When someone, anyone says "most" or "majority" then everything they say after or before that is to be taken with pinch of salt. Simple fact is a huge amount of people do not like the new Elves so where you get this "most" from is mere propaganda made up by yourself.
How about the majority of the vocal minority?
Also, /feeds Dragonlordz some chill pills.

That's a CG pic, it doesn't count. Though in actual gameplay in JRPG, take FFXIII in general, it does still look better, but it doesn't look that good. Its definitely something they can shoot for to improve.spiritofretribution wrote...
I like the new elf design, but I also kinda agree with dragonloordz, Final Fantasy (assuming that his image is from FF) has awesome hair design, and that's unfornally all good I can say about FF...

When I first saw screenshots of DA2 Merrill I honestly thought the poster was joking about them being real. So. Damn. Creepy. I'd take DAO Merrill, ugly ass makeup and all, over DA2 Merrill any day. Hell, I'd take Cammen over DA2 Merrill any day. Ugh....
:innocent:

They arent just smaller humans with pointy ears anymore. Another thing that I really like about this new style is that these elves arent like any other elves from other series that I know of. Sure they have pointy ears and are smaller than the average human, but their facial features are really recognizable.
The only thing that I'd like to see are more shoes. >_>
They look silly without footwear, imo.

HORRIFYING.
For every person who says the new elf look is "great" or "distinctive" (and honestly, using either Fenris OR Merrill as an example of the new elves is bad form, as of course companions have received far FAR more attention than your average NPC), you'll find another person (or two) who can't stand them.
I might loathe Bioware for giving me DA:O, involving me deeply in *my* story, giving me companions I cared about and then breaking my heart with Dragon Age 2 and a "The Warden's story is done! Muhahaha!" but I have nightmares about what my Surana would look like as a DA2 elf. No. Thank. You.
PS. True story, I had to cover my eyes when DA2's version of Zevran was onscreen (VA is top notch, I could listen to Jon Curry read the History of Cardboard). Please, Maker, give us a toolset so we can turn him back into the elf we know and love.

I agree that they nailed the elves in DA2, clearly distinguished from humans, and a great look (according to most DA players)
What magic hat did you pull that from the bit underlined?

Probably the same hat you pulled yours from?

*snip*
Merrill, whether you think she's ugly or pretty, is atypically human-looking, in the face anyway. Her eyes are slightly big for humans (so are mine, actually, and probably pretty close to her eyes' proportions, too), her skin is unusually greyish pale (mine's pale, anyway), and overall her facial features are atypically human for the DA2 elves.
When someone trots out pictures of Huon and says s/he likes the new elf look, I believe that person. Huon and the side elves present the DA2 elf features much more strongly than characters like Merrill and Fenris, and if the person likes Huon, for instance, then s/he actually does like DA2's changes to the elves. But when someone dislikes Huon or other side elves (like those three Nosferatu-looking* male elves that stand around everywhere) and says those elves don't count as much as, say, Fenris, and uses Fenris as an example of why s/he likes DA2 elves, then that person is just not speaking accurately when s/he says he likes the changes DA2 made to elves. An elf like Fenris dials back those changes quite substantially; he's much more human-looking, and besides his ear length he wouldn't have been too out of place in DAO. Actually, if DAO had a clan of elves that had a spectrum of the more human-looking DAO elves and Fenris-type elves, it would have signalled more diversity but it would not have been incongruous at all... in contrast to the two Maretharis, for example, as the new one is more strongly DA2-elven.
It reminds me of that phrase DA2's art team had beneath its race concept art: "distinct racial physiology is an opportunity to explore different standards of beauty." I think they failed remarkably. Simply parading different looks around does not explore different standards of beauty. The NYC subway system parades ugly people around all the time and nobody claims it's an exploration of different standards of beauty. To do it you need lots of characters who express admiration for different aesthetics, but that writing wasn't there.
*I confess, I stole this phrase. It was irrestistible.

Besides his creepy blood mage eyes I don't dislike Huon's look. The bad impression he left on me was more the wife killing thing than the fact that he looked like an elf.
Orsino looked good as well.
