I don't know about the rest of the world but games by Bioware have certainly made a mark here in my country even if it's not big. Considering that piracy and buying original games is something huge in the first case and very rare in the latter, I know many people that have bought Mass Effect 1,2, KotoR and Dragon Age 1 original including myself. That fact on it's own speaks a lot.

EA payed millions for a Super Bowl spot for ME2 (supposedly) and I guarantee you of all the people that watched the Super Bowl last year, only a handful of people remember the ad.

"Supposedly" is right:  it was Dante's Inferno.  ME2 had an ad placed during the NFC Championship.  There was a parody by Machinima, presented as a leak of the iPad Super Bowl commercial, that included a brief, doctored clip of TIM chilling with one.

Currently, no Mass Effect has not taken over the world. Sorry

However it does have a lot of potential to do so!

My biggest problem with this article is it lacks any objectivity. It tells you in the first sentences that Mass Effect is the most awesome thing since Pac Man and then goes on to support its position while glossing over the fact that there were some serious complaints about the game when it game out.

I thought Mass Effect 2 was a fantastic game, and was one of the few people in those early days who felt the combat changes were beneficial to the experience, but I'm not going to say it changed the way I looked at computer games or defined a genre for me. (Kotor, I think, defined that kind of crpg for me)

This isn't the thread to list the ways I felt ME2 could have been better, or how it might have lacked something compared to its predecessor. ME3 isn't even my most anticipated game of the next year, but it is certainly high on my radar.

Mass Effect 2 was not a "perfect fusion of all good things in games", but it was a great game I still play two years after it came out ... so in that regard, it was certainly a success.

No..... why? becouse its a side effect of the "awesome button theory", after me1 i really was waiting for me2, after the latter im not waiting me3, if i would like a shotter ill play bf2, the same goes with da, after the first there was an "awesome effect" and bam!... now not waiting for da3, im now waiting for Skyrim, Dark Souls, D3, SC2 HOS....., i will play me3 but im not waiting like i did, and after da2 i will not preorder and wait and see the reviews, and no "they r different teams...bla,bla,bla" they share the same company name, and if a part of it have a success all the company wins, and that work on the inverse, i hope u understand why the "no" response...

To answer the question, Chris, no.

No, Mass Effect hasn't taken over the world.

This is another half-preview of what's coming and while it contains a couple of mildly pertinent pieces of information, it seems more aimed towards making sure CVG reviewers get review copies rather than truly analyzing Mass Effect's success.

It's a puff piece. I have good hopes for Mass Effect, and hope that EA will take the lessons of "Longer development time = better games = more engrossing game settings = more money" to heart, but that depends on Mass Effect 3 actually being a better game. And we won't know until its released.

No.

I just had a family meeting with 36 relatives, aged between 4 and 80. None but me even knew the name.

 No.
Where are the action figures?  Monthly comic? NOT MINI.  Where's the Krogan Quad cereal, WITH marshmallows?  Or Quarian blankets?  Seriously, though, I'm serious about the first two.  I WANT to give you my money, Bioware, but you just aren't giving me the opportunity.  The ME wallet and abandoned figure line is the closest you've come to being more than just a video game to me (sorry, comic tie-ins are no longer that special).

Increase your marketing, do well on the movie, try new merchandise, increase availability of your clothes to stores (other than the standard ME2 shirt at the rare Hot Topic) and try to branch out in a more sustainable time table (the absent animes???) for diffrent media.
Please.  :wizard:

Aside from Star Control 2, Mass Effect is probably my favorite Scifi verse now. Star Wars used to be too until Georgie went and ruined it with his awful prequels. Still like Kotor tough.

Tread carefully tough, this can change, just like with Lucas. Don't screw ME up.

It has some of the most memorable and lovable characters in it. That's what I love the most, so its taken over my world in caring for them.

The negativity in this thread makes me want to throw up. Have you no hype? o_O

However, I do think something very interesting is going to happen on March 6, something that will probably result in a lot of sick days and class absences.

I have a feeling I'll cough up some Reaper sickness, indeed

It's a well-coordinated game. And so far the developers have been damned effective <3

I have a feeling it will be a really great game myself. For once I'm actually hyping myself for it. And I don't hype myself for games often because to be honest if you set yourself up to always expect disappointment then you get even more pleasant surprises (in my experience.)

EDIT: That said though, you can't be too negative when expecting disappointment...or you'll be over critical and you won't enjoy games as much as you could even if they are great...

ME2 killed my hype for ME3.
I want an RPG/shooter not a SHOOTER/with no rpg elements in it.
I played though ME over 15 times, ME2 ONCE! I still have a side mission or 2 to do i think.

Just saw a new article from CVG asking why Mass Effect has taken over the world. Check out the article here.

Do you think Mass Effect has taken over the world?

Haha, hah ha haah hahh *Wheeze*  HaHa  haH...

Oh...

You were being serious.

It's not even remotely close to taking over the world.

If it was, there would have been no need to "streamline" *gag* the elements that made ME1 : the best game Bioware has ever made, and turn it into ME2 : the worst.

I´d like to know as well what Chris thinks about it =D

I am surprised that there are some people who know about the game, but I wouldn´t overestimate it´s importance..just yet. With the movie and the 3rd game coming, I hope this will change, and that more people will become aware of Mass Effect!

I thought ME1 and ME2 both had their strong points. The former was definitely the story (the gameplay was a bit ... clunky) but while ME2's story in comparison was a bit disappointing it was light years ahead in gameplay; in ME2 I can do a completely mundane side mission where I've just got to kill guys and the fact that the combat is so fun is what makes me even bother to do that mission.

Plus I'm pretty happy with the RPG elements in the game, stripping the inventory down was probably for the better since we ended up having a gazillion pointless items of vendor trash, and I mean in ME1 there were just three armour appearances (heavy, medium, light) but then in ME2 we actually get to alter our appearance with even more things, hell we even get to modify each individual part of our body rather than just switching through full body sets.

Did you read the bit about ME1 sales vs ME2 sales?  The world disagrees with your opinion.
