Is this based on fighting armored units? Shielded or barriers?

Aside from the lore issues, the main reasons I didn't like it in ME2 was that I was always being forced to give some of the total clip ammo pool to weapon types I had no interest in using at all for certain builds (i.e. some of the clips were being distributed to the shotguns when I didn't want to use shotguns) and that any sense of tactical challenge and urgency the system was supposed to introduce was completely killed by the regenerating health and too-fast power cooldowns entirely.

With ME3, in the case of the former I'm guessing that will no longer be an issue, since I won't be forced to take weapons I don't want to any more. In the case of the latter... I guess we'll have to see. To be honest though, I always thought introducing an "ammo" mechanic into the game was a mistake in the first place: the original Mass Effect was unique in its lack of one, and the addition of one not only broke my brain lore and logic-wise, but just made the sequel seem more generic.

I agree this is a pretty pointless thread now, so I'm leaving anyway.
But before I do I'd like to thank Brenon and Bioware, this is good news. :D

Edit: p.s. Your Warden looks awesome.

Thanks for the apology, at least, because the ME2 ammo system made the game vastly worse.

He probably means having a single large pool of TCs that all weapons draw from, rather than each weapon having it's own small pool which once depleted cannot be refilled by TCs from any of your other guns.

Also, crunching already? I feel for you!

Ah, if that's the case... then no. It's the same as in ME2. Each weapon has its own pool.

Noooooooooo! What about my omni-gel idea? You can make bullets out of omni-gel and have a fixed amount shared across the guns! COME ON!

Freakin' future doesn't seem as bright anymore when weird irrational situations like a piece of ammo on the ground increases ALL guns ammos yet each gun can only use it's own.

IRRATIONAL I TELL YOU!!

Nah, just kidding. I think the dedicated TC idea is pretty realistic,

How is that realistic?  The thermal clips you find aren't weapon specific, so how do they magically become weapon specific?

Having the clip pools be weapon specific would make sense if the clips were weapon specific when you found them, but they're not.

Exactly. What you essentially have is an ammo that is universal in the lore, but you can't use it as universal ammo in the game. Shepard picks it up and distributes it evenly amongst all his weapons instead of going, "I'll save most of them for my favourite weapon or most useful weapon at the moment."

Agreed.  But it's really no surprise,  since EA's handlers let the Syndicate team make the statement that now RTS isn't a viable genre either,  so at EA there's one game and one game only.  Shooters.  Nothing else is worth making.

Doomsday clock...it is ticking for the game industry...you'd think that out of that many people they'd figure out releasing the same game over and over will lead to no one buying games anymore...

how do the devs not notice these things???

id rather have the gameplay force me to use correct weapons, rather then giving infiltrators 11 total sniper bullets.

God forbid people have to think and conserve their ammo instead of just holding down the mouse button.

Next thing some clown will suggest getting rid of mana in fantasy games because not spamming spells indefinitely is "annoying".

Your question presumes that if they had noticed, they necessarily would have done differently.  For all you know, and for all that you may not like it, it's entirely possible and probable that they implemented it that way on purpose.

Even though the ammo system sort of contradicts the codex on weapons and weapon usage, the addition of munition was a bitter pill that needed to be swallowed. For ME1 infinite ammo made the game way too easy. If one was a soldier they could activate immunity and tank everything, no matter the difficulty. So to make the game a reasonable challenge "thermal clips" were introduced. This idea worked well with most classes because they had powers to compensate for the ammo. But for the soldier this idea was a death warrant. I am a soldier and I have beaten the game on insanity 5 times as the soldier and it is always a challenge to manage ammo. I would prefer to have clips removed in ME3 but it would ruin the challenge. As much fun as it was to demolish everything in my path during ME1, it was quite dull. ME2 frustrated me but, it challenged me. So I would like to have that same challenge in ME3. Bioware should keep the clip system for that very reason.

Technically it should be locked for violating the site rules, in regards to starting new threads with the exact same topic as existing threads.

Its just that butthurt is so painful that people cant be bothered spending 5 seconds searching for an existing thread before expressing their outrage.

IIRC; thermal clips are universal within a weapon class. All sniper rifles use the same type of thermal clip. All pistols use hte same kind of thermal clip. But snipers and pistols dont' use the same type.

Makes sense after all - weapons are of different size and requirements - a pistol is smaller, and has smaller thermal clips. Sniper rifles require a huge amoung of cooling at once. Etc....

And yet, when you pick up a thermal clip from the ground, which kind of weapon is it for?

The correct answer is "all of them".
