I liked the hammerhead style levels. I don't really care for the vehicle either way, but the hammerhead handled better, so the control scheme should translate.

The Hammerhead levels felt to gamey to me. I'd rather have an actual square mile of rocky planet over the pod race competition circuit.
And the Mako was much more fun to handle around.

I liked the mako when it was used for missions like Virmire, but the sandbox planets were ridicilous in their terrain. Like driving a hummer up Mt Everest. I played on PC and the controls weren't great but got used to them after a while.

The maps were technically designed as environmental puzzles. If you don't just bee-line it at 80 degrees up the steep incline in front of you, you can drive around and fine side roads leading up to wherever the mission is.

I think, anyway, based on my last ME1 playthrough.

The only one that had roads other then the core missions was the ones involving the geth outpost in 4 clusters.
There are plenty of side missions involving Cerebus and etc that have bases atop high peaks with no 'side roads'.

I'm pro vehicle, I'm sure a lot of people here know Unreal Tournament 3, there is a mode where you can control all sorts of vehicles (Onslaught) and its so much fun. Would I want UT3-style vehicular combat in Mass Effect 3? Yes!

Gameplay example of UT3's vehicles

I had more fun driving the Mako then the Hammerhead but i would prefer something better then them. They're not exactly the most fun vehicles to drive

Leaning towards nay. If they do give us vehicles, it has to be REALLY well-implemented. I don't just want vehicles because someone thinks there should be vehicles. It's a common design flaw to put something in there without really doing it properly, just so you can say it's there.

Yes, I'd love to see the vehicles return, ME1's Mako and ME2's Hammerhead both had flaws, but third time's the charm.

Nay! Don't like them.

The Hammerhead was optional, so that was ok, but hated that I was forced to drive the Mako in almost all missions in ME 1.

I hated both the Mako and the Hammerhead. I'll put up with it, but I hate driving in games. If I had to pick one to slog around in, it would be the Mako.

@OP

I liked the mako, sure the controls were a little wonky but serviceable...I didn't like the inability to be more accurate with the cannon w/o being on the same level as mobs. Exploration was alot more sandbox in ME1 a big plus, sure the hammerhead handled better but all those levels were too linear.

No. Mako was awful. Hammerhead was awful. LotSB taxi was awful. I see a pattern here. Stop it, BW, please.

Only if it's the mako, I'm in the camp that bad level design hurt the mako but for me I didn't have any issues with controlling on my 360 you needed to know its limits (like, it can't go up a 90 degree mountain for instance) and then you find ways around it (look for an easier part of the mountain that goes up steadily and take larger, steeper hills at an angle) the only time I had issue with it was when I pushed it to get over those rocks in Liara's mission and that was because the mako wasn't even suppose to be in there.

The toy bunny hopper we got for 2 was ridiculous and this time it was the machine more and less of the environment that thing is still lame no matter what you're piloting it on because it's not a serious war machine my enemies laugh when they see it not try to dig in or find a hiding spot..

I know I'm probably alone here...

But cockpit view + Mako + airdrop from 50,000ft = wet pants

Make it happen.

I liked the mako until I played ME1 on PC. That being said I want more exploration. It could benefit from a little realism. Even if a planet has two outpost it makes sense that there is a road connecting them. Even if that road is nothing more than tire tracks. There is no reason we would always land in some kind of expansive low mountain range. How about some canyons? How about some craters?

Piloting a spaceship though is not a marines job. Navy folks like joker can do that. Besides realistically piloting a spaceship is complex enough to make that whole laser guided bomb thing look like a walk in the park.

I don't have a problem with either vehicle. It just bothered me a bit that the areas to drive in just amounted to an obstacle course for either vehicle. I'd like to see some levels you can explore for exploration sake.

Well. Woo closed my exploration forum stating that we could discuss vehicles here, but that isn't what the topic was, just a few comments were on the Mako. Anyways, I don't want the linear vehicle levels from ME2, I want an improvement on the open nature of ME1 exploration. I love seeing a new planet and looking up at a stunning sky or finding an artifact on a planet with a green sun.

Nobody wanted a lack of numerous open planets, we just wanted more to do in a better vehicle, but we loved the idea of a ton of open plains to ride across and find cows and protean artifacts. If that isn't happening BioWare, just say so now. Don't lead us on with hope for the openness of ME1 if that kind of exploration isn't there.

Seriously, some of those planets in ME1 were an absolute joy to venture around it with the "massive" moons that were orbiting the panets that you could see the rich detail, loved those...made me stop and actually take in the planet I was bumming around on.  ME2 was more or less get in, get the job done, get out.

Yeah. With a ground texture and a sky texture (!!) those ME1 planets really spoiled us.

I still credit ME1 as the game that has most changed me. I have been obsessed with space ever since seeing those places and seeing that nice and sleek future in space (unlike ME2 and ME3 who want to be "dark" so they give us mostly dirty dark places loaded with shady market dealers and evil dealings). I cant believe I let myself fall so in love with the idea that BioWare was going to keep improving the exploration and then I get heartbroken finding out that I wont get that at all. I even have money I am saving up for the Virgin commercial space flights. I thought those planets were so beautiful and inspiring. And I never complained about the Mako, and certainly no one said they should drop open worlds entirely over the Mako.

Please BioWare. If there is no chance of this coming back, let me know already. It is really tough waiting for a simple "No ME1 open exploration. More like ME2 linear." Or say, "No vehicle exploration." Just let me know already.

Yeah. With your letters on the computer screen, you are so valuable too. Belittling to that level is childish. You could at least be more accurate.
