I didn't realize they were talking about an "unofficial" release, but it is tumblr and the link gave me an error message so I'm assuming it's bullhonky.

*eyebrow raise* Well, if they're actually playing it then I guess I stand corrected.

BTW I clicked the link and it prompts for platform, verifies my password then goes through to the checkout for the MotA DLC. I don't intend to buy it though, so I don't know if it will allow you to play once you download it.

Agreed; stealth was all but totally ruined in DA2. I thought it worked really well in DA:O, so why did they "fix" it if it wasn't even broken? Enough about that...

I'm not buying Mark of the Assassin until they fix the original game and Legacy, the latter of which I have also not played because of all the incidents and reports of it just not working properly.

The stealth in DAII: MotA isn't about actually activating an ability. You're creeping around the area silently with the ability to knock out guards, like a ninja cat .

Still, I do wish I could activate Stealth outside of battle and not have it turn itself off after 10 seconds. But the stealth in DAII and the Stealth ability are two different types of stealth. One deals with blending in shadows during battle to strike from those very shadows, while the other is about taking out guards before they become a hassle.

Really, I guess I could say that's an improvement on the concept of Stealth rather than have me say they ruined it

It's a huge improvement if it works correctly. Stealth as an aggro dump and critical hit delivery system is boring and not very stealthy at all (it's borderland magic).

Stealth is hard to get right in video games. And the only time I can say with 100% honesty at a game nailed Stealth perfectly was the first two Thief games back in the day. Others have come close but none of them grabbed the mechanic and made it more tense and rewarding than straight up combat.

In RPGs? It worked well enough in Oblivion. Alpha Protocol's AI was too stupid and so sneaking (especially with an invisibility power availible) was a cake walk. DA:O's stealth was pointless with the sole exception of part of a quest where you could poison drinks and the like in the Arl of Denerim's house (or someone's mansion I forget).

I interested in how it will play out here.

I can confirm that, for PC users at least, you can download and play Mark of the Assassin. I am playing it right now.

So I guess someone at Bioware/EA did a boo-boo.

I believe they may have fixed it. When I try using the same method as before (via that link posted above), the PC button just takes me back to my What's New BSN page.

It seems the window of opportunity has been closed.

(I admit I'm kinda tickled I got early access when my preorder of DA2 was seriously delayed.)

Anyway, I can't compare it to Legacy since I haven't played it, but initial impressions after an hour or so of play is that it's focussing more on interactions with the NPCs, environment and story.

Combat (so far) is nowhere near as commonplace as it was in DA2, and with the exception of the very first encounter it feels more special (IMO) for being rarer and better executed.

New lore if you like lore, new NPC clothes, better attention paid to NPC appearances overall (elves that look appealing? madness), pretty scenery (though initial maps still a bit constraining with 'tunnel' roads), some new monsters, and Tallis is pretty cool even if she keeps dying on me, heh. I like Felicia Day and her VO is not disappointing me.

I'll have to check when I get home, but I think some or all of the music is taken straight from Leliana's Song. Not that I mind since I thought that score was better than DA2's, but nothing new there (so far). If you haven't heard the music from that DLC, then you're missing out (or in for something special).

No comment on items yet, only found three or four new ones.

Lots of new banter. Varric is locked into your party for the first scene only, but when you leave Kirkwall you can take him out if you want (I didn't; Varric) and Tallis is locked in instead. Your sibling can be taken with you at that point.

 A quick question for you guys:  about what time of day is MotA going to be up on the servers for purchase?  I was somewhat irked when I wasn't able to buy Legacy until like 4pm.  An intended ETA would be nice, even if the server decides to spontaneously combust and you can't actually get it posted at that time.

Average time is around noon based on previous releases, if there isn't a link on the main page then it can be found here

DLC is a very tasty judging by the video description, and i bought it without any problems) smart marketing strategy BioWare! the pirates are crying into the pillow)
