What's with these elitists here constantly saying Insanity is too easy. Give me a break, what are you trying to prove? I thought it was frakking hard (as it should be, it's called Insanity after all) and the only reason (for ME1 at least) to complete it, was that the achievement unlocks some bonus. After that, I haven't touched Insanity again. It's just not fun for a lot of us.

And keep in mind that a lot of people don't play games for the challenge. Mass Effect is a story driven game and people play it for that reason. I can see why even Casual is hard for some.

So I do hope for the OP that Casual difficulty won't be made harder. Others whining about the OP to just suck it up and get better at the game, deal with it. The OP isn't forcing you to play on Casual now, does he/she?

Well I understand where the OP is coming from, I tend to play the games on easy first so i can enjoy the story of the game without taking chances of dying alot. But to the OP I believe i heard Casual will stay Casual like its always been, its the other difficulties that will be made harder than they usually are.

Why would they make the game even harder than it already is? I play mass effect 2 and dragon age 2. I cheat on dragon age 2 and have completed it several times. I refuse to download any content for dragon age because the update will patch the flaw making me able to cheat in the game. I really hope that there is a cheat in Mass effect 3 if it is going to be harder. I have a very hard time with mass effect 2 (completing) because I cannot cheat and the Reapers/collectors scare the crap out of me. I love love love the story and am so looking forward to the game. However, if even the easy level is going to be that much harder than that in ME2 i fear that i will give up on the game and never play it. I consider myself a role-player not a hardcore gamer. I understand that the hardcore players are looking for more of a challenge and i do respect that. however, I dont think that they should forget about the players that make their husbands buy the game in the first place. After my husband rented them i took over both games. I hope bioware staff read this. Please either keep a cheat in the system or make a stupid level for anyone like me that loves the story, the character interactions, and the decsion making. If while playing infiltrator, i cannot camp and pick off with no ability to gain any advantage to my play style i fear that i wont be able to play the game. does anyone understand where i am coming from?

That's why we can't have nice things!

Excuse me for being blunt but I'm not sure if you should be insisting on playing such games if the easy level is THAT hard for you. A game after all, is a challenge. Be it requiring reflexes, quick mind or planning. It's not a movie or book that you can cruise through with no input.

I'm saying this because these games are pretty easy already, maybe this isn't the genre for you at least.

Stop acting like RPGs are should only be played by an exclusive few.  I for one always welcome new fans to the franchise and they don't all have to be at a high skill or experience level.

Too be honest i called FF13 easy because it was the first one i was able to beat, i usually get stuck on Final Boss because i didnt grind enough for the lvls on previous FF games.

ME2 Insanity is ****** easy once you get half of upgrades.

Though ME1 Insanity is just tedious do to insane damage enemies can take.

I agree.

Sometimes I want to play ME2 on Casual( since I already beat it over 20 times and doing it only for the ME3 import) and I find Casual a bit too hard then it should be.

Though I still can beat it very easily, just I can't be relaxed all the time when doing it.

These games really aren't that hard once you familiarize yourself with them. I play on veteran and I could probably play it at a higher difficulty if I wanted to but I find veteran is the best mix of challenge and fun for me.

To be honest, I found Dragon Age Origins incredibly hard at times, on Normal. Perhaps it's just my lousy tactical skills, but I was sing console commands a LOT at the end of the base game and on the Harvester (Golems). I COULD lower it, but most of the time it's not a problem, just with gigantic enemies.

Ha, i finished it on nightmare with a fresh char, solo. It's not hard, if you know how the game mechanics work. Also these games(DA) are mainly meant to be played for their diffculty, as they are throwbacks at old school dungeon crawlers etc, they are supposed to make you strategize, instead of 1 hit kill.
If all you want is to enjoy the story, set it to easy, and melee bash everything.

As for ME3, i hope the game will be more challenging than the second one, i never play on anything below hardcore (have to do hardcore to unlock insanity). I don't see much point to the game mechanics and skills if i can shoot everyting down in a few seconds.

It doesn't seems like there will be much difference gameplaywise between ME2 and ME3 right? In that case we will already be rather familiar with playing when starting ME3 so there is a risk that it will be too easy unless there are some very hard gameplay options.

In the ME3 demo I actually thought it was considerably easier than ME2. The ME3 demo difficulty was fixed to 'Normal' (although they might not have implemented or polished the actual difficulty settings) and I had no problems completing it. With ME2, anything above Casual and I died too often to have fun.

I hope so, i don't want to finish the game only to realise i didn't die once.

If ME2 insanity is too easy for you, do NG+ and skip all weapon/power upgrades and dont hide behind a cover 70% of the time. Problem solved...

Why should I punish myself to have some challenge?

Veteran, Hardocre and Insanity should be harder.

Though Normal can stay how it is, while Casual should be even easier then ME2's one.

That was Scylla Costa. I met him at the ME3 booth at GamesCom and that was one of the things I asked him. I sent a tweet about it shortly after so that might be where you saw it.

Lets see... in ME2, I upgrade my weapon to do 10% more damage, so I take off 10% more from the enemy I am shooting. I upgrade my shield to provide 10% more shield, so the enemy needs 10% more effort to kill me.

Lets make ME3 harder, so developers add 10% more health/protection to the enemy so my upgrade is nullified, enemies do 10% more damage so my upgrade is nullified.

It becomes the same. How are you punishing yourself for more challenge?

"I want a challenge but it must be a challenge that the developers imposed on me, otherwise it is self torture." sounds a bit like "I love being tortured by others, that is call a challenge. When I impose a challenge onto myself, that is call punishment"

Make no sense but... ah well.

this is my concern/confusion as the developers said that it would be harder than ME2 (each level would be like the level above) and the gameplay would be completely different forcing the player to move and not just sit there and pick off. I like playing as a sniper. thats what i do is sit and pick off, even my biotic i sit and hit them with powers, then shoot if i have to. I just don't want them to make the easy level hard. hopefully it will be just right for all of us.

Really?? thank you :) this was what my concern was about. the link i posted while back and watching the convention interviews and reading the articles were all saying that it was going to be harder for each level. keep in mind i do what everyone to have the experience they need.Image IPB

Good point, the easiest option should be as easy in ME3 as it was in ME2 but the hardest should be much more of a challenge than it was in ME2.

I've done ME1 without changing gear or upgrades, proved itself difficult due to a few areas which have insane clusters of enemies and snipers but the game is still pretty easy once you'be got patterns down (AI is insanely easy to abuse).

I've done ME2 without upgrades by accident.

Self challenges are great and all, though it doesn't really stop a game from being too easy..

I will play whatever i want to play. umm you are aware that DA2 has a fighting system that is based off your stats right? so if i am a level 35 when i should be a level 10 the enemies (other than the minor ones) will be matched to my stats. second i think you are misreading my op. thrid you should read the entire thread before you insult me. four i am scared of the monsters. we can't all be dissensitized can we? and finally I do use my pop up combat menu all the time. i also plan. I do fight and i do not go through the game with no imput. and if you can read you seem to be able to write so i assume you can read i do play the game because it is challenging. i just dont want the level that i play at to get more challenging for me to the point that i can't get past a zone. it isn't THAT hard for me. read the thread

I would like ME3 to be harder and force me to become even more proficient at my classes. There is something special about beating a game that is very difficult. It is extremely rewarding to some of us that have been in gaming for awhile and seek out these challenges. Besides I have friends that don't play the game but come over just to experience the story and watch me do what I do with my Vanguard and Shotty Sentinel. Without a high degree of difficultly, I wouldn't be forced to increase my speed, accuracy, and the effectiveness of my tactics.

I do agree, though, that there should be a Casual setting for those that are just in it for the story of Commander Shepard. For me though ... My combat skill needs to mirror the epicness of the story.
