Best Act to Play Legacy In

When she met up with Hawke in Legacy, she seemed friendly and at peace with her situation, but later, during the fight against the Qunari, she seemed bitter. And then at the last battle, when she asked if Hawke would accept her help, Hawke's replies were the friendly/witty/aggressive flavours of "I didn't know you cared based on your behavior the last time we met". Bethany admitted that she was bitter and said she had accepted her situation.
Now, I'm not here to complain, but I'm starting a new playthrough. I've not decided on whether it'll be a mage (so Carver survives Lothering), or a rogue (so Bethany survives the escape). I'm interested in minimising any discontinuity with regards to the sibling's reaction to his/her situation and how he/she explains his/her being allowed to join Hawke in Legacy.
I suppose doing the DLC in Act 1 would give little discontinuity, but I'd like to do it in other Acts as well, just so that Hawke can wear the armour longer, as I think they look better than some of the item pack armour pieces. So, any ideas? If it's Carver, would it give me less discontinuity if he's a Templar or Warden? Legacy in Act 2 or 3? And likewise for Bethany?

On this run I would like to explore Legacy while Mother is still alive to see how that impacts the family dynamics. My question is, when is the best time to start Legacy? I mean obviously before "All That Remains" .. but how close can I bring it to that point & still have Mother available while maximizing the availability of companions?
I am at the point currently that the only thing left in Act I to complete is the Deep Roads Expedition. So, should I do that part & let Bethany become a Warden & then start Legacy as soon as Act 2 becomes available? I took Carver, Merrill, & Varric with me last time ... still trying to decide who would be best this go around to go with Bethany & I. Does anyone have any thoughts or input? Thanks!

After you rescued you sibling in act 3, but before all hell breaks loose. That's my favorite point to start Legacy. No grumpy siblings/no continuity problems and you stretch act 3 a bit. Otherwise it's pretty short.

What bugs me most is that your sibling makes two incredibly timely appearances if they are wardens (during the Qunari attack and final battle) as it is, so having them make another cameo visit for Legacy really takes away from this 'Bethany/Carver's been taken away for good' angst. It's more like they pop over every weekend for mum to do their laundry and cook them Sunday dinner like some freshman student. Having them in the circle/templars at least makes more sense to me.
You could of course do it in Act 1, but I like to think Corypheus was something to do with Kirkwall being such a hotspot for evil magic (can't remember if that's game lore or I just invented that) so that would place it in Act 3. It also jars less with Cassandra reprimanding Varric for 'leaving something out of his tale' - if you're still in Act 1, he's only just started it!

Huh, Legacy makes it very clear why your simbling is there. The very premise of the DLC is that you and your sibling are attacked and rejoin in order to trace the source of the attacks.
So there is no "popping over" of the sibling. The sibbling specifically sought you out after the attack (or vice versa), and has a completely different feel from the main quests's two "timely appearances".
Never mind that, even as a Grey Warden, there's no reason to think our sibling has been taken away from the Free Marches. She's part of the Free Marche's Grey Wardens, and therefore her showing up in Kirkwall from time to time is quite normal (though I grant that in the main quest the timing is rather fortuitous).
