WARNING: IF YOU START BEING RUDE ON THIS THREAD, STAN WILL SHUT IT DOWN IN NO TIME. ALL I WANT IS LORE DISCUSSION TO SEE WHAT EVIDENCE WE HAVE OF THE TRUE POWERS IN THEIDAS. STAY CIVIL!!!!

Ok so we have the Chantry - the metaphorical evangelical christians turned femenist who send missionaries all over and preach of salvation by Andraste and Maker

~ Then there are Dalish who worship the old gods and nature

We can discount dwarves for the discussion because ansestors are ansestors.

But seriously though, we've been given ambiguous info on whether the Maker even exists or the chant of light is true. I love that because the game/books is not adopting an official religion so to speak.

On the other hand, Darkspawn do indeed hear the call, Archdemons do indeed rise up from being buried, darkspawn do indeed seem like those cursed Tevinter mages, so there are hints to suggest that the DA monotheistic religion may be true.

Do Dalish gods really exist?

Did Maker really make the world and lesser gods?

Is there a hint that nature and science run its course in DA and Magic is the only thing that exists - not any Bible-like Makers?

I'm not sure I agree with your comparison of the Chantry to "metaphorical evangelical christians turned feminist." That sounds fairly negative off the bat...or rather, has potential negative undertones (maybe it was your word choice there vs how the other religions were mentioned). The Chantry is akin to Christianity in some ways, yes, but not necessarily the evangelical movement (which, in its modern application, does not have the same gender constraints as would have been seen 100 years ago).

All that aside, I don't think we know enough yet to determine if any one religion is true. I'm inclined to think that the Dalish may follow the closest thing to what may have ignited or influenced life in the DA-verse. And I see the Maker as more of an amalgalm of older deities, or at least aspects of them.

But I think time will tell. I doubt we'll get the full story - probably more like more clues to confirm/deny what we have already been witness to.

The only religion that matters is the one with the guns.

It's just like in the real world. So many religions, but which one is the "true" or "correct" one? No one really knows: it all comes down to personal belief.

Legacy pretty much confirms the Chantry's explanation of the first blight and the darkspawn. It doesn't mean that the Maker exists, though the Chantry didn't just make up lies to subjugate the mages. That has given me a different viewpoint on the Chantry while playing through Origins again, even as a mage.

I'd like to think there's really a maker. It's the in-game religion that most appeals to me. Other than that, I do not know. The Qun isn't really a religion

I like to think they're going to keep the whole thing ambiguous for the entire run of the saga.

Isabella is her own religion because she carries a pair of big guns on her chest.

Well, not exactly. We're a step closer to having the Chantry's version as truth, but it's also more or less confirmed the Chantry lied about certain details, no?

I think it would be foolosh of the developers to answer your question, even if they know the answer.

It's hard to get into it in the no spoilers forum. There was nothing from Legacy that would make me think the Chantry lied about anything. It would seem like perhaps there's something more to the Golden City's story but I wouldn't fault the Chantry for not knowing about it or coming up with the story they have from what they know. Indeed, the Chantry's account would seem to be mostly accurate.

The Dalish Creators seem kind of shallow at first glance. A pantheon of gods just for Elves that taught them how to hunt and weave? It's the enemy gods and being duped into eternal entrapment that is most interesting to me. Forgotten Ones = Old Gods? Did the Old Gods, forgotten by the Elves turn to humans instead? Humans in turn rise to power eventually destroying Arlathan and doing their best to destroy Elven history and religion. Still, it doesn't explain Dwarves or Qunari or really even Humans for that matter. There's also unanswered questions about what would seem to be Elves and Humans cohabitating as was evidenced in Origins

I would guess that the Chantry, the Dalish, and possibly the Dwarves each have a piece of the puzzle but still not enough between them to get the full picture. Maybe the Maker as the Chantry knows it is Fen'Harel, maybe it's something else. Not a definitive answer I know but we're not meant to have one.

Havens Cult of Andraste is the best religion. Nothing like worshiping Andraste Reborn who, in the words of Sten, is a giant lizard.

If Leliana is the reincarnation of Andraste.. then the Chantry wins by default.

But what is the one true religion has yet to be revealed? Or rather...it's been there in front of us all along, but not named or declared.

I am, of course, talking about the Great Cheese God!! His influence is everywhere!
