I thought Arrival was pretty difficult on Insanity, but that's because I got myself trapped in a corner with those Pyro douchebags right behind me.

Well, pyros made life difficult in ME2 always, when they get close. At distance, it is fun to strip their shields and then overload them to explode like bombs lol! But yes, I feel that Arrival was somewhat tougher than main ME2 game and even the previous DLCs, though not too hot to handle tough. I hope that while the easy mode is easy, the hardest mode is real hard in ME3.

Pyros become a problem when there are no squadmates available to stagger them and interrupt their pyroclastic spray.  I wonder if we'll get more solo segments for Shepard in ME3.  They tend to be more challenging for all classes except perhaps the CQC Infiltrator.

Add soldier to that. No one messes with soldiers.

i thought ME2 on hardcore was challenging.....enough to make you work at it at least....it's the last one, it should be hard....

edit- that's insanity, not hardcore..

No.  Even Soldiers can derive a benefit from having two squadmates with them.  The CQC Infiltrator is basically the only class for whom squadmates are detrimental.  When the Infiltrator Cloaks, if there are no squadmates around the enemies will usually remain motionless, making them easy pickings.  Compare this to when there are squadmates around and the enemies run around randomly, and you see my point.

I don't want to be a jerk, but Normal was a joke. Insanity was more like Normal.

But I'm all for an option like "I'm here for the story" like in Deus Ex HR and in L4D.

Soldeirs could use squadmates, but soldiers are simply the biggest damage dealers. So solo or not, they aren't to be fooled around with. Anyway, lets stick to the topic.

Normal isn't very hard and that's coming from a guy that usually places on normal. I say they should make a very easy mode for the people who just want to play for the story.

I found Insanity to be insanely (heh) easy. That means nothing about "skill" - maybe I just used a particularly cheesy tactic - or had a lucky skill set.

Whatever the case - the last difficulty level should be made for those who are used to video games to have a challenge.

Not to make people feel good that they beat it on the hardest mode of play.

Beating Insanity was a combination of both for me. Not only did I want a challenge but I wanted to prove to myself I could do it. It did feel good when I finally did finish because Insanity was not easy for me.

As a Sentinel player, I can tell you that class will give you the confidence to face down anything. Generally, when fully upgraded, the Tech Armor will have cooled down by the time you need to hit the triangle button again. lol, I play on the Xbox, so I had to think what button does it on the PS3.

Play style does have a lot to do with the difficulty scale. I personally do not find insanity to be insanely easy or ****** easy as some may put it, especially Object Rhio survival fight. But then I dont hide behind a cover 50feet away from the enemy like a chicken most of the time shooting targets with the insanely overpowered Mattock or use the Locust then yell "EASY!". If difficulty is scaled according to campers, well... it will be boring.

Insanity in ME2 is very well done imo. It allows the player to aggressively attack the battlefield and you can survive out of cover long enough with 3 enemies attacking you. One mistake and you could be dead. It would be insanely boring if Insanity forces the player to play defensively. Fights like Object Rhio with enemies flanking you and forcing you out of cover would be the perfect difficulty - just need to remove those safe spots where players can camp forever.

But from what I am seeing in ME3, a multi level battleground and enemies with jump packs who can aggressively attack your position, the design itself has added a new dimension of difficulty, lets see how the AI works.

No offense meant by this but, seriously? You don't simply just remap what you do on the 360 and apply it to the PS3 controller?

For the original poster: Did you try playing the whole game using the powers HUD to freeze de game and aim during it?
Cause as a player who dislike shooters (and actually, I miss ME1 weapon skills which decided how accurate your shoot were in an more RPGish fashion than just random shooter), that's how I got through the game and it was perfectly fine.

Simmer down. I was just saying I almost said the Y button. I almost forgot the TC was on the PS3.

I hope they don't make Insanity too easy. I play on Insanity to because I love the challenge.

Looks like this topic is another one of some contention. I don't like the idea of turning the difficulty down to casual, but I will if I have to. When I'm unfamiliar with a games controls (like ME1), I play on Casual/easiest. Later playthroughs and sequels Normal, no higher. I play shooters online and off and can turn it up, but for some reason ME1&2 doesn't press that button with me. The squad is another reason for some of my apprehension in ME3. They put me in rage mode enough already on Normal. No way in hell would I put them in the meat grinder of Insanity mode. I now hear snipers are back and one of the devs promised "nasty surprises" for us in 3. In the voice of the volus who led us to Fade: "Oh, good."

you can cheat me2 too, and there will be ways to cheat in me3 too (of course the pc version).
It's not easy, you need to open the coalesced.ini file, rewrite some lines, recompile it. But in me2 technical support forum there should be posts on how to do it. Adding a tech armor to a soldier or assault rifle to infiltrator really helps, and i also like infinite ammo like in me1.

I never played Dragon Age, but Mass Effect isn't really that hard even on Insanity, or at least to me it's not. Seriously if you know what you're doing and you've played the game a lot it gets progressively easier each time you play it.

This. Squadmates were probably my biggest problem when playing Insanity on ME2. My squad makes some of the most retarded combat decisions so I don't know how they'll handle snipers in ME3. Not only do they get taking out of fights too quickly they also don't deal enough damage to be of any significant help unless you're using their powers. I understand squadmembers dealing less damage then the player on lower difficulties but I wish that restriction could be removed on the higher difficulties.

I actually thoroughly enjoyed ME2.. Playing as a Vanguard was hectic and yet strategic at the same time. If I felt reckless I relied on Shotguns and Charge. If I wanted to play more conservatively, I would switch to my other biotic abilities and my Pistol/Submachine Gun.

There wasn't anything that I couldn't tackle as a Vanguard. The last boss was a pain in the ass though. Took FOREVER...

Yes i use it all the time. it is a godsend. i have followed some advice and have found the biotic (adept) and sentenal to be completely different in gameplay. ie it is so much easier. its like night and day. i also got the geth shield boost for my sentenal character. havent gotten that far yet (start character last night/this morning) but i am going much faster than i normally do.

Unless it's Nintendo hard, ME3 won't be that bad. My only hope is that they make Insanity mean something other than "more tedious" gameplay.
