In ME1 the Salarian councilor calls terra Nova "on the borders of the terminus systems" Noveria (the second closest main mission world) is in the terminus. Illium is in the terminus or at least on the border so in essence does the council govern an island while the terminus system is a vast continent? or is that just me?Image IPB

To my knowledge it's never elaborated on.

I wouldn't go that far but the Terminus is most certaintly far larger and more vast. Thts how it is often, the Terminus is the wild west frontier and Citadel space is the close to the cost condensed but effiecent networked establishment.

I tend to think of the terminus systems as the "Northern and somewhat eastern" part of the galaxy. But honestly I don't think you can divide up the galaxy in a traditional map with borders I think it is defined more by the relay network and who has access to what relays.

I like to think of it like that it's like the EVE Online galaxy. A small area of "high security" space is Council Space. The Traverse is like "low security" space. Then the vast majority of space is "zero security" or Terminus.

Here you go. There is a better one, a geopolitical one with borders but I couldn't find it. If anyone can link it, thanks.

edit: This one is better imo.

edit2: And this one is a another version of the last one, though I wish it had a color coded legend or a better resolution.

Citadel space isn't contiguous, so don't be expecting a galaxy map that looks like the one for Star Wars with the outer rim and whatnot. Since the galaxy is connected via relay network, and not many people venture more than a few days at FTL travel away from a relay, if you transposed all the "Citadel space" relays onto a map of the milky way, you'd get a map covered in little bubbles representing the relays in star systems the Citadel species inhabit.

Indeed, that's how one should think of it.
