The Reapers wouldn't have designed their fighters to only have one main weapon that would burn out after a few minutes of fighting.

Assumption. The Reapers could consider Occuli disposable drones, for all we know.

They do have limits, yes. But the lasers are burned out because of automatic, continuous usage. If their output could be manually controlled, they wouldn't burn out. After all the Occuli are capable of using lasers continuously.

We do not know how long the Occuli can keep up continuous usage of their main weapon. The longest we saw any for was a couple of minutes.

You have no reason to believe the occuli weapons and GARDIAN laser systems are analogous, and pretty much every reason to believe they're not.

I suppose. Seems unlikely to me, but okay.

My whole point was that lasers bypass Reaper shields, so that could be a possible tactic. It doesn't have to be a GARDIAN laser exactly; just something like it, or something like the Occuli laser.

I'm going to reiterate the main arguments on the laser issue:

Lasers may work:
Bypasses shields
Can be mounted on a fighter

Lasers may not work;
Diffusion over range
Inefficient use of power/space/heat buildup limits output.
System burnout in prolonged battles.

Just to clarify, we're talking about laser-based weapons in general. GUARDIAN is simply the most well-known in-universe application of military lasers.

of course not but like the supernova theory why not a black hole the process is quite the same no?

ps:hmmm shoot a black hole well why not a modified M-490 Blackstorm on the Normandy (that is a joke)

Black holes are created by supernovas.

Not all dying stars that go supernova are massive enough to create a black hole, but super massive stars will leave behind a neutron star as a remnant when they implode. If the star was massive enough the neutron star that is left behind will collapse in on itself and a black hole will be formed.

So, by the time a black hole had been created any Reapers in the area should aready be dead. They would have already been destroyed by the supernova that triggered the black hole.

If the black hole itself is going to be used to destroy the Reapers, they would somehow have to be lured into crossing the event horizon of an already existing one.

you do realize that i was not serious

Lol, this thread again?

People saying that we can't beat the Reapers in naval fights it's just crazy, they're too overpowered...
Some same people saying that using a deus ex is cheap and bleah...

And how do you wanna beat the Reapers? Oh, the "We can't beat the Reapers" thread... right.

We all know that at least one ending means driving the Reapers out, so it's either:
a) naval victory
B) deus ex machina
c) combination of both

And I tend to believe it's a combination a both.

You cannot say that we can't beat the Reapers in naval battles because the Protheans didn't, it's just not the same the same thing. For all we know, the Protheans being the only ones in the galaxy might not even have had a substantial fleet, there'd be no need for one.

Of course, it's also absurd to say we can beat the Reapers in a 1 on 1 fight.
But wars and battles don't mean 1 on 1.

A big enough fleet and good tactics from and in combination with a minor deus ex machina is how we're gonna beat the Reapers. But it will be during a naval battle.

Honestly I would rather find a secret prothean army or something similar than
1) The 'creators' help us
2) We find the central 'power core' and blow it up, killing everything.

Also, what is this thing about a shot fired never stopping so technically it goes on forever until it hits something? Is there no way to reverse such a shot/beam/whatever or divert one?

Well technically there are a couple of natural forces that can exert influence over such a shoot, Gravity can divert practically everything if encountered in sufficient force, Also if the shoot encounter a supernovae  blast wave or a black hole jet stream of sufficient strength the shoot could be completely annihilated.. but chance of any of those things happening are very slim.. in most cases the shoot will just keep going and going...
