Hi guys, please bare with me, I'm your worst nightmare regarding pc knowledge, as in, I know how to turn it on and off, sorry for any potential burst blood vessels Posted Image.
This pc was built for me by a pc shop, my only guide to them was that it was for gaming on. This was about 5years ago and absolutely nothing has been changed on it since then apart from windows auto-updates.

Game Version - 1.03 - Physical Disc copy
Have a few armour colour changing mods installed but thats all (tried also with none installed, no difference).

System Details:

OS - Windows XP Prof, Vers 2002 SP3
Proc - AMD Athon 64, 3500+2.20Ghz
DirectX - 9c
Clock Speed - don't know where to find :(
RAM - 2Gb
Display Adaptor - Nvidia Geforce 7600Gs 256mb x2 (Bridged)
Display Driver version - 6.14 (quite recently rolled back to that by a tech guy, I had tried to update drivers (as per suggested fixes on here) and for some reason the bridged cards didnt/wouldn't update correctly, I think only one of the two cards was updating, sending pc into blue screen of death loop, tech guy remedied that and told me not to touch it =/ Although I know that to be too low a driver, I wonder if its the cause of my problems, if so, can you guys please suggest how I can update the bridged adaptors (knowing that Im clueless)?
Sound Adapter - Realtek High Def Audio
Driver Version - 5.10 (probably ancient too :( )

I think thats all the info you need, my apologies if not.

I realise Im probably running at the lower end of the required specs but the main game plays ok.

I tend to miss a lot, if not, most of the starting dialogues and cinematics from cut-scenes, skipping straight to the first conversation wheels on most occasions. (I tried the suggested force stereo sound, click on and/or off fix but it didn't work for me).
I've also came across the same problem as another poster here, on accasion, completely randomly I'll get a repeat conversation when collecting new quests, best example (although doesn't always happen) is in Act of Mercy, when first speaking with Thrask, when this loop happens I even get multiples of reputation points from companions.
For the most part the DLCs don't work for me, they play for a bit then crash me to desktop again I realise they are pretty high-end and my pc sadly isn't. (would my sound/video drivers be the problem perhaps?).
Also when signing off a character, I quite often get the message that Ive been disconnected from the Dragonage servers, most times I don't play logged on, no issue with it just a wee bit odd.

I'm terrified of messing with things on the pc as if it "oopsies" I have no idea how to fix anything, so I tend to the just sit in a corner and wibblePosted Image (my husband reckons I get crabbit and blame everyone else lol).

If anyone of you superstars can be bothered to take the time and patience to help me I would be so grateful but I'll be fair and give advanced warning that it could turn out to be quite a traumatic experience for you Posted Image.

Sadly, I think it is just a matter of too little computer power. That is a single core processor running at 2.2GHz while min spec is a dual core 1.8GHz, so you're running just over half capacity. A 7600 vid card is below specs, and I personally don't know if bridging them gives enough boost.

With that rig, you are probably getting all you can.

Thanks for the prompt reply, I appreciate it!
Now I'm gutted lol, I could've sworn I had a dual core pc, shows what I know lol.

Thanks again!

If it is the x2 version then it is, but the 3500 is single. I would get someone you know to build you another computer, even a midline system would blow a five year old system away.

My 8 year old computer plays DA2 just fine. It is a Pentium single core 2.4 Ghz processor, with an Radeon 3650 card. (the best agp card I could get two years ago). I'll suggest getting a new videocard as a first measure as a five year old computer should have a PCI-Express slot for a newe videocard. You might also need a new power supply unit.... Might I suggest a single 512 MB card or 1GB card....?

I recently had the store made me an offer (bid) on a new computer; the guy at the store sugges an ASUS Geforce GTS 450...I'm not sure how much it'll be in dollars but in Danish currence it is about 1400 Danish Crowns. (about 280-300 US dollars). It'll probably be a lot cheeper in the US, though.

Did the guy who rolled back your videocard drivers also clean your computer's interior? Recently, my computer had to to get serviced by the store that build it for me 8 years ago. And the dust...I'll tell you... the dust, they cleaned it....the dust went away....

Running it just fine?? By whose definition, what graphics quality and fps??

It is going to depend if she has AGP or it does sound like PCIe interface whether it would even work. Plus you have to remember she is running a system that has 1/4 the power or less than a new system. As an example, I just built mine, with a quad core 3.5 GHZ processor whereas she has a single core 2.2, meaning her single core is running 1/3 less than one of mine and I still have 3 more than her. On some new high graphic games, even with the core and 12gigs of ram I, see lower fps due to only a single 6950 card. Trying to patch an old outdated machine such as a single core 2.2 ghz machine is wasting money at best, if you want to run it as a gaming machine. You can make it work if you are willing to settle for low quality, but in my opinion it isn't a good use of money. IF you get a high end gaming system now, you would get a 6 core system, 8-12 gigs ram, one or two high end AMD vid cards(no I wouldn't suggest nvidea, they are screwing up drivers too much lately), and Win7 64 bit.

Let me just say that I've played both DA2 and Legacy on this machine. And It did just fine. I don't care much about graphical quality, the visual quality my 3650 Radeon card delivers is good enough for me.
[I have some built-in building errors in mye eyes, so maybe that's why I can't pick up the finer points in graphical quality?) My game was played on medium quality for most of the graphical settings.

I also think I got a decent fps, although I did experience some sort of slow down when there were many monsters and enemies on the screen at one time,. but I solved this by simply running away......only 2-4 enemies or monsters followed....

I agree, however, that if the OP wants to make sure she has a computer good enough for today's and tomorrow's games she'll need to buy a new computer...

Thanks for the responses guys, really appreciate it =) My game only ever ran on medium settings, main game plays ok apart from the dialogue/cutscene thing but I dont know if thats a game glitch or my guffy pc, both the Exiled Prince and Legacy play sometimes but more often they die a painful death, no pattern to it, sometimes it plays sometimes crashes the game. I accept the crashes are likely caused by my poor pc struggling to cope :)

Being the pc nublet that I am, I had no idea how poor my pc was, when it was built for me 5yrs ago it cost me nearly £900 (seemed a lot at the time) but I believed it was "top-end". they told me that bridging the 2 x256mb cards would force capacity from each giving better performance overall but I don't know, they probably saw the "Clueless" sticker slapped on my forehead and rubbed their hands together lol.

My motherboard can support 2x cores (according to the box) is it worth having upgrades done to that and the RAM and graphics, or am I realistically going to be cheaper just buying new again?

My husband is laughing at me, Im utterly gutted to find out that my "baby" is ancient, dated and rubbish -wibble- but in the short-term Im trying to convince my dad to swap pc's with me, his is quad-core, 512mb Graphics card and 4GB RAM and he doesnt really game on his, so wish me luck lol.

Thanks again!!

It is really going to depend on the hardware in your box and what you want to do with it, as well as how much ready cash you have. A dual core is mid-low end right now, so if you are looking to game into the future, then you would be better off going all new. If you want to game some, and surf the web then upgrading may be worth it, depending on how you go and what else is in your box. You may have to upgrade your powersupply, you need a new chip, and a new graphics card, so if you look at that then the only other added items are hard-drive and motherboard. Motherboards range from 50-400 dollars US, depending on what you want and your box. Hard-drives are pretty cheap, 80 US$ for a Terrabite drive which is great for having plenty of room.

As far as the 7600GS go, they were a low end card to start, so it sounds like maybe you weren't exactly taken, but there were much better cards available even 5 years ago....so maybe you DON'T go back to the shop that built it for you.....

See if you have a Computer geek friend who could help you out....you know, the guy you always laughed at until you needed your comp fixed...HAHAHHAHAHAHA.

Also as far as gaming rigs go, about 3 years is the limit on being able to play top end games, and the later years you will be dropping graphics. Heck, even with my new rig, I can't max out Crysis2 DX11 graphics, I need another card to run dual 6950s to have a chance.
