Could anybody suggest some help with Zatherian this guy is in credibly difficult & those werewoves sure dont help much because they are in a sheild or something.  I'm lvl 9 with Morrigan, Sten, & Allister.  Any tips would be appreciated because I'm getting owned in the first 10 seconds of the battle!

Fairly certain you can CC him while you kill off the sylvans.

Hit him with a stun right at the start (force field or petrify work well) and then run into the side passage (to the west, it's a dead end blocked by rubble) dragging your party with you. He'll stay there and attack the wolves while his minions come after you. Once you've cleaned up the minions, you can heal up and then go after him. Make sure you keep your interrupts (shield bash, stone fist, dirty fighting) handy for any time he casts a long casting time spell (purple bar over head).



The shades heal themselves any time they damage a party member, so you should focus fire on them, if you can immobilize them it's much easier to take them down. Still you should kill the sylvans first, the shades can take a hell of a pounding and they don't do much more damage than the sylvans which die pretty fast.

Yep, that's what I did too; I got my party to run off into the side passage. That way you can fight the minions one by one and Zathrian wastes his time fighting the inert werewolves.

If Allister has cleanse area just use that near the wolves and they join the fight. Makes it way easier.

Interesting tactics, but for this particular event i use a focus fire approach. I ignore everything but him because once he is killed, or health reduced the fight is over, at level 9 or 10 this takes about 30 secs. My party config is as follows



Me cold mage/heal

Allister sword and board tank

Sten 2h dps warrior

Leliana bow



I lead off with a hex (reduces resistances to cold) then winters grasp(?), cone of cold, lightning and arcane blast, rinse and repeat, and it is usually over by then. As i said though you have to focus fire on him and if necessary use a health pot to mitigate the damage from his minions while you bang away on him.

As mentioned above the Templar spell Cleanse Area pretty much ended the fight before it began...though I can't remember if I had Wynne hit Zathrian with Petrify or not anymore.

This is the answer that helped me get past this part.  I also ran my whole team into that open enclave/room and fought the fight from their.

Yeah. Cleanse Area is LETHAL in that one ^^ I just ran Alistair into Witherfang, used it and sat back. She killed them all on her own.

Well, I think Morrigan might have been casting some of her spells too, but apart from her and the other free werewolves, Witherfang killed Zathrian on her own. Yeah.

I focus fire on Zatharian and ignore everything else. Once he is down the battle ends.
