I sometimes look around the romance thread and find a few discussions on whether or not we should have gay/bi relations in mass effect (though we do have lesbian.)

Anyway at first I figured it was because we had been with them the whole way (some comments suggest this) then i  continued to read and it seemed like they wanted it so that people would have to deal with it in their day to day lives (force them to accept it)

No even though some chars were originally meant to be bi (ash and kaiden possibly miri) I really don't see Ash as bi (never seemed to flirt w/ fem shep) While I actually thought Kaiden was Gay.

Next off I never really saw any threads about people angry that they could not continue to romance their LI and as such hated the new ones bioware gave us (Though the game was long out when I got it soo... yeah.) So I don't know why you would be angry if they introduced new bi/gay characters (though I generally dont care what they do with their game as long as it stays fun.)

So is the reason to...
Force acceptance? (Gays still are not fully accepted... Especially on the internet.)
Liked the old chars (they were there forever)
Feel like adding new chars on the last game is like giving scraps to keep you quiet?

P.s. I am a little nervous the thread will be taken the wrong way... Considering how the way we interpret text is different.

P.P.s Maybe Ash did seem flirty to some players fem shep but not to me. (I play both fem sheps so I can experiance the full game.)

If the "force acceptance" bit is anything to go by, it is certainly a possibility.

About your question, I suppose the main reason is that they (including me, but I don't like using "we") liked the old characters. That said, bring me mah Vega.

Now the force acceptance bit I actually qouted from one of the bi supporters comments but the thread itself is lost to me and I cant recall it. (he said something like we need to so this in more things so people are forced to accept it.) he had said that to someone who had said people play video games so the dont have to think about gay/bi's (he was against it.)

So it is not my words but someone elses.

Not really, although there are some who want something somewhat like that.

Yes.
And don't forget "I think two dudes/chicks is hot."

I don't particularly care either way, but I wanted to point out something.

Until a character specifically says "I only like women/men/space hamsters" we don't know what's going on inside their (fictional) minds. To say that Bioware would be 'turning' anyone into anything is false: a character's sexuality can't be changed when they had none to begin with.

Whatever Bioware decides to do, some people are going to be unhappy. But I'd rather they err on the side of more choices rather than less.

Also, for the record: even if 'old' characters are available to both genders of Shepard (and it looks like at least some will be), Bioware have confirmed new characters will also be an option. It's not a 'rather than' choice so much as it is an additional one.

Your good.

I generally do believe socially lesbian relationships are far easily accepted, which is why hardly never any uproar compared to guys who are often looked upon as masculinite.

But back to the point, I think underneath it all Bioware is doing the right thing by doing this. To each their own.

My main reason, is because it really feels shoehorned if you add it to only new people as a feature. And I guarantee that if Vega is bisexual, he'll simply be "the gay guy," and he'll be thrown on the ship and never used immediately upon the knowledge that he's fine with both genders. And for a woman, naturally she'll spark ire from some people as well, but nearly as much as "Geyga."

Having older characters open up more with their sexuality shows an even larger sign of trust to Sheperd if it means anything. It allows them to provide more fanservice (which is what romances are in a nutshell in this series), and it's FAR less likely to cause more aftershock problems. You think the forums are upset now? Imagine the problems present by series fans disliking a "gay guy" and certain other characters like Jacob for instance. The smear job is just a monster sitting on the horizon... Waiting to rear its ugly head. And honestly, it's the only real way that Bioware can fix the problem that they made present from the start.

No one would have had huge problems with Straight-Sheperd. The real beast here was that it was Straight-MALE-Sheperd. Kelly the final straw for people and is really what ignited the flames.

It's sort of how Saint's Row 1 only allows male, but Saint's Row 2 allows you to be female despite the fact that you are CLEARLY and canonically a male in the first one. Better late than never. Men aren't the only ones that play Sandbox games, and a woman should be able to look and play as a woman should she want to in a game. And fixing a problem that could upset (potential) fans is very important.

I just like the idea of Ashley being bi and having been all the time yet also believing in God.

It's a nice little bit there, that's it's not a problem in the future.

I'm gay and even I think that's a dumb reason...

Yes. I like Kaidan and I want to romance him as a male because I, obviously, connect more with M/M relationships in mah fictions.

Sort of. If Vega is the only gay it will feel like that was his only purpose: to be gay. Which would be fine and all, but it would still feel a little cheap...

That being said, whatever Bioware does is fine as long as my ManSheps can mack dudes up, back coupes up and chuck the deuce up.

Is there supposed to be some kind of problem here?

I just don't like playing as manShep (I always play as female when there's a choice), but I love Jack and find new look of Ashley rather attractive. Thus I want them to be bi, so I could romance them without having to play as manShep.

And I am sure there are people who don't like playing as femShep but like some male companions and want those companions to be bi for the same reason.

I don't think that their interest even needs any explanation just because they were not interested in previous games. Not all people fall in love at first sight. Some people need time to develop feelings and realize that it goes beyond simple friendship.

I loved DA2 approach of everyone being Hawke-sexual (I know, it is unpopular opinion here), and I want to see it with ME3, because limiting LIs to some gender just limits the gamer to some gender.

Tastes differ, and it is frustrating to play the entire game in the gender you don't want (or reserve to modding which can screw you save file and make it unimportable) just for the sake of getting a LI you like. Especially when character's gender doesn't matter at all in aother aspects of the game.

IMO, a character should be either romanceable for both genders, or not be romaceable at all. This is a game after all, not a real life, so to hell with how unrealistic it might be. Mass relays are not real too.

Also, if a character is bi on someone's playthrough it doesn't mean the same character should be bi in yours. For example, for some people Ashley is dead, and for some Kaidan is dead. So, who is dead for reals? Some destroyed collector's base, some kept it. What really happened? What is the real gender of Shepard and who is his or her true love? It's up to the player.

The same is with sexual orientation. If in my game some character is bi, it doesn't mean the same character can't be totally straight in yours. Everyone creates their own canon after all.

Or you think that if someone gets mm or ff relationships with some character, it will automatically make this character bi in your game?

Hears something everyone needs to read. Too bad people will still complain.

I'd rather have old characters be bi than have a slew of new characters introduced, not that those two are necessarily correlated.

Mostly I want to see all the LIs end in a satisfactory and/or story-completing way.  Bioware already has a crapton of possible LIs to deal with (Kaidan, Ashley, Liara, Garrus, Tali, Miranda, Jacob, Jack, Thane).  If they do give us new LIs, I'd rather them at least be characters we've already met, like Joker and Kelly.  I can't think of too many important characters introduced in the final installment of a trilogy that I've actually ended up giving a crap about, so I'd rather Bioware focus on their established characters.  If that means making Ashley bi instead of introducing a whole new female human squadmate, then that is alright with me.

I'd like to see it so long as they can keep it so you have to deliberately pursue it. No gay guy wants their boyfriend hitting on a female (I think) and I would cry if I had to worry about seeing both genders as competition for Garrus.

You should also add onto that list " BW owes us." I've never run into a we must force acceptance line on the pro side though.

I think new characters like Vega should be s/s I also could careless if Vega turns out only for mshep. We all knew sense ME Liara was/could be and more recently Kelly got on that list.

But past LIs should be off the s/s table.
