So I read they were going to have same sex romance options in this game. . . My first thought was one of disappointment. "Oh Bioware" I thought, "here you are pandering to a minority while ignoring the fact that most people who play your games are straight and male (most gamers are male, most males are straight. . . safe logic leap here).
Then I got to thinking. . . why does it bother me so. I mean I think guys kissing is the second grossest thing on Earth but I'm hardly a Bible thumper who wants to restrict personal choice.
I think it comes down to 3 things:
1: I am worried that bioware will do what it did in Dragon Age 2 and turn characters gay when they were not gay before. I liked anders in Awakening, he was the closest thing my warden had to a best friend (since losing his beloved Leliana and having a falling out with brother in arms Allistair) and I was genuinely excited to see how this character developed in DA2. Then he starts HITTING on me even though I am male and even though neither Anders or Justice was gay. I mean this just seemed like bad writing changing a character just to pander to a minority without any good reason.
So the point is that as long as Bioware does not turn any existing characters gay and blow off previous character development I will be happy. I will be even happier if. . .
2: Bioware should give players an option to NOT recruit people they don't like. I know a lot of people defend SS relationships in games by saying it's about choice but I want a choice not to affiliate myself with people I find to be distateful. ME2 did a good job of this but I actually liked the companions so I never felt the need to not get anyone. Still I liked being able to refuse missions I had moral issues with (I played as paragon and often refused to do shady things).
To be honest I typically don't use the gay characters in bioware games. I leave them back at the base wearing the cheapest armor I can find so I don't have to waste resources on them. I usually just kill Zevran (mainly because I don't want to have to deal with his eventual betrayal) and I know that Leliana has certain leanings but they never come up in my playthrough so. . . whatever.
3: I don't like when people insist that SS relationships must be treated as "normal" they are not. If they were population growth would not exist because over half the people would not be reproducing at all (gays and any straight people who choose not to have kinds). Bioware tries to make SS seem just normal and this does not sit right with me because it seems like obvious pandering. Maybe for the Asari it's normal since they don't have males but for humans it's queer (meaning odd or unusual).
So that is my thought on the matter and hopefully it will generate some good discussion. . .
After giving it some thought. . . character interactions related

Do you know that in ME1 Kaidan and Ash were supposed to be s/s romances? That never happened though the time issue...so my question is simple..if they were then, what would be your opinion since they are a big part of the main story and you can't simply kill them or not recruit them?
Here all over the forums is discussed and not sure/but also confirmed?/ that the s/s romances will "come out of the closet" only through your reactions towards them.So as long as you don't interact with them in a certain way, they won't "bite" you.
As for the issue of turning all characters bi.. casey said that some will be available, but not all.

Such a charming soul OP is...Stategy: Join Forum and troll.
If you are going to argue the intraoduction of s/s romances, at least use a little finesse and diplomacy, then you might get a coherent discussion....as it stands, you are only insulting and aggravating people, myself included....and I'm not Homosexual.

I stopped reading after this. I should have stopped reading sooner but I like to personalize when I deconstruct an argument. Double standard much? I'm sure you didn't think anything of Liara, Samara, Morinth and Kelly, right?Jim Foster wrote...

Point is, if you can deal with two girls tongue swapping, you can deal with two gents doing some tongue swapping.

And in you logic if in ME3 all characters are bi,because they are all VS's...that wouldn't be right?

Now making them both bi seems almost (to me) like they did it so the virmire survivor was always romanceable for every player
Dont get me wrong I am fine with
Tali/miri and Kaidan bi
or
Jacob/garrus and ash bi
but
not
Ash and kaiden both bi (but hey they either could be dead so who cares right?)
Sorry for making an @ss of myself.
