They could have just had everyone be at the Hanged Man when you visited there. With them telling you that they want to speak in private for any conversations which need to happen at home.

But what if they don't want to?

You have to look at it both way:

1)Players complained of talking to every companion in the camp and then they had NOTHING to talk about it for the rest of the game.

2)Players that prefer to talk to a character  when something happen a la DAA or Da2.

I would love to have the option to talk to the Li when I want, if is in the house to invite him back to the room too... play cards? ^_^

A centralized location for meeting would be nice whether for friendly conversation or more pressing matters. I think for Dragon age 2 the hanged man could have been this location as apparently everyone goes there for one reason or the other. Merelle I suspect gets lost and just ends up there. Perhaps Varick walks her home when this happens. It depends on the storyline of course.

If we're housed in a town but only for a short while the local inn/tavern seems like a good place. If we're on the move then a camp would make more sense. If we're going to be stationed in a city for the long term perhaps a well liked tavern or even invite them over to your house to speak.

The only thing I miss about Party Camp is the inability to view/change a companion's equipment while at home base. That tends to be a pain in the butt.

I also liked the party camp music, but that wasn't exclusive to Origins. It was just a good song.

For me, spending time at the party camp in DA:O was one of the big highlights. I was always curious to find out more about my companions; hear Leliana tell a tale, flirt with Alistair or praise my mabari for stealing morigans belongings. When returning to the camp after completing a quest there would often be cutscenes or deep conversations. Good times!

I really do miss the partycamp in DA:2 and it feels a bit awkward visiting a companion on their home when most of the times they dont have anything to say at all.

Also agreeing with the rest of you that the feature to be able to manage your whole party and its equipments was highly useful.

Even if they kept companion dialog the exact same way as it was in DA2, I would still like camp to return, just for the sake of divvying up equipment.

In Origins, I could do everyone all at once, and then sell everything left over.
In DA2, I either had to hang out at one of those gather your party stations, and cycle though every companion (with load times in rounds), or else just keep everything in my inventory until the next time I used each character. Which typically ended up with me just selling everything under 2 stars whenever my inventory got full. Which sucked, as the stars change depending on what class character is looking at it, and the stars aren't always accurate.

This. I don't care if there's a camp, but there should be a way to do inventory management without having to actually have the person in your party. Not everywhere, that wouldn't make sense, but at least from some centralized location, where you also have access to party storage, and preferably in a place with a merchant.

Nothing was more tiresome than having to haul items out of storage, go the Hanged Man, cycle through folks, and then run up to the shady character upstairs to sell EVERYTHING.

P.S.: That guy had a good business strategy. I don't know where he got the money, but he could easily have outfitted a small army with gear that was ever-so-slightly worse than what I ended up using.

How about something more like mass effect? There is a central location, the normandy, but within it each companion has their own place, doing what they do. I'm not sure how they'd do this without having the DA3 protagonist travel by boat, but it's something to keep in mind. I want to be able to adjust the equipment of my companions easily and keep them all in relatively close proximity.

As most people have said on here... the biggest issue is clearly not being able to access everyone's inventory at once (although the lack of customization made it almost irrelevant anyway). Personally as much as I liked the idea of each character having their own space (it clearly fit in with being stuck in the same city for 10 years), I miss the camp very much. I agree with others mentioning how it would have been fun to walk into the Hanged Man and see some of the characters actually hanging out in there like they say they do.. Also every time that Varric mentioned buying my character a drink I never got to see it happen! That would have been fun ^^

Ultimately.. if the story in DA3 has us traveling I would prefer a camp (maybe with some personal tents as well)

I loved the camp! Maybe a little arrow over a Companion's head when he has something new to say. This time, I'd like to be able to visit each person's tent, if it's an actual camp :) I'm sure it would say something about each person. That could have been done better in DA2. A lot of their homes were a bit ... devoid of personality. Even Aveline's office could have used some personal touches. Like maybe she redoes the window treatments or something after Jevan leaves xD

I'm impartial and indifferent to the group camp, I think that the storyline should be sorted out first then how the companion system/features work.

I do admit though that I think they could have done a little bit of a better job with the companion system in DA 2, didn't feel like it had as much depth as DA:O even though it sort of had the right idea.

So say maybe there is a DA game with a Darkspawn invasion and you are a Grey Warden in charge of a fortress that is meant to stop the Darkspawn from invading...then you get your companions to be in your keep/fortress.

Or if there is a DA game similar to DA 2, where you live in a city or village whilst on your quest/journey/experience, and all your companions 'live' (I use that word loosely cause like I said, I think DA 2 could have done a better job in some ways with the companion home bases) in that city or village in different areas of it.

Group camp? No. Companion HQ, yes. I was thinking of something more like Assassin's Creed II. Not only is that where the companions are located to interact with them, but when you complete major milestones, you keep trophies of the victories.

And for that Dragon Age romance element, the dresser drawer next to your bed contains the "small clothes" of your other conquests. And for the devs to have even more fun with it, click on any trophy and you can reply the highlight real of the battle or ...

I'd throw my support behind getting the camp back. As many others have said it just had a nice feel to it. It just felt like I had my own private little army and I could inspect them all in one spot.

Of course how great this theoretical new camp would be would depend on just how much they bring back from the Origins style. The ability to arm all of your companions from there should be a given but if the dialogue system is also like that of Origins than it becomes twice as fun as the home base system in DA2.

The party camp worked great for Origins, given the story and all. But the home bases worked alot better in DA2. So whatever the plot is for DA3, I would like a camp\\base solution that works best for the story.

The choice between a camp system or home base system should be dictated by the story being told. If the party is going to be covering large parts of the landscape then the camp system makes sense. If the party is going to spent a lot of time in one place then the home base system makes sense. The story may require a mixture of the two systems.

A camp like hub would be nice but a camp specifically, no. They did that already it was great but they should do something different. Perhaps a bar, guild hall, park, market or brothel. Ideally I'd like the hub to be different depending on where you are like in Denerim you'd stayed at Arl Eamon's estate.

I'd rather see group inventory management return at home camp, Why that was cut from DA2 is a mystery, i'm assuming the person who decideds such matters still believes drilling holes in your head to expell sickness demons is a routine medical procedure (canadian health care system at work ladies & gentlemen)

I want both. One spot where all the companions convene and you can access group inventory (maybe have some cutscenes and dialogues there involving all or some of the party members), and then have the companions all have their own "place", not necessarily a home, but a spot that's just theirs where you can have conversations without other party members nearby.

I did not care for party camp. Inviting Love Interest X to your tent with everyone right there was just...weird. Same with being able to have deep personal discussions in the middle of a dungeon with your other companions standing there twiddling their thumbs. Odd. Wrong.

@Ineffable, I want both too. As I was playing DA2 I wondered why and thought it'd be nice if everyone was hanging out at the hanged man. They talked about doing so enough but I never saw them there.

It depends. Are we in the city? If we all had to cram into the alienage it would be pretty awkward. Still, it's nice when traveling across the lands for us to be able to stop and set up camp, assuming there is a diversity for camp environments. It was remarkably odd that all across Ferelden we managed to set up camp near a river and gave everyone a spot at the camp while Morrigan had her separate tent a good 20 yards away from us.

I'm in the damn Deep Roads, and I need to set up camp, maybe I'm going to a canyon and there isn't a river. Or maybe there just isn't a damn river over here. That'd be nice.

I think we might get a moving hub that is different for each part of the story or location in the world you are. Maybe sometimes it's an outdoor camp or sometimes an inn or tavern.

They actually had this in DA:O, where Arl Eamon's estate in Denerim and Redcliffe castle became temporary party hubs.
