Is it just me, or is Raiden from Metal Gear Solid pretty similar to Fenris in Da2? I think Fenris is kinda based on raiden...

-Both have white hair
-both have similar accents
-both are emo
-both are "warriors" (in the sense that raiden uses a sword)
-Both think theye 'all alone" in this world
-Both have been abused by their former masters, and then have defeated them (for fenris its Danarius, and for Raiden its Sollidus)
-Both are really just looking for campanians and love in this world
-Both have similar appearences

... and I think there is a few more similarities too, cant think of em ATM

Thoughts?

In what way is a plain American accent similar to a South African/English hybrid accent... ?

Anywho they can't be that similar cause Fenris never gets naked. Sort it out Bioware!

Meh. I don't know much about this Raiden character, but I find your  nterpretation of Fenris' personality to be rather flawed. (I don't really get the whole "feels he's alone in the world" bit.)

But really, you can take any two fictional characters and show how similar they are if you describe them in broad enough strokes.

For instance, I could compare Fenris to Hellboy:

Neither are human
Both hate demons (well, Hellboy hates OTHER demons)
Hellboy was brought into this world with a magic ritual, "Fenris" got his powers through a magic ritual
Both left their former employers to go out on their own
Both have very gruff, serious personalities
Both are melee fighters
Both are anti-hero types
They both have "special hands" — Hellboy possesses the Right Hand of Doom, Fenris can shove his hand into people's chests

Do I actually believe that Fenris and Hellboy are the same character? Nope. But if you ignore the differences and focus only on the vague similarities, then you draw a comparison between any two characters.

For my next trick, I'll show how Isabela is actually Lara Croft, how Varric is Keyser Soze and how Merrill is Betty Rubble.

I would compare fenris to Cloud strife..

Both don't remember getting a blueish substance in them.
Both ran away
His name is Fenris..and Clouds bike is the fenir or was it his blade?
Both have glowing side effect. Mako eyes for cloud, and blue lyrium markings for fenris.
Both have poor me syndrome

Sorry OP, I just don't see it. You could apply that same logic to lots of other scenarios, which makes it a somewhat weak case.

I don't really think I can imagine two characters with less in common than Raiden and Fenris.

And, really? You think Quinton Flynn sounds like Gideon Emery?

Yeah...no. They do share some commonalities but not enough to say Fenris is based on Raiden. And unless you're reducing them down to bulletpointed lists and ignoring everything that doesn't fit, they're not all that similar.

There was a broody, white-haired elven slave in Baldur's Gate II named Solaufein.  There's a broody, white-haired elven former slave in Dragon Age II named Fenris.  David Gaider is a writer on both games and was the writer for Fenris.  (I don't know if he wrote Solaufein or not.)

That said, I'm not suggesting Fenris is the same character as Solaufein.  But I think Bioware might have revisited the idea of Solaufein (a minor character) and developed it into Fenris (a major character with more depth).

At any rate, I think that's the more likely source of inspiration.

Even comparing Fenris to Logan doesnt make me like him lol.  Sorry but thinking about it, Logan would hand Fenris his ass.  Period.  The End.  Why?  Because Fenris would be too busy pining and whining about how he hates mages and was a slave to pay attention to whats going on and Logan would simply lop his head off.  /end fight B)

'Based on', might be the wrong words for it.

'Inspired by', is more correct way of putting it.

if every white haired warrior in the future is going to be based on raiden there's gonna be a lot of em
they just have similaritys because thats what this world is made of do you know how many people i recognize myself in?
that doensn't mean i was created with them in mind i don't think my parents where that far stretched
you will always find others who share the same visions lifestyles philosophy in life or it would be a lonely place
the only lonely place i know is at the top :D

Fenris does not have any lightning-based powers, so no.

That´s exactly what I have been thinking after meeting Fenris... there are a lot of "Fenris-like" characters if you reduce his personality to a skeleton because Characters with a dark and troubled past tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DarkAndTroubledPast ARE an archetype. Practically every character in games, movies, books, etc. fits one type or another.
But something in Fenris speech and behavior just reminds me instantly of Solaufein - though like you wrote as an inspiration and not a copy.

Fenris could never hope to be as awesome as Raiden is.
