I agree on many points, V-rex. It doesn't look bad so much as it doesn't look Ashley. She always felt the most real and human of the Mass Effect females, and this transformation doesn't seem to respect that.

My first reaction when I saw the gameinformer scans was "alright cool, this will convert some non-fans." But why appease those who weren't interested in the first place? She was never ugly, quite the opposite, but now she appears to be biting the style of Miranda, the supposed pinnacle and perfection of the female body ... "supposed" being the key word.

All said, I am glad she's back.

Yeah, Ashley hasn't been "sexualized" at all. <_<

O RLY? The picture above is ancient. The newer model looks much better.

Of course, I'm all for this:

But even that armor is pretty tight.

While I'm not a fan of the catsuit armour, that pic of Ashley in black just looks unbelievably badass.

Bad style, looks more like some BDSM suit rather then combat armour.

Even more then the clothes, it's the hair.

When developers added the Herbal Essence pixel shine, Dean
*Cue Meg Ryan climax scream*
Compare her look to the ME1 dull black, no definition lunchlady hairbun, you can see that someone put a lot of love into her, hmm, hair.
At least they kept her nose. It looks like they sharpened her facial structure a bit

I don't mind the new armor(or BDSM suit if you will). As far as I know, being a specter is a solo job that requires doing a bunch of other things than shootouts in the open. While being in the alliance and with Shepard she was basically assigned to only two things, shooting the enemy and protecting those behind you (the tank in other words). When your main job is to stay in the line of fire and soak up a ton of damage you don't necessarily need to move around a lot, so there is no reason to NOT use the sturdiest armor you can find, heavy and clunky though it might be.
However, as a specter, you are practically a 00-agent. Sure, there is a lot of fighting in this profession, but there are also investigations, infiltration jobs, work where being a walking fortress isn't always a good thing. Maybe her new threads are made to catch enemies off guard, enemies not expecting a tough-as-nails soldier. Maybe she needs to be able to run very fast for a longer period without being weighted down, chasing smuggler bosses and the likes. Maybe she needs to be stealthy and quiet as minx in other situations

One thing people need to remember is that heavy armor isn't, and never was, part of Ashley's character. Being practical and good at her profession is. Using the plates was most practical in her previous line of duty, but now she needs both mobility, speed AND sturdiness.
Say what you will, but her new outfit is a fine compromise between armor and sex-appeal if you compare it to Miranda's work duds.
The armor is mostly un-plated, tight-fitting and thin, sure, but it is still armor and probably more robust than it appears. Maybe it has the latest shield generators hidden in it's shoulder pads.

Ashley's hair on the other hand....Meh! I'd prefer if her hair was tied up, which would be PRACTICAL!
COuldn't she at least use a hair clip or something?!?!

PS.
"Well, if Ashley's skimpy, light-armor is so practical, then why doesn't Kaiden wear lighter armor too, huh?!?!"
If you honestly care so much how Ashley looks, he's probably dead in your game by now ;-)

Y'know, it's okay for people to say they're cool with the outfit (and the other catsuits), but trying to justify them is where I draw the line. I can happily accept them, but when people are like yo kinetic barriers yo, just ... no. The outfits are impractical, they just look good.

And really, that's my only problem with Ash's new look.

Sex appeal = fine and dandy.

Sex appeal treated as more important than characterization in a game series that has some of the deepest and most human characters I've ever seen = JESUS CHRIST WTF ARE YOU PEOPLE DOING

Exactly. Got to rub Shepard's face in what he gave up after Horizon.

and the 'newer model' pictured above is actually the preorder bonus uniform. Which I greatly like. The other one is still the main outfit.

You know, it's possible for Kaidan to be one's second favorite character.

Just sayin'.

Edit. Ah, Ashley's dress. I'm sure I did some cut & paste to see what she looked like in Kaidan's armor, people seemed to think she looked cool. Then of course Casey Hudson thinks the Liara figurine looks cool, so I guess that's where every attempt at agreeing on something begins to fall apart.

I laughed out loud when I read the mobility excuse being asserted seriously :D I thought they were exaggerating when they did that women's armor video.

Its not the tightness of the armor, its the style. Even heavy armor in ME (well until ME3 that is, Garrus has some nice new armor) was pretty tight. Its more of how her new armor looks like a rubber suit you know? Her chest is exposed, her hair is down, and although I understand the need for high heels (its a technical issue after all) but when put on that outfit it just adds to my disdain you know?

Although I have to say with that pic you posted I wouldn't mind seeing her in a pony tail instead of a bun. :D

On board out of danger I'm all for people showing what they got. Nothing wrong with enjoying polygon curves, muscles, maleness and femaleness. But when they are professional frontline soldiers who have taking damage (or tanking in other words) as a important part of their role on the battlefield on the other hand I expect them to use heavy armour. Especialy if the heavy armour is as sexy as it often was in ME1.

Heavy armor is sexy. Don't see why people don't realize this. :P

Seriously though, whats so wrong with wanting the sexiness on the normandy, not on the battlefield?

Ashley is taking a crap.

I guess she just went to the wrong military academy. She should have gone to the one where they teach you how to fire a weapon.
