It has taken over my world, and it should have taken over more of the world than it has. I mean if ME2 is not worth 10 million sales then I don't know ...Chris Priestly wrote...
Just saw a new article from CVG asking why Mass Effect has taken over the world. Check out the article here.
Do you think Mass Effect has taken over the world?

Haha, hah ha haah hahh *Wheeze* HaHa haH...
Oh...
You were being serious.
It's not even remotely close to taking over the world.
If it was, there would have been no need to "streamline" *gag* the elements that made ME1 : the best game Bioware has ever made, and turn it into ME2 : the worst.
Another hater

Then it is taking it back in March. Don't get me wrong I am very excited about Skyrim but ME 3>all. Been anticipating ME 3 for years.

Good thing you're views are only an opinion because I would hate for Mass Effect 2 to be the worst game BioWare ever made.Orkboy wrote...

For me it was their best game and I loved KOTOR, ME 1, and DAO

I think ME2 is their best game too, closely follwed by ME1. Although I should add that the only other Bioware game I've played is KotOR - great game, but I only played it recently and it hasn't aged brilliantly.jreezy wrote...

Imagine what KOTOR would have been like with today's technology. If they ever did make a KOTOR 3 (which seems doubtful at this point) it would take over the world.

My problem with playing KOTOR now that I don't have a Xbox is the way it runs on Xbox 360. There's hiccups in the game whenever I talk to someone so the dialog keeps cutting out. That's probably the only thing wrong with the game for me.

ME is certainly a fantastic franchise and I love it. It has taken up a lot of my time, I'll say that.
Now Star Wars, that took over the world and even changed it, literally.
This, while Mass Effect is certainly a fantastic series of games and has done ALOT for the gaming world, it is no Star Wars. However Bioware does seem to have the habit of creating games that set standards, just look at DA: Origins. Bioware is creating two o fmy most anticipated games that come out within the next year, ME3 and SWTOR. I even got my wife into both of them and she hates shooter type games.

It probably has more do with LucasArts. They wanted to go the way of the MMO so they and Bioware decided to turn it into an MMO, now I admit I am seriously considering the MMO but I am not an MMO guy and I have never played an MMO in my life.

I wish ANYONE would make KOTOR3.
..but on Star Wars. What the hell ever did happen to the brilliance of Lucasarts?

As one of the previous forumites put it, "It hasn't changed the world, but it changed MY world". Regardless of how many millions of units it sells, it's influenced and inspired other developers in future products. More direct examples like alpha protocol(or the lesser known rise of the argonauts) take direct inspiration, using a more cinematic take with conversational and combat systems.
On the other hand, there are less obvious, but still notable examples of games taking inspiration as well. Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty employed research & conversation elements in a normandy-esque structure between each individual mission. It's a fair guess that blizzard took notice of the little action RPG that could.
What game can change the world? Can any? Mario is likely the most popular, best-selling, and most recognizable video game franchise in history. Has it necessarily changed the world? I'll leave that up to you, as the thread continues to chug along. It's destined to keep going. Not like we have much else to do.

Since this thread is still up, I may as well add a more detailed answer than "stamp on the industry".

Years ago, Black & White received high praise from critics, giving it incredible reviews, calling it one of the finest games ever produced. 5 years later, those same critics were quite literally apologizing for it in their articles. That ME2 was influential in the slightest is a massive assumption.
Especially since both designers and programmers are highly critical in nature. The braindead AI, the numerous contradictions, likely made much more of an impression than anything else. When you're talking about a group of people who pride themselves on the framerate their menu screen achieves, you don't want to be handing them AI from the 90's and gaping plot holes. Their takeaway isn't going to be the same as Average Joe's.
It's even less likely that Blizzard chose to mimic ME2. Their system is different in implementation, and has existed in rudimentary form for quite some time. It's just an extension of their unit upgrade system taken to a Player layer.
You're also mistaking ME2's conversation system as something new, it's a derivative of the converstation systems used by Adventure games for many years. ME2 really didn't bring anything new to the table, Wing Commander 3 used something pretty similiar in the mid 90's.
What game can change the world? Mario series, Myst, Angry Birds, numerous arcade games. They made gamers out of non-gamers, and that changed the world.
ME series could have, by being the first series ever to have a player customized story arc across a trilogy, but ultimately EA seems to have killed the innovation in favor of sales, because they feared losing sales to "But I didn't play the first two!" instead of realizing it would've increased sales. Now it's just yet another entry in the annals of "Me too! Me too!"
