There's an old saying.  The powers that be love original ideas.  That's why they keep using them over and over and over and over again. But there's a reason the powers that be do this. It's what people expect. (or it's what they think people expect). But whatever.  It's not my Shep, my Warden, my Hawke, my Knight Captain, my Spirit Monk, my Lone Wanderer, etc, etc, etc.

Well, considering how much is actually going on with The Old Republic era, it kind of is about time for Revan to be canonized. It was inevitable due to the whole overarching plot of Star Wars and how everyone is trying to cash in by filling the few remaining blanks. It's how a license as large and old as SW makes money.

Mass Effect is not Star Wars. While I have no problem with femShep, I really don't think she would go over well at all to the majority audience. Only 20% played as femShep, according to ME2 data. And I'm not sure if that's 20% of all playthroughs. Which means perhaps not even 20% of the total fanbase was playing as femShep. Romancing Liara is apparently being pushed as canon though, if we're judging by things like the Genesis comic and the oh-so-subtle hints Shepard used to describe how he felt about her.

But Udina is being made canon councilor, and John Shepard is the Shep the movie will have. I'm wondering if the "default" no-import version of ME2 is a sign of what BioWare considers canon. Maybe not, but we'll see when the movie comes out and IF ME ever needs to be canonized for future games.
But I doubt the games will ever purposely contradict the player.

Canonizing a character like Shepard (and Revan) is downright insulting to the fans. It's the same as coming out and just saying "oh, by the way, we don't give a **** about your personal experiences playing these games". I will absolutely never purchase or support any Mass Effect product that invalidates my key choices and my game. I was given choice because it is important to the story to make it personal to each player. Take that away, you take away half the fun of the franchise, and all of the soul.

Revan has been canonized a long time ago when the Xbox and PS2 were doing their console battles.

Shepard being canonized will not ruin the games for me or any current fans of this series. It will sprout people who think they are better than others saying "well according to the movie Shepard is male not female. . . . etc etc"

I personally like my Shepard file being a paragon that Romanced Liara because if Shepard romanced Ashley or Kaidan there is a high chance that there would be unfaithful acts done against the LI.

Seriously dude, get a life..  Your post is the perfect example of self centered nerd rage.

And stop pretending as if you're some spokes person for the fans, because you're not; no more than the OP and his ridiculous claims about FemShep.  Personally, I hope Bioware canonizes Shepard, just because I know it's going to drive people like you crazy..

If possible, I'd like to take it a step further and have Shep be as adrogynous as possible. confusion ftw.

Stopped reading there.  I can't stand femshep fans.  They're the only ones arrogant enough to assume canon Shep should be female, AND that all other fanbases would be A-OK with this.

Who cares about what Shepard is canonized in the movie? This is the same kind of rage you get when you read a book, say "The Relic" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, then see the movie adaptation. "Whoa, that wasn't in the book," I said to myself. "But that's fine, I'll just go read the book again because I like it better anyway."

Same with whatever the ME movie comes up with. No matter what I think is garbage, I can go back to the game. It's not like they are going to release a patch post-movie-dude-Shep canonization that removes my Shepards' vaginas or anything. My Shepard is canon for me. Your Shepard is canon for you. The movie Shepard is canon for the movie. Sheesh.

They are a group of less then 18% of the fan base. No way in hell would everyone be happy with this. I personally find it painful to listen to the voice acting of femshep. No offense to Jennifer Hale because she's voiced alot of female characters in games that I love.

Some people seem to think that because Revan was canoned as a male that shep should be canon as female. Ok, I don't know if people think that but I still enjoy bragging that my Revan got canonized though 

Anyway canon shep as female would be stupid. Look at all the marketing Maleshep gets why would they out of nowhere make him a woman?

Exactly this. Even though some characters get canonized I still ignore it entirely and play the game like it didn't happen. Like Revan canonized as a man that saved the republic, oh wait that was how I played it too

I've never really understood why people can get so offended by the idea of there being an "official" canon Shepard. I've always considered Sheploo as Bioware's canon Shepard. I almost wish they would give him one of the background paths to complete the character.

The way I see it, my personal canon Shepard is mine. No one else's. Having her be so different than Biowares poster boy makes me like her that much more. I'm not sure if mine stance is a hard one for others to understand, but having an "official" canon Shep just make my custom Shep feel that much more special to me, like she's making the role her own instead of filling a void.

Don't know if I articulated that thought clearly. I'm tired.
