I read somewhere that there should be two tomes available in the Black Emporium, a skill book and a stat book. This is in addition to the "Elixirs" that are for sale...

I did not *find* them when I went there though... is this information correct?

Also, I heard that there are two "Tomes of Technique" in the game, but the second, bought at Sundermount, is glitched on PS3 if you have Legacy installed and does not appear for sale...

Is this correct?

I would be annoyed stuck with only one tome in this game, but I guess an expansion is better than a tome...

With regard to your first question, the tomes are actually elixirs in the Emporium - Elixir of Arcane Technique and Elixir of Physical Technique. They can be found in the "Crafting Materials" section of the Emporium. The wiki shows them as available in Act 1, but I don't recall if that is restrictive to the other acts.

I should be more clear... I meant I read it had books *as well* as those two elixirs.

Have you ever seen them there?

I don't recall seeing "tomes" in the Emporium specifically, no. There are some tomes in the game - this may or may not list them all.

Now, this wiki page lists tomes in the Emporium, but I think they are supposed to be elixirs, or rather, are titled elixirs.

Random? You mean you *may* get a tome between acts or not?

Yep. Same with lyrium, embrium, orichalcum, ect.

uhh.. no they're not.
The black emporium only has two skill elixirs (for mages and warriors/rogues) and one for attributes. The elixirs may change into tomes if you do not purchase them in act 1. (Otherwise it was the official guide just messing up. I can't really remember).

In any case you can only ever get the equivalent of 1 skill point and 3 attribute points. There is no real difference between buying them in later acts.

It is not random. Resources aren't random either. Unless you mean something else by random...


I'm not sure about that ps3 thing; i haven't really heard anything about it

Nope. I pretty sure they're random unless it got patched over. (PC) I bought the elixirs in Act 1. Act III I got lucky and got a "diamond shaped" tome. It's been months since I've played the PC version. I switched platforms and I haven't gotten lucky in the Xbox version yet.

You get whatever crafting resources you have missed in the previous act, and they are available to buy at the begining of each new act. Those are not random.
I have played through the game 7 times and I have never ever found a "random tome" in the BE.

Well, i don't see how that could be the case.
Did you buy all the elixirs? Perhaps you forgot about one of the skill tomes for mages/warriors and got it later?

It simply doesn't fit with the way the black emporium works. The black emporium has a set list of items etc which do not disappear between acts. The only change is the new items becoming available as you progress. As there are only those three elixirs/tomes to start and to finish I am doubtful there is any element of random chance involved.

Otherwise you've come across a handy bug/glitch which nobody i know has mentioned.

Really? I must be on crazy pills man. I swear I saw actual tomes in BE. I'm talkin about these...

There is a similar looking icon for those missing crafting resources. You probably got it mixed up with those.
