Let my writer's imagination take over for a bit.
Let's not: the end of the novel, with his POV, completely contradicts your scenarios for a "broken" Kai Leng.

The Illusive Man is cold, ruthless and most likely racist. But, he's not stupid. He wouldn't torture one of his top operatives, especially when the job was completed, albeit not the way T.I.M. wanted it to go, but it was completed none the less.

It was the heat of the moment, you don't know what TIM said to him on his failure, or what he did to him for his failure.

TIM: There is room for improvement.....
Don't doubt it. Don't pretend to know the man. "Top Operative" means nothing to him. If Leng couldn't take out Anderson, he couldn't even scratch Shepard.

But, what I'm saying is Leng is one of T.I.M.'s best operatives, and it would be stupid to get rid of him, for no reason, so T.I.M. wouldn't.

I never said get rid of him, what I meant was "cybernetic augmentation", the forced-deforming kind.

There were extenuating circumstances involving Anderson. And Anderson isn't some noob...if it weren't for Saren he would have been the first human Spectre. He's the most decorated soldier in the Alliance; don't sell him short.

I meant it in TIM's "POV". TIM doesn't even care about Shepard's skills, only the results. That guy's ignorance and ego will be his downfall if it isn't obvious enough already.

I'll repeat what I said in a previous thread about wanting to have MULTIPLE confrontations with Leng, e.g. him sniping at you from a rooftop, an intense close range gun battle, and the obligatory hand-to-hand fight. That way when you finally do kill him the victory will be all the sweeter.

Also, before Shep kills Leng, I want to make sure Anderson and Aria have a little fun with him as well. *evil grin*

Now you're selling TIM short, have you read these novels yet?

Not really, I consider them bad, which is why I don't think BW will pick up after them.

That's just like, your opinion man.
That whole conversation about Anderson's history with Saren in ME1? Totally based on a novel. Liara rescuing Shepard's body from the Shadow-broker? Totally based on a comic. This character we're talking about right now? Totally based on a novel.
Whether you personally enjoyed that content or not is not up for debate, it's already been confirmed that Kai Leng will be in ME3. Too late to think "The novels are bad, Bioware won't use them", mate.
