I just finished the game, however I had to do so on the absolute lowest graphics in order to play through it smoothly.  I have read post about there being a possible memory leak or something gameside that causes this, I can run games like Bioshock and Oblivion on full graphics without a hitch so I am fairly certain it can't be an issue on my side.

Before I began another playthrough I'd like to do so on maxmum graphics, and so any news?

I get the massive load times after a while of playing, it seems to be related to area transitions; the more you make, the longer your load times get. Restarting the game fixes it for me though.

I have a high end PC and the game runs great but after a few hours i get the same problem. Area transitions and Tabbing to highlight items causes it for me

Well loadtimes are an issue, but yeh restarting is a quick fix.  I'm talking more along the lines of actual graphics, unless I turn all special effects off and everything to low the game skips cause of horrid FPS.

However looking at the graphics card list apparently mine is worse than I thought, GeForce 8500 GT, I ran bioshock on near max settings without issue and I dont think Im wrong in saying that it had similar graphics tug but hell looks like I need a new video card :pinched:

The short-term solution is to just restart the game. BioWare is aware of the problem and they're working on a more permanent solution for a future patch.

The memory leaks shouldn't cause you to play on low settings, though. That's a separate problem entirely, and I've not heard of anyone else with that problem before.

I read a couple other thread where people were having FPS issues with the 8500. It's not related to the 'memory leak' issue.

LOL lies! That's what I'm using till I get my new card. 8500 GT is horrid for games it's only a subsitute for me. This card can really only run games like WoW near max with no shadows  or maybe something like Kotor at max settings.

I also have the mem leak prob after area transitions. It gets to the point after about 30 min to an hour that it is faster to exit and restart than wait for the loading of one zone.

If there is any news or fixes, it'd be on the Tech support forum.

One can easily be fooled by nVidias naming of the 6-7-8-9- series 'chips'. The 8600 is about twice as fast as the 8500, and the 8800 is like 3 times faster than the 8600. (As we all know the 9-series have the same performance.. only difference is that they use a Watt or 3 less than the 8-series.)

Also, the 8500GT is pretty much equal to the 6600GT perf-wise, so you really are at the bottom of the scale on this one, since the 6600 is the minimum requirement for DA:O if i remember correctly.

*EDIT* Got a bit off-topic there.. sorry.. I'm also suffering the memory leak-thingie.

I just started experiencing this memory leak too, load times are worse than the witcher pre-patch. It's gotten to a point where I start to lose interest because it takes so long to go from area to the next.

It first occured in Orzammar and the problem has been around since.

Sometimes it helps to save, return to the main menu and load again from there. Saves a few seconds of restarting the whole game. But sooner or later, that's what you have to do. Don't forget that it could be worse, with worse programming loading times could be always that long.

You're probably the 5th person I've seen say that exact same thing. For me it was Orz as well. Before that, the game ran fine.

I also need to restart my game every half hour or so to avoid huge load times. I can't say for sure that it started with Orzammar, but it almost seemed to get worse with the more blight spreading across the map.

Hope they fix this soon, it is very irritating.

Yup, problems started for me in Orz too.

I told one of the bioware guys in a PM that i think Orz/Deep Roads is causing issues. That's where my Warden's Keep and Shale also went poof. As SOON as I entered Deep Roads it began.

In my case, Orzammer is a large problem, but the Wolf Lair in the Brecilain forest was also horrible. All in all, I think avoiding those areas in favor of Redcliffe, Denerim, and the Mage's Circle would make sense.

Finished the game. And are waiting for a patch before i start a new one.
Saw 100000+ Bugs. And are very disappointed over the Technical Support.
Please release a patch already. How long does it take ? Any news at all for us ? Pfff...
Yes i know there is 1.01b but we want one that fixes the game/bugs. And not just makes it easyer. Was already way to easy. Even on hard!! Comeon..

Turning off "Persistent Gore" has kept the load times below one minute for me.

I read that the game remembers the Gore and "stores" it. But it never clears out the gore until the game is restarted. That's why (particularly in high battle areas) the speed slows down so much.

It may not be the only thing that is causing the memory leak - but it seems to be a big part.

Playing the game for hours, I've never seen memory spike. I've never had performance issues, nor long load times.

I suspect that video card drivers are causing a memory leak for a certain subset of players. When you start running out of memory, it causes your system to pagefile, which would in turn also cause long load times.

IT's not an obvious memory leak. as if you go back to the task manager the game doesn't take up more than just over 1GB of memory which is normal for the game i play and given i have a 756MB video card and lots of system ram and it certainly doesn't expotentially grow in ram use or CPU use as time goes by, but certainly the longer you play without exiting and relogging in the longer the load times get.

Other than that they game had been flawless til i reached Landsmeet now it CTD often usually on loading screens. and the last few nights was getting the you have to be logged in to use the DLC error, when obviously you are everytime you load the game

Other than a higher end system my lowest point is a 8800Ultra 756mb GPU

I've upgraded to 4Gb RAM, so naturally it runs better.. but a strange thing is that the game actually performs better when i dedicate a single core to the game. Running with both cores @ 3.1GHz i experience some stuttering in the cutscenes and also minor freezeups ingame..
