Is Tales of the Sword Coast like Dragon Age: Awakening or does it expand the map of Baldur's Gates? In otherwords, can I have it installed while playing Baldur's Gate and then just continue on playing after the main game's plot is resolved?

I apparently hit the exp cap of 89,000. This kinda pissed me off a bit as I need 90,000 for the next level (lvl 8). I can't believe they did that! Why not just make it 89,999 to rub it in. Wondering if I can install it and keep leveling in Baldur's Gate main game. I'm in chapter 4 in the Cloakwood looking for Tazok and have no further reason to do anything off the beaten trail as all new exp is wasted.

Assuming ToTSC is like Awakening, when I import my character does it import the entire party? In otherwords, is it worth it to do quests and whatnot for their sake or do they reset to a default starting lvl/exp?

Tales of the Sword Coast adds 3 areas, and raises the experience cap to 161,000. When you beat the final boss that ends the game. Installing it should immediately raise the cap and you don't have to go to the new TotSC areas if you don't want to. You don't import your character, as the TotSC are all part of the same game world. You do not need to start over. The new areas offer more experience, and also some new loot. In Durlag's tower for instance a few nice things like cloudkill scroll and wisdom tome.

Are you saying ToTSC is like Bring Down the Sky for ME1? You have to complete it during the main game, not afterwards?

I not familiar with Bring down the sky for ME1. But I am saying that IF you want to explore TotSC areas, you need to do so before fighting the final boss. Most people explore ToTSC areas when the party is level 6 or higher. It's basically more content/loot, not expanding the adventure past the end like some Dragon Age expansions.

You can install the Tales of the Sword Coast add-inn expansion anytime and it'll mean that you immediately get the benefit of the new level cap i.e. the level cap will immedidately be raised to
161,000 points.

Tales of the Sword Coast is not like Awakening at all. It is more then alike to Bring Down the Sky; you have to play it during the main game e.g. before the final battle. I once did it (the first time I played Tales of the Sword Coast) after defeating the main game, BG1. I then had to go through the expansion, ToTSC, and do the final battle over again. It was really, really annoying....So every time after that, I've made sure to do the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion before the final battle. It makes most sense going to Ulgoth's Beard when you're level 5 or level 6. I think I usually does this after being captured by Angelo in Chapter five or six, and then being released again....

As I remember it the add-in expansion adds Durlag's Tower, Werewolf Island and another island. You can go there from within the BG game itself at anytime, I think? There's a map travel marker just left to the Baldur's Gate Bridge (where the ankhegs are) that lets you travel to Ulgoths Beard. I think, it is here you learn about Durlag's Tower?

If you have Jaheira who is a multi-class (or dual class character?) please remember that the experience is split between her classes, so it'll be 161,000:2=80,500 experience for both her fighter class and her druid class.

Be aware, though, that the final boss in ToTSC is a real pain in the Aec Latec.....and you'll need a good strategy to beat it....

If you use BGT, you can actually beat the final boss of BG1 and then do the TotSC areas, though of course, with BGT you need to install TotSC before starting the game.

It works either way.

If you completed the game, then installed TotSC, you would be sent off to one of the new areas, get to play through them, and then do the final battle of the main game again (but tougher).

If you install TotSC before or during a game, it add the new areas and you can visit them whenever you want. It also makes a few tweaks to the engine and rules, such as raising the XP cap.

You don't really import anything into TotSC the way you might into BG2 or ToB.

Note that if you want, you can quite easily get an XP cap raiser/remover mod which will let you level up higher. The game doesn't really support the very high levels (no spells and stuff, unless you are playing Baldur's Gate Trilogy, Baldur's Gate TuTu, or certain other mods) but I doubt you'd get enough XP for it to matter - you'll be able to get another level or two, at any rate.
