Maybe the developers will change their minds about Maric's death.

And are you sure it's and elven fortress? I recall it as being Ortan Thaig, which the Wardens in the Calling wanted to find and knew that Maric went there in The Stolen Throne.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's purposefully left open, but I do remember a Gaider of something like, "Sometimes people just get lost at sea. It happens." The intent was to state that yes, Maric was dead. I think this came up with the Fade Ship too. There were questions of whether it was the ship Maric was lost in and if it was possible he was wandering the Fade, which would be much more interesting than reviving him, I think.LobselVith8 wrote...
Although King Maric "disappeared" at sea, it's been said that he's dead. This topic was brought up when people were discussing the lyrics of King Maric's death in Origins (which incorrectly stated that he had been cut down with a blade, a mistake that was corrected by Gaider).
Maybe the developers will change their minds about Maric's death.

While I'm not sold to any conspiracy theory regarding Maric (there are other theories vying for attention), I had a funny little thought regarding being "lost at sea"...what if, after his three-hour tour, he washed up on the shore of...oh...Est.watch? (And is raising griffons)Monica21 wrote...

Or maybe Flemeth was referring to the 6th Blight, that will happen in DA4, and Maric is still alive, who knows...atheelogos wrote...

Why would you believe anything Flemeth has to say? She has only ever demonstrated herself to be an extremely cunning liar and manipulator in just about every interaction the player has with her. She tells the worst kind of lies, as well - half-truths and lies by omission. Knowing this, there is little reason to put faith in any of her words (or those of her daughter, for that matter).

Not playing DA2 anymore, waste of money, and I don't like the idea on principle.atheelogos wrote...

Re Maric- DG specifically said "some people just die." Most took that to mean he was confirming Maric was dead. We know, however, that the devs are wily beasts, tricksy and false.

It also states that Loghain will betray Maric multiple times. I don't recall Loghain betraying him once. And you can never take what Flemeth says at face value.

I personally don't mind being her puppet. Though, that could be because I have a thing for women that can turn into a dragon..... I blame Disney.

Knowing what I know about Loghain I think that if he really was looking for Marric then he wasn't looking hard. For all we know he found him and left him on some deserted island to rot.

This sorta plays into this connection I made once I beat DA2 for the first time.
Maric, The Warden, and Hawke are all known to have been saved by Flemeth. Theyve all simply vanished as well. No one knows where they are, and there are no bodies.
I'm guessing that Calenhad also had some dealings with Flemeth (he was probably saved by her, but it could be something else), and went missing. Hes probably dead though... unless Flemeth has some way of keeping him alive... who knows. That gurl be crazy.
I guessed pretty closely as to what Legacy was about (Malcoms involvment anyway). Maybe I'm right about this too.

You could call Loghain's actions at the end of TST, with Katriel a betrayal. Then there's Cailan.Big Mac Heart Attack wrote...

Anyway, I think Flemeth acts more as a spirit guide than an oracle. She tells people what she thinks they need to hear, to get them to do what she wants them to do. She wanted (I'm presuming) the Grey Wardens back in Ferelden. So she told Maric something that frightened him and gave him a sense of urgency, and something else that put a seed of doubt between him and Loghain, since Loghain was the more conservative of the two. She wanted Alistair and the Warden to stay and fight the Blight and have Morrigan at their side, so she planted the idea of Loghain as traitor and told Alistair to take his vengeance later. And so on. There were seeds of truth in what she said, but mainly it was a manipulation IMO.

I wouldn't say plant the idea, more like told what she saw, since technically Loghain was a traitor when went against orders and quit the field, and he left his king to die when there was still a slight chance to still save him.

Loghain deliberately withheld information about Katriel because he guessed that if Maric knew it, it might make him take show mercy to Katriel.Anyroad2 wrote...
If I recall, Loghain actions with Katriel wasnt really a betrayal... it was more of a misunderstanding and a "Too little too late" situation. I mean, she originally was sent to sabotage the Rebel Army, get Maric captured and then later on killed. She didn't come clean with all of that, including her change of heart, until she was already in to deep. There wasnt any forgiving her. She was responsible for severe casualties, a heavy loss (that keep battle) and for the death of Arl Rendorn.
However, not the place for this argument.
@Urzon: Flemeth tells them more than just an account of the battle. She deliberately leads Alistair and the Warden to believe that Loghain wanted Cailan dead so he could take the throne. Just like with Maric, she created a sense of threat and urgency so that she could get what she wanted- ultimately, a Warden baby.
@Esbatty: I like your version.

I still hold Morrigan is Maric's, imho. And "Warden Baby" has me rollin', A!

lol I too once thought Morrigan was Maric's child. But that would make Morrigan and Alistair doing it really sickening.
