I'd be happy, haven't romanced anybody except for Kelly. Ashley was nuked. :-/

I specifically remember Dusty Everman saying in one of his posts that having dinner with Kelly does in fact register as a choice/decision by the importer--which makes me wonder: what does that mean for those who are already engaged in a relationship with Kaidan, Ashley, or Liara?

I have heard that (also from Dusty) what happens during the "dinner" fest is basically determined by what you told Kelly at the very beginning of the game. Specifically, whether you told her that you would "catch her" or "embrace her" in response to her comment on getting along with you or something along those lines. If it's the former, then that means a platonic, friend-zone-only relationship; whereupon the latter means more than that. I don't exactly remember what Dusty said, but I'm fairly certain that was the point.

EDIT: I should clarify that I am referring to the dinner invitation, not the other one where she dances for you.

So the answer to the "Catching her" talk supposedly determines what happened during the Dinner in Shepards quarters?

Well, I'd just like to point out one thing. You can do that discussion several times, it is always in the "I'd like to talk" (or whatever it said) section. So if that discussion really determines what goes on during the dinner then that would mean that if one were to do that talk several times and every time choose a different answer, then the Choice Flag would constantly shift around.

Also if there is a Flag for the Dinner itself, but there isn't a Flag for the "Catch Her" talk then I dont think that talk determines the outcome of the dinner. Although if someone who was data-mining were to find a flag for the talk (as well as the actual dinner) then it might be so that the talk does influence it.

So the situation is as follows , we have a possible (not 100% confirmed yet) piece of info that says that the dinner does register as a choice/decision. So if we find a flag in the game files for the talk then it is very likely it (the talk) might have some sort of effect, if we dont find a flag then nothing to worry about.

Personally I dont think anything happens that might compromise the stability of our romance with our LI (whoever we chose) and that the dinner simply was pleasent dinner & talk between two friends and Co-workers. So untill we find out more, I'd say just relax. Though I wouldn't mind having Kelly as a possible LI in ME3.

I hope it has consequences. Let's see here. This is my canon Shepard. Love triangle with Liara and Ash. Ash died on Virmire. Banged Liara before Illos. Screwed Jack before Horizon. Had "dinner" with Kelly. Then went to the engine room with Miranda. Broke it off with Liara during LotSB. He really likes Miranda. As I said, I hope it has consequences.

That was a bug, it was supposed to be one time only. They've said they are aware of it but I think they mentioned the flag registers only once or something.

Oh. "Well, That's just Prime."

If that is so I MIGHT have to take all my Sheps, both "Mains" and "Alts", and redo the whole thing if it really is so that it was interpreted as a romantic gesture and not just dinner between friends. I'll just see what happens and asses the situation as it develops.

Good analysis, Rin. Dusty noted that that conversation about catching Kelly WASN'T meant to be played more than once; he said it was a glitch. I guess that makes things even more confusing, doesn't it? =]

EDIT: Ninja'd!

Well, it does make it slightly more confusing. But as I said, I am just gonna stand down and see how the situation develops. The last thing I want is to do is hurt the feelings of my Love Interest (Liara for my 2 Main sheps [both male shep and femshep], Jack for one Alt Male Shep, Tali for another Alt Male Shep and Liara for everyone else [so far]).

So yeah, we'll see what happens.

Here's a few posts from Dusty about it for those interested.

One. (How to: Kelly's cabin)
Two. (Friendship/Romantic Kelly, feeding the fish and you!)
Three. (Kelly's "I'd catch you / I'd embrace you / I'd drop you" conversation detailed)

Did someone say menage-a-trois?

No? Well, I think Liara should be open to one. I don't see why Kelly wouldn't be.

Only thing better would be a foursome after I start pursuing Ashley in Mass Effect 3,

Kelly is the best LI in ME2, unlike the others it doesn't pretend to be anything more than a booty call.

Ok, I'm getting sinking feelings here. I might just have perform "Plan: Rewind & Retcon" on my playthroughs. Also if Kelly turns out to be a Full-blown love interest in ME3 I might just make one playthrough specificly made for her.

None of Dusty's posts mention Kelly possible effects on a savegame import. So it's perfectly possible it won't affect ME3 at all...

And this is the consequences of leaving all the trysts off-screen and leaving everything romance-related to players' imagination. And leaving the clothes on during the sex scenes. As the result, the players don't even know what's going on. Kelly has the worst case of it - even though you discuss it afterwards, you still haven't the slightest idea what happened between you two.

I don't know what's happened between Shepard and Kelly, I don't know if Tali ever removed her suit, and I don't know if Garrus and Shepard managed to make that turian / human thing work, and I don't know if you actually had sex with Jack or just cuddled. And I don't know if someone walked on Shepard and Miranda in the engine room or not.

I don't have such confusion about the scenes in ME1, maybe because you get to see the aftermath with your LI undressed in bed, and you both very satisfied. I didn't care much for motion-sickness-inducing closeups during the process, though, when they were trying very hard to make it unclear whose hands were on whose part of the body.

Come on. I don't ever want to feel confused about what's happened in the game, and that includes relationships. This is my own avatar, if he had an affair, I should be aware of it. And if he had a disastrous tryst, I should be aware of it, as well. It doesn't have to be explicit, but it has to be clear.

Um...?

(first post, final paragraph)

Does doing this with Kelly count as cheating on your ME1 love interest?  Kelly’s a free spirit, and as such can be more of a bed buddy, hence why “romancing” her doesn’t turn down the picture frame on your desk, or get in the way of your romancing any of the main ME2 love interests.  Will this affect anything in ME3?  Well, we haven’t made the game yet, but the fact that you had Kelly up to your cabin is in your save game.
