Well, you know, Samara's badass enough that she could probably fight an army of mercs naked and still win.  Also, religious/ceremonial figures don't necessarily dress practically.  Take this guy, for example:

Like I said, armor is better, but the cultural implications of Sam's gear may be more important than, say, defense against modern weaponry.

This is all wild speculation, mind you; the outfit as presented by itself in-game is kind of stupid.

I don't know, Cheez. Samara is a warrior monk and warrior monks tend to wear outfits that are easy to fight in. asari might have some sort of weird implication where figures of authority show off their boobs... but Vasir doesn't. and neither does asari councilor O_O

Warrior monks on Earth fight with their hands and feet.  Samara uses guns and biotics.  Why roundhouse kick a guy when you can space-magic him out a window?

The Council, and by extension the Spectres, are not a part of traditional asari culture, but the galactic one.  Matriarchs and Justicars, on the other hand, have very deep historical links with their parent species.

I can and will make excuses for this all day, even though I think Sam would be better in full combat armor, like a boss.

Didn't the dossier on Samara when she gives up her possessions say the only thing she has was her armor and a few weapons. Or did Samara say that to Shepard during on of their talks. I still think what Samara is wearing is a light armor, just with her boobs hanging out. Not that I mind.

She told Shepard.  The SB dossiers showed some of the stuff she gave away, strongly suggesting she walked away from an upper class lifestyle

And no one's saying that it's not a nice view.  It's just...that's not what armor is for.

I'd rather have exposed boobs than boobtastic chestplates, but that's because cleavage is somehow less absurd than fake metal boobs in my mind.  I really have no idea why.  *shrug* Guess I'm just weird, huh?

KESTRAL CHESTPLATE, ALL DAY, ERRY DAY.  HELL YES.

At least Samara is more covered up than Jack.  Boob strap anyone?  :bandit:  Maybe super strong biotics don't feel the need to have good armor.  Miranda isn't wearing any armor.  Just some skin tight jump suit.  I do like the AA2 armor for Miranda and it's funny to hear the asari Captain call her out for her outfit when she's wearing it.  It no longer fits.

I kind of wished I bought things online (which I utterly refuse to do) so I could get AAP2, because I like Miranda as a character and don't like that they put her in that outfit.

And yet, the horny teenagers must have their catsuits.

Really, the best solution here is for there to be options in-game so everyone can have them and nobody complains.

Well Kaidan got shafted in the ME2 opening by making him wear the same armor Ashley and Liara wore.

 yah, that was hilarious.

adept Shepard.   who is supposedly as strong as jack if not stronger.
every asari comando you come across.  Tela Vasir.  Liara.

see if all these super strong biotics, figures of authority etc wore consistent outfits in terms of coverage, I'd buy it.  but only select few get to show of their... assets.  at least Jacob is a latex counterpart to Miranda so its easier for me to excuse it with cerberus insanity.. and Thane needs his chest to be unconstricted.. (especialy in toxic enviroments O_O)

but we see asari being all over the place in terms of coverage.  and Kaidan, one of the stronger human biotics is heavily armored up.. while Ashley, a soldier... is not?

You know what? I could actually buy that. The Asari we've seen who are actually powerful figures by Asari cultural standards are Benezia, Samara and Aria, all of whom expose their cleavage.

The only wrinkle in this theory are the many Asari strippers, who expose themselves all the time, and Matriarch Aethyta, who dresses conservatively. Even then, you can make the argument that the strippers are deliberately attempting to look powerful, while Aethyta has all but forsaken her Martiarchal duties, due to the criticism (ie: "they laughed the blue of my ass") of her colleagues.

...

......and I just spent ten minutes critically analyzing blue boobs. :pinched:

And now you see the problem.

Although I'm not going to complain about Jack's boobstrap.  She's completely nuts that way.

Well, the strippers are appealing to drunk guys in bars.  That's non-asari tastes they're catering to.

I like that explanation cheese, and it helps me accept her cleavage. I just wish bioware could explore this more in the Asari general. We never really get to explore the culture of other species save through squadmates, who can hardly even describe it.

Liara and Tali in me1 for example.

Yeah, I really like hearing about that stuff.  Hopefully, we'll get more of it in ME3.

If not, the whole "learn more about alien culture" thing is one of the few reasons I'd support a Mass Effect MMO.

Its one of the things that I really dislike about the ME "lore". The aliens aren't actually all that alien -- they are just facets of human culture. Same goes with the damn planets in the game. With the exception of the Citadel and Earth, all of the alien worlds we go to are just different versions of cities on Earth -- or they seem to only have one purpose.

Illium is a stunning world, yes. But for all intents and purposes, it might as well be a giant NYC, or (as I got the impression) Courasant.

Tuchunka is just a giant wasteland of a planet. And while it's pretty bad ass that Wrex is uniting Tuchunka, its almost trivialized, because it feels more like he's unifying a small city or country than an entire planet.

I just want more in regards to how the galaxy functions. I'm tired of humans being as different from each other as they can be, but aliens all falling into human-based niches. You honestly expect me to believe that all turians join the military? Or that all batarians are assh0les?

As for Aethyta, I think we can all agree that she's not traditional.

Indeed and the weirdest part is that her sociopathic hedonist sex murderer daughter ends up wearing an actual military outfit that shows no skin. Talk about a major WTF.

And repeatedly insults her mother's outfit.

If Morinth continued to wear her commando uniform after recruitment I'd kill Samara in favor of her in all of my playthroughs.

Not all Batarians are ****s, but they do have a culture that is counter to our own. When such cultures clash, conflict is almost inevitable. Besides. we havn't even visited an area with Batarian citizens.

In regards to turians, I can believe it. Plenty of cultures had compulsery military service. Of course there will be exceptions and people who refuse to, but it doesn't refute the general culture. Did you also know the turians government hands out pamphlets that give instructions on making firebombs?

In any case, the turians are actually the most diverse history wise. The Turians had their own internal wars between colonies and then later the hiearchy. I can believe the turians cultue more than the other species, especially the Asari who became a galactic power in a few asari lifespans.

Sorry! You don't need a Twitter to read it, but I should have transcribed. Anyway, text reads:
Oh Ashley, why do you tease me with your long hair. I know you are still a soldier at heart.Love working with this lady

So it was complimentary, but look at that pic. Gun in hand, hair in eyes. That's logical.
