Yeah, a country full of Stens; the literalism would be maddening.
I love me some Sten, though. Possibly my favorite companion, and Par Vollen is definitely high on my list of locales I'd like to see. That and my own tomb in Weisshaupt.

*Sten reads this topic*
-10 approval.
No but seriously, I didn't care for him at first, but he's really badass once you get his approval up, I really started liking him when you finally finish his sidequest.

Sten = <3
I always get hopelessly attached to him whenever I play the game. He's just so grumpy, yet at the same time he's just a big ol'e softie at heart.

Sten is a grumpy Elcor and I really like him for it. It seemed like all the dialogue choices with him that gave positive responses were the ones that didn't further any unnecessary conversation or questions, which is a bit annoying but very much suits his personality

Sten is great
He's very serious, very stern, and at the same time he's one of the most humorous character in the game.
He's some big consistency problems (he's all about learning and the like, and at the same time is easily offended by questions), but they can be handwaved by cultural differences, so they are not as grating as Morrigan's.
Due to his unexplained philosophy that gives him at least the appearance of depth, he feels like the most interesting character so far.

I thought the only rewarding part of his entire character was at the epilogue, when he apparently returned to his homeland and when asked if he met any honourable people, he said he met only one. I really liked that bit.

Though, I regret the fact he killed his saviors just because his sword dispeared... Though he seems to share some commun points with Shale.

I like Sten - the weakness for cookies & baked goods being highly amusing (he certainly like that cake that my dog retrieved) in contrast with the whole stoic warrior thing. Plus, he's secretly a softie according to Leilana's party banter from what I hear. I like that he's just very direct & brusque. Admittedly, some of those conversations can drive you insane though like the female Grey Warden one. LOL

Just beat the game on nightmare and Sten and my character were on very good terms given that I found his sword. I got to say I think I like his character best of those characters you can't romance. I hope DA2 delves more deeply into his race and culture.

He's my favourite character. Very literal, very direct... I hope for a DLC with Qunari Origin story....

Sten can take a while to equip properly, im playing a 2 handed warrior so i havent found much use for him yet. He called my dog a "true warrior, worthy of respect" thats instant brotherhood points right there for Sten.

I definately appreciate the delightful cookie banter I've had with him.

He's the best MALE character by far. You must get his sword on the personal quest to really bond and make him do major damage. I love how he calls you kataan, or whatever. Had high hopes for Shale until he opened his mouth. I wanted a tough bad ass golem, not a gay hair dresser voice with the soul of a female dwarf (do the personal quest for Shale). Allistar and Zevran's aren't tough acting either, so Sten is the only male tough buddy type in the game. I wish Duncan would have lived and was a party member, he's such a cool character.
During my first fight with Branka in the Void, I got my ass kicked like 3-4 times, but when I finally beat her, it was Sten who finished her, as me and him were the only ones left. He finished her off with the slow-mo double slice finisher. It was Awesome!

I love Sten. He's about my favorite, after Alistair.
At first, I didn't love him. I thought he was boring, despite the fact that my approval with him kept climbing, despite my bluntness with him. Once we had some communication going, though, things started looking up, and he became a regular fixture in my party.

The Beresaad have a particular bond with their sword. It's crafted only for them, and no others. If they lose the sword, they also lose their honor, and they can't return to the Arishok to report.

I like Sten. In my first play through i barely talked to him (i was a goody goody so showing mercy etc lost me points) my second play through was a more neutral character and i liked hi more. My third character is a 'anything that can get the job done' guy and ive got high approval with him. I wish you could ask about the way of the Qun though.

It's kadan. I turned on my subtitles just in case I have to turn the sound down, heh, so I saw the actual spelling.

I liked him too and he was always last man standing in my wipes, but I disliked how little interaction and background he had.

I feel bad for admitting that, but he actually beat Oghren for me. Might be because i was never able to max Oghrens approval (due to killing Branka?), which made for what i felt drastically few dialogues.
Sten, however, is the kind of person that really grows on you over time. Not the "yeah buddy"-type like Alistair, whom you either love or hate instantly, but a very stoic & harsh, yet deep & extremely fascinating personality - once you get the chance to actually explore it.
He went well with the personality of my first dwarf and made a kind of bond with Shale, too. It was an interesting party, all of us being indifferent regarding Humans, at least.
Oh, AND he killstealed both Dragons >

I really like Sten a lot. I didn't use him much in my Human Noble playthrough (there wasn't any room with my warrior, his best friend/surrogate brother Alistair, his love Leliana, and their healer Wynne), but I've made it a point to include him ASAP in my current playthrough, in which my Warden is more pragmatic and less idealistic (though not necessarily evil). I just now got the Sword of the Beresaad quest, looking forward to completing it again and seeing how Sten develops from there through the rest of the game.

Almost forgot - you actually should take him to the Circle Tower when clearing the place of abominations. You get some interesting dialogue AND approval for your responses if you do it right (me, I was saving the mages as usual - soft spot for them with my favorite characters being mages & all). Wrong answers bring major disapproval, so save before you ask him about his thoughtst.
Of course, he's not fond of mages it should be pointed out, and I think there's one bit where he disapproves no matter what (however, I think you net more approval overall than you lose, so eh, it seems worthwhile).

Yeah, I had Sten with me on the playthrough where I decided to cleanse the Circle, and he approved of my decision all the way. Makes sense, since apparently the qunari treat their magi pretty brutally.

On all my characters I've always found him annoying and he has been left to camp till the final battle. Maybe I should look more into him, but I prefer to have more social people in my party.

He never becomes more social. That's part of his charm - he has a mind of his own, and he won't change it because you're the PC.Melrache wrote...

But he opens up a bit, and you can imagine there is actually something about WHY he's so (funningly) infuriating. There is some contradiction in here, but as I said, they can be handwaved as "cultural" so they aren't too annoying.
He's interesting because he has a very alien point of view about things, and isn't instantly conquered by a preachy PC.
