Wow, THAT'S a set of balanced options if I've ever seen one.  Soccer?  Or DEATH!!

Mm hmm. Would you play the game? If you survive you get 100 million dollars (or some other currency if you prefer).

No wait, you aren't playing. You son or daughter is playing. Or your favorite nephew. Or if you are altruistic as you probably like to believe you are then it is just some other kid. Maybe even a foreign kid. If the kid survives the game (well, actuallly there are multiple kids, aren't there?). If the game is run to its end and the mine never injures anyone then you win 100 million dollars.

Or you can choose to have the mine removed so the kids can play without risk of death but all you get is a warm feeling.

Then explain why Cerberus is trying to stop Shepard from rescuing the fertile Krogan female on Sur'Kash?

Currently there is no explanation but clearly Cerberus actions in ME3 as we have so far seen them are in complete contradiction with their actions and plans as they were laid out in ME2.

We'll find out come March because BW won't say now.

In your veiw, I don't see it that way.  I see it as TIM just wanted the Collector base.  Even Miranda which I would say is one of his top agents told him to stuff it.

Like Shepard said then.  What is stopping you from creating your own Reaper?

TIM was never to be trusted and I find it amazing that people actually do.  He lied to Shepard more than once.  You were right about one thing.  TIM spent billions on a tool  That is all Shepard is to TIM a tool to be used then thrown away.  Why people don't understand why TIM would want to kill Shepard makes me laugh.  Shepard was an asset, even Miranda says so and assets are used and toss aside when they are no longer useful.

I can't wait to confront the d-bag.  He won't live long if I get my way.

I agree, but this isn't one of those cases. We are already at war with the geth. We have seen war with the rachni and we have seen what the rachni can do to a complex and secure research outpost(s).

What is the worst case scenario, that the queen starts an interstellar war a few decades or centuries from now?

How likely is that?

What about this, what if another bad scenario, even if it isn't the worst one, is just that she unleashes her offspring on Noveria and escapes in the confusion, destroying the colony? You'll have lost a great research and development base. Many great minds and lots of wealth will be lost, as well as hundreds of thousands of lives.

Is it still worth it to release the queen?

Nobody is keeping you here and you aren't adding anything to the discussion. It's like you are trolling or something.

Any thoughts on TIM, Aria, and/or Invasion you'd like to share?

If not, then, well... the door.

The circumstances are utterly different. The Wars were started by us trespassing in rachni territory, and were characterized by being unable to communicate with them. Neither holds true now. I don't believe I can deem the risk to be sufficient to take action that drastic.

TIM discusses needing the Quarians,Vorcha,Geth and Krogan in his notes in ME2.

Yeah, he advocates pushing for peace between the quarians and geth and he supports curing the genophage.

A desert with a mine buried in it?

But seriously, aside from ****ing and moaning about every little aspect of game X, debates like these are arguably the best part of any BioWare game.

Oh my goodness. You are a true rachni apologist aren't you? We didn't trespess on their territory, we merely discovered it. That's like justfying shooting somebody because they discover the fence surrounding your yard.

You aren't doing the rachni any favors here.

There is no reason the rachni could not have communicted thousands of years ago the way they do now. They certainly would have had ample opportunity during the ware. They simply choose not to because they didn't need to until the krogan arrived and once the krogan were on the scene they were up against an enemy with no interest in a peaceful resolution. (assuming the rachni were even interested in one).

The rachni started that fight, they were the sole cause of their destruction.

Never mind that though. That has little to do with the queen. We do not kill her because of her nature. We do not know her nature. We only know her capabilities, and they are awesome and dangerous. Too dangerous to be turned loose.

Spotting it and caring about it are two different things.  I'm going for the ride that the writers are giving us.  Instead of ****ing about it.  There is bad writing every where in ME2.  I don't feel the need to go off about it and make excuses for things I don't like.  It is what it is.  What is said and done in game in canon.  You can head-canon it different if you want.  That's fine.  But don't act  like your head-canon is actual canon.  It is not and neither is mine

Guess you missed what Miranda actually said to TIM at that point.  "After seeing what went on here, keeping it would be an act of betrayal."  TIM didn't see what was going on.  He just got a report from EDI.  Seeing what was going on and reading about it are two very different things.  TIM didn't care about the colonist, all he care about was the base.  Nothing more nothing less.  Even a NON-loyal Miranda says the same thing.

Cerberus was an enemy in ME1 and again in ME3.  That is something YOU will have to deal with.

That and TIM looks funny on the cover.  It's an improvement on the desperate boobie grab, at least:

Omega is gone! TIM has achieved in one swoop what Archangel failed to for months. The galaxy just became a much better place. The Terminus Systems are now 60% safer. The Alliance now can enter them and protect the humans who live there from the Reaper invasion without being terrified of starting a war.

TIM gets +40 Paragon points. Omega Nebula's star changes color to blue. *raises glass* This is a reason for celebration.

 The look on Aria's face! "Don't **** with Aria." Where's your aplomb now, little thug?

And I love how satisfied TIM looks. He's settling into his new villainous image nicely, I see. It's not often that he's permitted a moment of success. No wonder he's so gleeful. It's also good to see that he doesn't look like a husk. Maybe he's not indoctrinated, after all.

Yes, every time Paragon Shepard lets a terrorist go free or a galaxy eating sentient starship, or blows up our best chance to understand and defeat our enemy, she is risking the lives of others to satisfy her own consience.

TIM, or President Obama, or a General, does not risk lives for their own well being, but for the wellbeing of greater causes. You know, things like an entire species, or an army, or a nation.

If you think the President would be a better President if in addition to being President he had serve as a foot soldier full time then you need to grow up. We keep our leaders away from the battlefield because it helps them to better lead. Leaders have no place at the head of an army where they may be killed and all of their carefully laid strategies squandered by a stray bullet or missile.

Grow up.

I daresay Sovereign felt the rachni had no need to talk to their enemies. Certainly there's no records of any communication being made with them.

Well, being turned loose isn't optimal, but neither was the situation. Her offhand death based solely on her capabilities was both unacceptable and unnecessary.

Maybe.  My favorite part about the forums is when I read something that makes me realize something I hadn't noticed before.  Sometimes, I can get that from a debate, but I'd rather skip the animosity that usually comes with it.

I'm not grumpy, I'm just being matter of fact.

Regarding Invasion, I won't be reading it. I don't like comic books. I will be interested in learning what the plot was as well as how it was resolved. In addition, I will want to see how established characters are handled.

The artwork is... sometimes nice, othertimes ugly, and other times just goofy.

TIM was concerned with more than just the collector base in ME2. For example, in the mission complete reports his support for curing the genophage (so that the Krogan are more willing to fight the reapers) is revealed as well as his support for peace between the quarians and geth.

Also, whether he cared or not about the colonists is impossible to judge (we know very little about TIM's motives). Saying that, he still seems to regard the end of Mass Effect 2 as a victory even if the collector base was destroyed, and Cerberus funnel money and aid to Horizon through their front companies following the collector attack.

Do you think Admiral Hackett sat in an office somewhere on Arcturus Station while the 5th Fleet attacked Sovereign?  How much do you think the bullet that hit Cpt. Anderson hurt when he was lifting the lockdown on the Normandy?

How full of scotch was TIM's glass when he sent Shepard blind into a situation he knew could prove fatal with the "disabled" collector ship?  How comfortable was his chair when was ordering Shepard to preserve the collector base?

Plenty of people - both in this world and in the Mass Effect universe - are willing to put their own asses on the line for what they believe in, not just others.

I'm fine debating this issue with you, but cut it out with the personal attacks or you're gonna get reported.

Of-course not because the rachni had no desire or need to communicate with the Council. They were winning, remember?

Regarding Sovereign there is zero evidence that he had anything to do with it. Or any Reaper. In fact what little evidence there is indicates he was totally uninvolved because if he had been he'd have known where to find the Mu relay.

Xilizhra wrote...

It was not unacceptable nor was it unnecessary considering the choices presented. It was... undersirable because as you said it was not an optimal situation. I'd have preferred to just keep her in contaiment and let the Council deal with it. (I'm sure they'd be thrilled)

However if I must choose to set loose friendly smallpox or eradicate friendly smallpox I will eradicate it. The dangers are just too great. It is a tragedy, because it might have been guinely friendly smallpox, but I won't risk unleashing smallpox on the world again.

Xilizhra wrote...

Nope. Paragon Shepard too often thinks about only himself in the conext of his major decisions.

"I don't operate that way."

"I don't do things that way."

"I'm setting him free."

"I wont let fear compromise who I AM."

Where is the talk about other people?

Renegade talks about other people.

"Yes, I could have, but then he might have done this to another colony, or a dozen."

"The project needs him..."

"You were protecting galactic stability."

"What were the likely results of a krogan resurgence?"

"There's no guarantee the Heretics won't revert, is there? We have a chance to end this, I won't waste it."

"I won't sacrifice human lives to save the Council." (misguided priorities but still thinking of how this decision will affect others)

"Sometimes you give orders knowing that your people are going to die. That can't affect your decisions."

"The burden of command is a reality faced by all soldiers...."

"We'll help Kolyat if we can, but if we don't stop the Collectors a lot more lives than just one will be in jeopardy."

"You're right, she's too dangerous to set free..."
