I think BIoware needs to balance out the old DA:O style elves and DAII once. The old ones were far too human looking, bearing no actual differentiation aside from slightly pointed ears and being shorter. And, though I do like a lot of the elves in DAII, some go too far extreme on the "look unique" road. My suggestions would be

-Make the ears half way between the old and the new size.

-Meet halfway in the eyeball size, some of them are FAR too big.

-Make the heads proportionate to the bodies. Its a wonder their damn necks dont break by the sheer size of their heads.

-Making them very thin is good, but their arms and legs hardly have any shape, as if they were muscleless. They should still have some curve instead of being boards with sticks for arms and legs.

-I personally like what Bioware is trying to go for in the facial features, making them somewhat cat-like, but again, sometimes its far too extreme. Refine it a bit more and it should be super.

There's my 10 cents. Take it or leave it. I personally think its worth taking :P

I thought it was unfortunate that the OP used Orana as his example. IMO Athenril is the best looking femElf in the entire game and a testament to the ability of the CC engine.

Really? I thought she looked horrible the first time I saw her....

I don't like the Elves design in DA2, but its the darkspawn that bother me the most. They need to be changed back to the originals in DA3, for definate.

My problems with the Elves are; their eyes are too insect like, their shoulders are too close together, their necks are too long, their ears are too big, and their arms and legs are too thin. If these were changed, then I don't think they would look too bad.

YES! Please this! lol If they fixed the arms and legs then maybe I wouldn't feel bad romancing them. As it stands now the females look like prepubescent teens.... Which feels wrong...

I wouldn't want them to go back to the DAO look but I'm very much in favor of the the look being toned down a little, and please can all elves get some eyebrows.

I hope that if we ever see Zevran again that they will fix the mess that was his new face. Zevran was a very handsome character in DAO so it was disappointing that he looked so awful in DA2, that and the fact that his import was bugged :(

Well, I have to say that I do like the elves in DA2. They look unique and have character. It's the qunari I really have a problem with - I think because they looked more humanoid in DAO, I didn't really think of them as another as another species, more like just another race, so when they showed up in DA2, I was a little surprised.
But anyway, I digress. My main problem with the elves in DA2 is when you try to import DAO elves and give them DA2 features - Zevran came out looking absolutely horrible, imo. As for the rest of the elves in DA2, most of them turned out looking beautiful. I loved the look of Fenris, Athenril, and Merrill. In fact, I thought Merrill was one of the few characters that turned out looking better than they did in DAO. So, I don't mind if they keep the new look - just please, please fix Zevran's face.

I think they look like the elf in Harry Potter. Ergo not unique at all.

I couldn't agree more. I mean, if they can make Fenris attractive, why not Zev? What the futon was with that thing they call his face... the jowls in particular. Ugh, those jowls.

I third this!  The elves in DA2 were just too severe (Fenris excluded).  And I almost jumped out of my skin when I realized that was "supposed" to be Zevran!!!Image IPB

Another thing that really bothers me is the neck.. can't they put a big fat golden chain to cover the cut? Check merril without the scarf in the romance scene.. is horrible!!!! it seems like a blood mage cut her head off and then attached her head to the body! is very ewww (to me).

DAII all the way here.

I will agree though that the elven necks and limbs are in dire need of fixing as I cannot watch Merrill snuggling with Hawke without cringing.

SHIANNI <3

I normally mock people who make threads for stuff like this, but I'd have loved for her to be a companion :(

I'd rather have her instead of Wynne AND Leliana.

Yes, I love her character THAT much.

Funny thing is, that guy who is supposedly superior "elven-wise" looks no different from her at that angle as far as human-like features go, save for larger irides.

He looks quite a bit different from most other angles, so I fail to see your point.

These threads always give me a "I can't ****** to the elves now, change them back, or to this more ******-worthy example" vibe. And there's nothing really anyone can say to change my mind. Sorry, those of you who aren't complaining about your ability to ******.

No, hardly. It becomes evident his nose bridge is more straight in the profile shots but i'd defnitely not count that as 'most other angles', especially when the conversation closeups rarely utilize those.

I actually didn't really notice the new elf design (on most) as much as the new voices the Dalish elves got. Not that it doesn't work for them but it really created a disconnect with the Dalish elves I knew from before. I didn't feel like I was talking to any of the same people as my Dalish Warden's clan.

The DA2 Elves were definitely a step forward if you ask me. Some of the changes to the art style I can understand the criticism of, but not here. There is still room for improvement for DA3 (and cutting out the dodgy background Elves would help) but they look much better than in Origins in my opinion.

Someone at BioWare could do with cutting down on the crazy makeup though...

To me, the elves in DA2 just looked strange and awkward, with the exception of the companions.

I could live with the new elves with a few changes, dont have them slouch so much, shorten the necks a bit, make shoes show up more often, and give them a little muscle.  Thin does not mean your waist is bigger then your chest and that your shoulders slope so much, you can argue how they live all you want but its too much, most humans are not going to be in great shape either but every human looks like a career bodybuilder in the game which exasperates how bad the elves look.

I gotta agree with bulking up the elves a bit. Have them slimmer than humans if that's the design you want but at least give them some muscle. It's difficult to take Fenris seriously as a Warrior when he can effectively hide behind my staff.

I think Bioware needs to find a middle ground between the elves of Origins and those of DA2. I did like some changes made to the elves for the second game. But most of them were hideous, and rather frightening. Skin color, and being way too skinny in disproportional ways were huge contributing factors. One example being that their necks were often too long and too slender and seemed to get even skinnier where neck meets shoulders. Did anyone else notice that? or is it just me? I personally did not like the new Zevran. Another disturbing transformation for one of the elves was Sketch from the Leliana's Song DLC. He then has a cameo appearance in DA2. Take a look at this absolute fail:

Creepy, skinny, pale alien Sketch from DA2. I believe I rest my case. Many times in DA2 especially (which made me laugh and cringe at the same time) people and elves make mention that elves are fairer and more beautiful than humans and are sought after for their looks and company. I really don't see it.....again maybe that's just me.

Elves would be much better in my opinion if they lose the Donkey Ears. I can deal with the face, but ears that stick out like wings from their head look really stupid and make me think more of a kids cartoon or kiddie game. I wouldn't mind tweaking the face some more, but gods the ears....I almost busted a gut laughing at the first Pic I saw of Tallis, poor girl, I bet the wind made it hard to keep her head looking in the right direction.

The design could probably use some tweaking, and I imagine it will get it.

But I don't understand the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the long neck as seen in the cuddle scene between Hawke and Merrill. I mean, yes, she looks a little bit different. Not to point out the obvious, but as similar as they are, she's an elf and NOT a human. So, yes, she's a bit different. And it's OK for her to be different. My Hawke doesn't mind :)
