Hello out there! I know this question may already have been asked, but I have searched through the forums and not had any luck so here goes...!
I'm working on a mod on NWN2, making an 'updated' version of Baldur's Gate and TOSC just for fun. I may not even complete it, but I would like some help getting started! For example... where can I find or how do I extract sounds from the game? Would like to get hold of the NPC dialog sounds, and I've seen some programs out there like Game Audio Player and DLTCEP but they have no useful tutorial or readmes on how to actually use their programs and after hours of frustration I feel like banging my head against a wall! I know some people have already uploaded some of the NPC sounds to the internet - but that is only SOME and I need to get hold of ALL of them to put in the NWN2 mod. If anyone has any idea on how to extract the sounds from Baldur's Gate and TOSC I'd be very grateful and credit them in my work!

I think you should join one of the existing groups that are already (or at least were) working on this kind of project. Nobody else is truly getting close to the finish line either (last I heard from the BG2 to DA:O project was they'd "soon" be done with Chez Irenicus) but together you might at least get further.
Those DA:O guys decided to revoice everything though, IIRC, since BG2, differently from DA:O isn't fully voiced.

Good point! I don't know how many groups there are working on this though and who to contact. I already know one pair (Drechner + someone I'm so sorry forgotten her name) are near to completion. How long does modding take? (I am so new to this) And surely the process would be a lot simpler if all groups worked together and provided each other with audio files and a transcript of BG?
If those 2 elements were provided, how long would a modding of a game like BG take do you reckon?

That depends. Tutu/BGT style conversions are sort of the easy way. In this manner, a BG2 mod for Icewind Dale has already been made.
But NWN and DA:O are 3D games, so you need to recreate all maps (in 3D). As I said, I've never heard of anybody even getting close to getting to a point where it would be realistic to assume that the entire game might be recreated in this way. Mind you, you will not be paid for something of the size of a full time job. BG2 is a lot larger than DA:O in pretty much all respects (areas, quests (minor point), dialogue).

There's a very active discussion about some group's progress to remake Baldur's Gate into a NWN2-mod in the NWN2-modules subforum.
Also for the same game: the BG-TOTSC areas are available in open source.
