It seems that Aldenon is the new Parthalan.

The Codex entry for Lake Calenhad states that the Circle Tower dates from the time of Tevinter and the lake itself was thought then to have magical properties. However, Calenhad spent a year and a day with the Circle of Magi there during which time they created his magical armour from the waters of the lake. So was this after his falling out with his former companion or was this when he first encountered him and led to his friend supporting him in the hope of greater freedom for mages?

It would appear the Chantry established a Circle in Kinloch Hold already in Tower Age (a few centuries before Calenhad), but there was no country called Ferelden back then.

As for when, it would probably be after he met Aldenon and while he was searching for allies.

I'm with Ethereal Writer on this one. Anyone who falls vitctim to the taint essentially becomes immortal. The only thing Avernus did was halt the taint's progression using blood magic. If he didn't he'd probably still be alive albeit a corrupted ghoul or a Darkspawn Emissary. The taint is what's keeping him alive not blood magic. Blood magic is ironicly keeping him 'human'.

Source?  Is this brought up in one of the books where they meet a really old ghoul or is it a codex or in-game dialogue I missed?

As for the Parthalan is Aldenon thing Zathrian became immortal (not just immortal but apparently unaging) by binding a spirit with his own blood, couldn't Parthalan have done something similar?

I'm not sure about Grey Wardens being immortal, but darkspawn are immortal because of the Taint. The Architect says that in DAA if i remember right, but they can only be killed by unnatural ways (battle, cave-ins, fire, pointy objects in vital areas, etc.). They don't have to eat or sleep either. The Taint sustains them for about everything.

I'm not sure if the full effects of the Taint get transfered over to the Wardens, but it could still be possible since they drink a very potent mixture of it threw the Joining. That and it might be hard to point out centuries old ghouls either, since they seem to start becoming more and more like darkspawn over time.
