1) Naughty Dog (Uncharted series on the PS3)
My favourite series by Naughty Dog though is Jak and Daxter, specifically Jak 2: Renagade. Don't let the art syle fool you, it is not a kids game. That series is one of the greatest of all time. I think its better than Uncharted because it has better gameplay, like actual platforming (U2 is like a cinematic movie on rails), better levels and missions, and better story and characters. The games have really great story and characters. I strongly recommend anyone to buy the Jak and Daxter series.

As for Obsidian.......If you can make a game, they can make a much better version of it, but they seem to have almost no initiative of their own. Alpha Protocol was fun, but seriously flawed. All in all there is something almost parasitic about Obsidian. Their games are always good.....but is improving on someone else's work much of an accomplishment? They still get my number two spot though.
To be fair BioWare was kind of a parasite on Black Isle back in the BG days...
though to be even MORE fair I'd say "symbiote" may be a more accurate descriptive.
That's interesting that you say this, since Bioware licensed its BG engine (Infinity) for BIS and Interplay to use in making Planescape:Torment and IWD. PS:T maybe Avellone's best writing piece ever in a game.
On your previous to this post, I somewhat disagree with you on BG; it was the better game than BG2, IMO. I liked the story and the pacing of the game better. BG2 was great though as I enjoyed it, but BG2 didn't get the replays that I gave BG. BG is still my all-time favorite Bioware game.

Square Enix is so bad they can't even get a good game out without a Western developer's support. Just look at Deus Ex Human Revolution. The Square/Enix watermark is practically a mockery of such a great game.

I am almost solely an RPG enthusiast, though I play other genres, so I really don't care for much of what other devs create, which are action/shooter type games. Most of the best RPG makers I loved are now defunct
Of the ones still existing:
- Bioware
- Bethesda (though I don't think they really make true RPGs)
- Obsidian (they can be the messiest of developers)
Of those that are defunct:
- Black Isle Studios (now Obsidian, but IMO, Obsidian isn't close to the quality in writing that BIS had long ago)
- Troika, which was created by the three original lead designers for BIS/Interplay for Fallout, left to start this gaming company during the initial stages of Fallout 2).
- Origin Systems, who can forget what EA did to this franchise who did the Ultima series; they were awesome.

ArenaNet (I seriously can't wait for Guild Wars 2~)
Larian (I really like the Divinity games... and Dragon Commander looks promising, as long as you can play as a female.)
Bethesda (For the Elder Scrolls games. Skyrim!)

I Don't Really have much of a "Best Developers list", so here are the ones i really love and why:
BioWare (You Already know)
Origin Systems (Ultima Series, Developed the Main Series and Published them all along with the Spin Offs, like Underworld or Online)
Black Isle (of couse, how couldn't be here?, Anyway, Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale)
Interplay (Fallout Series, including an MMO which i won't be playing because it's an MMO with Subscription Fee, and The Bard's Tale)
CD Projekt RED (You Already know)
FTL Games (Creators of the Dungeon Masters, Such an Underrated Series, and RIP)
New World Computer (Might and Magic Series, and no, Heroes of Might and Magic and Dark Messiah are Spin offs.
RIP now)
Blizzard (StarCraft, Diablo, Warcraft, and no, i haven't played WOW cause i don't pay money for that crap, if i wanted to waste my money so desperately i'd throw it off a bridge)
Firaxis(Civilization Series, though didn't created it, that was Micro-Pose, Sid Meier's Pirates and Alpha Centauri)
Looking Glass (Thief Series, after a bunch of Simulators no-one cared about, and System Shock)
ArenaNET (Anyone who makes an MMO free, deserves to be here)
Creative Assembly (Total War Series)
Ensemble Studios (Age of Empires, My Favorite Strategy Series..... RIP:crying:)
RockStar (GTA and Red Dead Redemption)
ID Software (Fathers of FPSs, Need i say more?)
Honorable Mentions:
Bethesda (They WOULD have been up there, i love Most of the TES series, but their Recent games and Atitude.... has been really putting me off)
LucasArts (They Made Grim Fandango and Monkey Island.... but then they made all those ****ty star wars games)
Ion Storm (REALLY shaky story, They Made Daikatana, one of the worst FPSs of the last Decade, but then They Made Deus Ex, one of the best Games of the Last Decade..... like i said, REALLY shaky)
CryTek (They Made Far Cry and Crysis, but i need more, besides they turned Crysis into another COD)

You think BG1 was a bad game? My mind is officially blown.
Yeah, his opinions couldn't differ any more than my own either. I loved BG 1 when it was released and still play it occaisionally.

I will ignore disbanded studios lest this become a long list.
Obsidian Entertainment
Why? Their writing staff continues to produce stories I enjoy. They are one of a very short list of developers outside the indie scene creating RPGs with an old school touch. That includes their hybridized titles such as Alpha Protocol. In short, Obsidian has been my new BioWare for years. They are by no means perfect, but perfection is unimportant to me. What matters is getting to play the kinds of games I want, and they tend to deliver.

- Bioware: my party-based RPG fix. Maybe not the greatest storytellers out there, but they can certainly create interesting universes and characters. They have never disappointed me... ok, maybe a little with NWN
- Obsidian: great stories and some memorable characters (Kreia!!), I always find something to enjoy in their games.
- Remedy: I loved Max Payne (especially the first one) and Alan Wake was amazing
I'll probably buy their games on day 1:
- Bethesda: I don't find their games particularly great overall (except Morrowind), but I always enjoy the exploration in their games; sometimes I need only that
- CD Projekt RED: I enjoyed both of their games and I'll buy their next game for sure, but I hope to see them develop some new IP in the future.
- Eidos Montreal: Deus Ex Human Revolution convinced me
I wish they were still alive:
- LucasArts of the adventure games era: not much to explain, they're probably THE reason I'm playing videogames today.
- Mythic Entertainment: no, Bioware Mythic (previously EA-Mythic) isn't the same thing. Mythic Entertainment created DAoC (aka the best PVP game out there since 2001) while EA-Mythic created WAR...
- Troika / Origin Systems / Black Isle: not much to explain either, they made great games.
