Anders and Merrill and Isabella are awesome. Fenris sucks (he stays with Isabella but does Hawke once and then dumps him/her, omgwtf Bioware ugh).

<3 ma pirate and apostate and elf guuurl theyre the awesomest <3

And thank you for letting us be homosexual too. Being a gay/lesbian character is epic awesome (my male Cousland in Origins was strictly gay, which made some things much more interesting.)

END.

The Fenris romance doesn't actually end when he leaves you. It can be started again in Act 3.

Doesn't matter to me though. Friendship Merrillmance is the only romance for me.

Maybe not to you but to him it does. He said it was all too much and he was scared so he ran off.

It could never work between you both. After all you wear shoes and he doesn't. The divide is too great to be overcome.

I didn't even realize until my 2nd or 3rd Fenris LI playthrough that he "leaves", because he never actually did. I was still able to take him in my party, so I was none the wiser.  I had no idea that was even the case until I read it on BSN (damn you, BSN!!!) You'd think that if Fenris left, he'd be greyed out in the companion selection screen or something. Regardless, why this is a big deal is beyond me. /yawn

....You do realize that Merrill Friendship is like saying "here you go kitten, all the blood magic you'd ever want!"

If you're going to romance Merrill, do her a favor and go Rivalmance. Besides, its totally hot when she says "Don't rescue me!" right before you kiss her. *nod*

Also, at the end of the day?

Totally Fenris.

I have a hard time going for anyone but Anders. If I do, it's Merril. Love them mages. ;)

Her knows what her's doing.

I will not be convinced otherwise, Serrah.

Being a fanatical Anderstian myself, I never thought I'd one day defend Fenris but... it actually makes a lot of sense. *Especially* after going so far physically. Humans (and elves, for that matter) are deeply irrational beings. We get scared by or own actions and emotions and then we tend to just... bunk. I loved it when he left. It was obvious that he would come back, and I enjoyed anticipating the *angst* of that eventual return.

Fenris romance all the way for me. At the end of the day it is the most satisfying (IMHO)

Sorry, had reading comprehension issues and didn't quite understand what you meant by that until today.

Yes, it's true that most people do wind up breaking up with the people they have sex with at some point. Most people usually don't do it immediately, though.

Sure, it does make sense, considering the issues Fenris has with intimacy, but a lot of people aren't willing to remain celibate for 3 years, waiting for the guy to unclench enough to talk about it. Yes, Fenris does have personal issues that keep him from speaking of it. All I'm saying is that a lot of people... a lot of Hawkes... would rather just move on rather than wait for something that might never happen. Sure, we all know that if Hawke is chaste the entire time, Fenris will eventually come around, but our Hawkes don't know that.

This is just the way I play it, but my Hawke is drawn to his intensity. They have some issues, but he hopes that they can work them out in time. Fenris's departure confuses him and causes rejection issues, but eventually, he gets over it. Were there no other LIs in the game, he would probably welcome Fenris back with open arms, but there are other LIs in the game. Since Anders is a less tumultuous match for him anyway, he decides to move on.

This, in spades.  All for that kiss when he tells you not to die on him!  Hey, he had me at "Hawke" in that growly voice.

That's the way my Hawke was thinking. Anders offered comfort when she was hurting/confused. And I love Anders response when Hawke tells him Fenris left her. Posted ImageBut, Fenris has become protective of Hawke, because my favorite banter between Anders and Fenris ends with Fenris telling Anders, "If you break her heart, I'll kill you!" Posted Image

really disliked isabella, which came as a surprise to me because i thought i would like her so much before the game came out. =/

i mean i borderline hate her. that bad. i went from defending her against all the misogyny she attracted before the game came out to playing a rivalry game just to hand her over to the arishok. i'm not quite there yet but i will be.

i really liked anders and fenris, and for a while i had no preference over either of the two as better but i think now i just have a slight preference for fenris; but i really appreciated anders actually taking the step to flirt with me first. it's nice to know that i don't have to do 100% of the work. just 99%.

and merrill, well she is sweet, but i don't know, i just feel like it's starting a romance with a child almost. i'm not talking about physically either, i just mean the way she carries herself sometimes. i can see the appeal of her though to many people - she just isn't really my cup of tea, or that of any of my PCs.

I've seen several of the romances now (Issy/Merrill/Fenris) - as well as DAO (Alistair addict and failed to romance Mori because I abandoned my M!Warden)...

And yeah. Fenris Friendmance all the way. <3

My canon Hawke has trust issues herself, in terms of who she lets get close to her emotionally (and physically, as a side effect). To summarize her logic: The fact that Fenris is there for her after All that Remains and seems to still care about what Hawke needs when few others do goes a long way towards keeping her attached to him emotionally.

I freely admit that I'm an older player, though, who seriously values friendship in romance (I married my undergrad SO years ago and we were best friends for at least 2.5+ years before we started dating, so I'm biased). I guess that's another reason the 3-year gap doesn't bother me as much as it bothers some. If it's worth having and all that.

My first run through with Fenris as romance was definitely the best. Because my girl mage Hawke initially seemed to rival him, it took a long time for the friendship romance to develop, then most of Act 3 to get to the point where he would finally admit his former "mistake". It also made the encounter with Zevran a meaningful one because this occurred before the reconciliation and she deliberately flirted with Zev in the hope of getting a reaction from Fenris. When he warned off Zevran I couldn't help smiling because clearly he did still feel we were an item, despite what he had previously told Anders. The final scene when he begs me not to die even though I'm a mage and have sided with the mages was wonderful. Subsequent Hawkes, male and female, have tended to end up with Fenris (with occasional variations with Isabella and Sebastian) as this is my only consolation for the disappointment of the final resolution to the story - I may have failed to make much of a difference in every other respect but at least I get to ride off into the sunset with Fenris.

The reason Fenris will continue to sleep with Isabela is because emotions don't play a part in it. Their banters about their "relationship", if you want to call it that, suggest that it's just a convenient on going tryst between them. Perhaps it will change, perhaps not. I'm inclined to think that it'll be similar to Izzy's "relationship" with Zevran.

Fenris leaves Hawke because he feels vulnerable, and scared after they sleep together. That's because he truly cares about Hawke, and he doesn't know how to deal with his emotions for him/her. His feelings snuck up on him, and the fact that they're stronger than he originally thought scares the hell out of him. I'm pretty sure the memories he mentions are just an excuse, because he doesn't know what to do. They may have actually happened, but they're definitely not the reason he leaves Hawke.

I dont like the rival path with fenris,it just seems unfeasible if your a mage. Anders just irks me, I get the feeling he was using hawke as a means to an end.

Isabella seems sort of lacking in the commitment area. So its hard to consider her a true L.I,for me at least. I liked the L.I more in origins.
