Mainshep is named after myself, because I'm super unoriginal and like to insert myself into RPGs I play.

I didn't really think I could do that as my name is the long form of John.  No I'm not telling you how its spelled lol.

Haha, I hear you; luckily my first name is a mere 4 letters long (see profile if you're curious) so I was always able to name main characters of RPGs after myself ever since the 8-bit era.

My middle name (also the same as my father's first name)

Sounds cooler than my first name.

Rem
R.E.M (Rapid Eye Movement)
Shep seems to do that a lot when it comes to visions.

Well, I haven't got that many Sheps just yet, nor do they have as "exotic" names as some of you have for your Shepards. But here's what I got so far.

"Main Sheps" - Both Soldiers, Earthborn War Heros, Paragon and Romanced Liara. (they are essentially a gender-swap of eachother)

Gordon Shepard (M) <-- Gordon Freeman + Adrian Shepard (Double Half-Life homage for the win! B) )

Jaina Shepard (F) <-- Named after Jaina Proudmoore from the WarCraft series of games.<3

"Alts" - Both Soldiers, Earthborn War Heros and Paragon. (I REALLY need to try out other classes eventually)

Anthony Shepard (M) <-- named after Anthony "Tony" Stark (aka. Iron Man) B), Romanced Tali.

Jake Shepard (M) <-- named after Jake Sully from James Cameron's Avatar :alien:, Romanced Jack.

More Sheps to come, but this is all I got so far. Not exactly the most creative names, but hey, best names I could come up with that flows with the name "Shepard".

My Adept/Paragade, Cassandra Shepard, is my favorite one, named after Cassandra of Troy. (or Black Bat, either one works for me!)
Nil is my Paragon/Infiltrator/Canon (using my highschool nickname).
Kate is another one of my nicknames, used on my Paragade/Vanguard.
and Kathrine (named after Kathryn Janeway, I just hate the spelling.) is my Renegade/Soldier.

I think I left my geek glasses on.

I've got a Marian, a Sarah, a Tobias, and a Leon.

Tobias got his name because he's a Mormon. All of the others just sounded nice.

My Shepard's named Emilie (not pronounced as Emily. It's the Scandinavian way of pronouncing it), after myself. Boring, I know :P I'm super unoriginal when it comes to naming characters.

Orion - A reference to mythology's greatest hunter, which lead into his class as an Infiltrator.

Olivia - A reference to the greek plant of diplomacy and reasoning before conflict. This is followed by her being a soldier.

Nazca - A vague relation to the name Nazara. I really like Sovereign's name, and the idea that Sovereign is, in the opinion of the geth, something more feminine (geth equivalent) than masculine.

Sol - A reference to the system where Earth resides.

Jon - A reference to Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen.

Lila Shepard - named after Lilah from Angel (don't recall why I left out the h)

Aderyn Shepard - Welsh for bird, originally chose the name for Hawke but decided to reuse it.

47 Shepard - My first ManShep (didn't play as him for long though) couldn't think of a good name for a man so settled for a number

Araminta--because that was the birth name of Harriet Tubman. And that's how I imagined my FemShep's personality. Definitely a Paragade...lol.

Conductor of the Underground Railroad helping runaway slaves escape, she wouldn't hesitate to put a gun to your head. Some runaways felt like they couldn't make it. It was a hard journey. They swore they wouldn't say anything to give the rest away, but Tubman wasn't having it. She'd put a gun to their heads and simply say, "Go free, or die. Dead men tell no tales."

Later she remarked on that, saying you'd be surprised how their energy was renewed after that..lol.

Primary character is Book Shepard... because my old roommate has a fun sense of humor to suggest it, and I figured anyone who knows what show that's referencing would be amused.

My paragon Vanguard was named Amara from her father's travel to the planet Amaranthine during his own military service.
My renegade Infiltrator, Kathy, has a full name of Katherine Marsilia Shepard. She was named after an aunt who is considered to be crazy. Most people don't know her full name and she prefers Kathy anyway.
I've a male Shepard named Alex Shepard. That name was an ironic nod to a protagonist in Silent Hill series also named Shepard

Jack.

To me, that's the epitome of a badass name. Too bad the devs can't program npc's to call your shep by first name.

DudeShep Sentinel-Trevor. The obligatory "me" Shep Paragade canon nonesense.

FemShep Solider-Amelia. Call me a hipster if you must but out of all of the Doctor's companions, there's never been one like Amy Pond.

well... you asked for it.

Leah... cause I keep trying to play a self insert.
Simone.. I wanted a sort of femme fatale femshep and Simone sounded like a vampy name
Maya .. Indira Varma's character in Kama sutra, the love story.

the rest of the Shepards all have names starting with letter J

Jill - cause it sounded nice
Jewel - the other half of my nickname, I was running low on imagination that day
Johari - valuable, jewel in sanscrit (different baby name sites give different meanings)
Jade... after a gemstone, and she's japanese
Jubilee - marvel character, but that shep is a polar opposite of the character whose name she uses
Judith.. - it felt like a nice, old fashioned name, fit her persona
Jaqcui - apparently, it means imposter, I thought it was a fitting name considering I used Leah's original ME1 import for her as well as face, as a base design.
Julia...Childs...except femshep is nothing like her, I was just the name that occurred to me when trying to name yet another femshep

Jean Luc - Picard. oh yes.
Jeremy, Joshua, Justin - all got their names cause I liked the way they sounded
there also used to be James... as in James bond, womanizer ... and failure extraordinaire, and Jensen- nice quiet guy, so unlike the characters played by the actor whose name (and face) he was inspired by. But these 2 have been retired

I might have a Shepard problem

Julian Childs was more like Shepard than you think. She was an OSS agent during World War II.
