couple of years back; while difficult and requiring numerous reloads I only gave up on the final battle.
I agree about SOA being more enjoyable than TOB, but then I prefer BG1 to SOA and now only run into SOA if I complete BG1.

ToB is an afterthought, very linear. Also the Five are not developed much, unlike JI in BG2.

Well, ToB was originally supposed to be a standalone game (BG3), but then for some reason they turned it into a simple add-on...
I guess that's also why they didn't think they'd have to deal with the druid problem if they messed with their levels a bit (and since they didn't really deal with it, they were actually right).

Stand alone game to mere expansion, sounds like something happened at Black Isle.
I thought they were twisting the pen and paper rules for Druid levels to give them more levels

By giving them less levels? They were trying to avoid druid level 15, at which point druids (actually the druid, since there can be only one) get(s) a whole bunch of cool new abilities none of which are implemented in BG2 ToB.

Wasn't Baldur's Gate 3 supposed to be called The Black Hound? Or was that an afterthought from Throne of Bhaal?
The one screenshot from that makes me weep. I guess some things just weren't meant to be.
Coming back to the question, yes, I have started a new game before without SoA. But that was back in the day when I was young and found BG2 too difficult to complete. I don't think I ever completed ToB with the new characters though, again I probably found it too difficult.
Is there anywhere online where you can download people's BG1 final saves? So when you start SoA you import a character that has actually completed the previous game .... sort of like in Mass Effect where you choose your characters background and history. Might give a different experience to starting SoA fresh?

Watch what mods are installed on the uploading person's computer, and not installed on yours.
If BG2 followed the usual high level Druid advancement of 500,000XP per new level, Druids would be level 25 at 8,000,000 XP, well behind other classes with the same XP.

@jaxsbudgie: Differently from with ME2, there isn't all that much that carries over from BG1. It's a) your main character and
a very limited set of items which you can then find in the starting dungeon of BG2 and thus it is relatively easy to emulate the effects of playing through BG1 by first creating a new character and adding everything else via Shadowkeeper (attribute bonuses, items, XP). Therefore there is no need for such a data base (and now, with ME2 save game editors out, you probably don't need a save game collection for ME2 either).
@Ishad Nha:
We're speaking of different things. I'm referring to SoA (unless stated otherwise), while you are talking of ToB.

10 125,000 9+2
11 200,000 9+4
12 300,000 9+6
13 750,000 9+8
14 1,500,000 9+10
That is the pen and paper advancement table for Druids, I have the PHB here in front of me. Remember the Druidic heierarchy.

Yes, level 15 requires 3,000,000 xp which is above the official xp cap of 2,950,000 xp.
