Mass Effect definitely did grow in popularity but until it has launches like Halo 2 and 3 I'm not going to say it has taken over a country yet less the world.

You've been a forumite long enough to know the rules! Inevitably, every thread is invaded by the crowd of successful writers, video game designers and entrepeneurs who all know how to make a better game than Bioware. They will insult the game and its fans (usually drawing from an extensive library of complaints ranging from "not rpg enough" to "Skyrim is so much better"). Then they will proceed to agree with one another, usually using the "it's just constructive criticism" defense before launching a diatribe of melodramatic nonsense punctuated with: RIP Bioware 1996-2007.
Get with the program Kotor!!!
And when the soup tastes bad, do you hang around the restaurant all day, telling the happy customers what idiots they are and how you know what makes good soup despite never cooking a day in your life?

Oh...
You were being serious.
It's not even remotely close to taking over the world.
If it was, there would have been no need to "streamline" *gag* the elements that made ME1 : the best game Bioware has ever made, and turn it into ME2 : the worst.

hehe...first thing I thought of when I read Chris' post.
Sure, it's a pretty good series but damn people.

No need to wait. Halo 4.MasterShepardN7 wrote...
Yes and no. It is for the fans, however it's more fan focused and not really all over the media. I give props to Halo on that one. That and I also believe either ME3 or Halo 4 will have the biggest launch for 2012. We'll just have to wait and find out.

Halo will get bigger numbers but not because it is a better game or anything. As I said in an earlier post Mass Effect takes more commitment to play than Halo. The Halo franchise is centered around the multiplayer experience meaning you could fire up the xbox play a few multiplayer matches for about 40 minutes or so and then turn it off. Mass Effect on the other hand requires you to invest more time in your game as you play as your Shepard. My average ME 1 run takes me 30 hours (give or take a few) and my average ME 2 run is close to 50 (DLC included) and I am guessing ME 3 will at least be another 30. That is well over 100 hours per Shepard some people just don't have that kind of time to invest in a game series. I think of the two Halo is more accessible but Mass Effect is more rewarding (for me at least).

Yes, because most shooters have three-member parties with two who are chosen from a selection of 12 possibilities, biotic and tech powers that can be upgraded after leveling up from gaining XP, extensive dialogue trees with squadmates and with NPCs in hub areas, a combat-free "home base" to which you regularly return, romances, save importing, etc.

It's the bigger franchise, simple as that.

Pfff. Only 50 hours. 60 hours with only Arrival and LOTSB, beat that!

You do have to invest a lot of time into Mass Effect to beat it but not to play it. I've been playing the first Mass Effect in short burst lately, just like playing Halo multiplayer matches.
