Some people need to realize that games aren't just for the hardcore, young adult male crowd anymore. Bioware has done such great things with story, characters, and role playing that the appeal of modern video games has broadened. This means that developers have a responsibility to differentiate gameplay and accommodate as many types of people who want to play the game as they can.

People shouldn't have to be "good at video games" in order to play through Mass Effect and experience a great story. That's what casual mode is for, and if some people want an even MORE casual mode, I say give it to them. They shouldn't be shut out from the experience just because they don't commit as much time practicing and honing their video games skills.

I play Hard/Insanity only, but I don't scoff at someone who plays casual; I'm just thrilled they are getting to experience Mass Effect despite the fact that they aren't "gamer people."

Edit* quaigee, ya ninja'ed me :bandit: haha.  And well said.

Fair Enough. However I don't think making games easier is the solution. By my own admission I have stated that I am horrible at video games and that I wing it a lot of the times. That doesn't mean that I want developers to hold my hands a give me an easy game that I can beat in two days. In spite of my skills I do wish to be challenged. I don't begrudge or look down upon people who play games on easy but I do get annoyed when people start griping about games being too hard. From my perspective they are getting too easy. Go fugure.

You're missing what I'm saying.  It's not about making games easier; it's about making differentiated gameplay options.  That means more modes to accommodate more people.  Maybe add a "Super Casual Mode."  If you like a challenge, you will still have your Insanity mode to go to.  In fact, they could even add a "Super Insanity Mode" for people who think Insanity is too easy.  In no way does giving more gameplay options on top of the existing ones stifle the difficulty for you.

You exhibit amazing patience with some of these elitest remarks neenee77. My hat is off to you.

Btw that article you posted mentions them getting smarter with the higher difficulties, so I would doubt you'll have to deal with the rock solid enemy formations that I will. :)

try learning the game before crying about ME3 being too difficult. If easy is too hard, just practice. You're prob not a natural gamer and not very coordinated. You just have to play games until you get better. You can't jump into ME as your first ever games and expect to be any good. Most hardcore gamers have 20+ years of playing them and building hand and eye coordination.

ME and DA arent even tough RPGs. They're Action RPG or more a Shooter with RPG sprinkled on top. If you played a JRPG, you'd see how tough a RPG is. Play a Tactical RPG like Disgaea or something and you'd see how hard RPGs are. Play Demon Souls and you'll see a Action RPG that's hard. I have a 100s+ list of great RPGs and a list of hard ones, but DA2 or ME2 as hard? Not so. Not in the least. Only thing that made DA2 hard parse would be the huge amount of glitches. The collectors ship on insanity do to it's design and terrible AI for party members you have+glitches makes that hard, but the level itself isnt.

I love how you can say "just practice" so easily. I hope you realize that not everyone has time to practice for the sake of being better in a video game. Some of us work, have families, and lives. I'm pretty good at Mass Effect, but I certainly understand if someone just wants to play the game for the story and not worry about "practicing". I'm a story guy myself. I've played on insanity and I can't say I've enjoyed the game any more because of the increased difficulity.

Thanks. yes i have a disabled child. it does make it difficult to practice alot. I have to wait until she is in bed or the husband is home to help watch over her. it is my "break" so to speak.

As to other games. my husband kept trying to get me to play socom. I hate it. i refuse. sorry i dont like it. I dont like most shooter games. He tried with killzone also and i told him he was insane. It scared the crap out of me just to look at it. it was too intense. I did play black ops online and with practice AI. that was about my limit. it wasn't bad.

Also, to the other people that are being mean. look bioware wants our feedback. they have been tweaking the game based off our feedback for months. I am not saying that it should not be harder for those that want it. I am saying that it should not be harder for the easy level. read my link. pay attention to the what the developers are saying and quit making fun of people that have made this game popular. it is people like me and people like you that have made this game the most anticiplated game in the world. you play your way. I want to make sure that i can play mine. Along the way, if someone has any helpful hints, tips, or advice (which there has been and i thank you) I will follow it to learn more and become a better player. :)

Just out of curiosity what is your preffered class in the first two games?
I have a PS3 so i dont have the first one. but infiltrator is my preferred class. however, i have recently been playing the biotic and have found its actually alot easier in most of the game (gotten about half way). tried the vangard but kept getting myself killed by charging. I gave up on the character for now. may pick it up later after i play somemore.
Yeah vanguard is my personal favorite but I end up getting splattered more with that one.  Vangard is a high risk high reward class.  Infiltrator is a good one becase you can move around the battle field undetected and you can take out enemies at a distance.  I think a good biotic class for you though would be the sentinel.  The tech armor makes you sturdier and you get access to both biotic and tech powers which is good for stripping down enemy protection.
I was thinking about that the other day. I think i will definately try it out. thanks. I may try that class in ME3 first. it may help me get a feel for the game without having to worry too much. thank you so much! :)
No problem,  have fun:)

I am not asking for it to be easier. I am asking for them to not make the easy level harder than it is supposed to be. And i am not sure how you think my op means that it would be a game you can beat in 2 days. This is an epic story and it will be long. but to make it harder for those that want to play on the easest level is just wierd to me. it doesn't make sense.

I like to play on Veteran. There is enough challenge to add some difficultly but it's not just a shooter. I'm playing on Hardcore at the moment and I rarely die but the constant barrage of enemies gets repetitive.
I understand where you are coming from. Combat is not for everyone and it certainly is not the feature that draws me to the game.

I wasn't directed at you. I'm just griping because I do feel that the gaming industry has been making games too easy. I don't expect to beat ME3 in that time period.

I think people need to remember that not everybody plays at the same skill or experience level. If you are a person that does not play alot of video games and doesn't have much experience Mass Effect can be a little intimidating, on the other hand if you play alot and have alot of experience with shooters or rpgs Mass Effect may not seem difficult at all. No need to jump down someone's throat because they don't have the alot of skill or experience, if anything give them tips and offer to help.

Mass Effect 2 hard?!?! I hope you're joking.

I hope you are too.<_<

I'm not.

Edit:
Other than dealing with Praetorians Scions backed up by hordes of Husks, the game at times felt like a walk in the park in comparison to ME1.

ME1's higher difficulty level wasn't hard. It was annoying. I find myself playing ME1 on veteran nowadays because frankly, shooting at a krogan for 2 minutes straight to make it go down is just horrible.

Since I have not played ME3... I cannot tell how much "harder" is it compared to ME2. But I can understand where you are coming from.

However, it is hard for Bioware to make a game with a build in cheat mode or super easy mode because then the game would be like:
Intro -> Repeat[ Cut Scene -> Dialog ] -> Ending

It is also nearly impossible to make difficulty settings for everyone. Maybe easy mode in ME3 is not that much harder while insanity is. Only time will tell.

The easiest solution would be to buy your games on PC, and mod your way around the difficulties.
When you buy on console, you are limited to whatever cheats the devs decide to implement and/or release to the general public.
With PC, you have a horde of modders out there on the interwebz who spend their spare time deconstructing the game to figure out how it works, and then creating all new content. They even create programs so those unfamiliar with the modding process can just click a few buttons and the mods are installed.

thanks. I was thinking of doing that, mainly so i could play ME1 also. I should, thats how i ended up playing diablo 2 a long time ago lol. it helped alot. that really is a good idea when i have the money for it i think i will. :) but i need to get a better computer first. working on getting one asap.

Your right only time will tell. lol it wouldn't be like that lol. Dragon Age 2 has a cheat and i still died a couple of times, still fought as well. lol it just gave me more options and i hit harder with lower enemies.

What's with these elitists here constantly saying Insanity is too easy. Give me a break, what are you trying to prove? I thought it was frakking hard (as it should be, it's called Insanity after all) and the only reason (for ME1 at least) to complete it, was that the achievement unlocks some bonus. After that, I haven't touched Insanity again. It's just not fun for a lot of us.

And keep in mind that a lot of people don't play games for the challenge. Mass Effect is a story driven game and people play it for that reason. I can see why even Casual is hard for some.

So I do hope for the OP that Casual difficulty won't be made harder. Others whining about the OP to just suck it up and get better at the game, deal with it. The OP isn't forcing you to play on Casual now, does he/she?

Why would they make the game even harder than it already is? I play mass effect 2 and dragon age 2. I cheat on dragon age 2 and have completed it several times. I refuse to download any content for dragon age because the update will patch the flaw making me able to cheat in the game. I really hope that there is a cheat in Mass effect 3 if it is going to be harder. I have a very hard time with mass effect 2 (completing) because I cannot cheat and the Reapers/collectors scare the crap out of me. I love love love the story and am so looking forward to the game. However, if even the easy level is going to be that much harder than that in ME2 i fear that i will give up on the game and never play it. I consider myself a role-player not a hardcore gamer. I understand that the hardcore players are looking for more of a challenge and i do respect that. however, I dont think that they should forget about the players that make their husbands buy the game in the first place. After my husband rented them i took over both games. I hope bioware staff read this. Please either keep a cheat in the system or make a stupid level for anyone like me that loves the story, the character interactions, and the decsion making. If while playing infiltrator, i cannot camp and pick off with no ability to gain any advantage to my play style i fear that i wont be able to play the game. does anyone understand where i am coming from?

That's why we can't have nice things!

Excuse me for being blunt but I'm not sure if you should be insisting on playing such games if the easy level is THAT hard for you. A game after all, is a challenge. Be it requiring reflexes, quick mind or planning. It's not a movie or book that you can cruise through with no input.

I'm saying this because these games are pretty easy already, maybe this isn't the genre for you at least.

I know I won't make the mistake of playing on Insanity the first time while knowing almost nothing about how the classes works again.
