Basically as an incentive for players on the new platform. Give away the DLC that cant be ordered, and then you can nickle and dime them for the rest of it. Typical EA behaviour in that regard.
The one thhing i absolutely despise though, is "brand exclusive" DLC. ie: that DLC which was only available if you pre-ordered via Gamestop. Too bad if you are in a country/region which didnt have a Gamestop or affiliated outlet. If anything, that gives PC owners an incentive to don a pegleg and eyepatch, and walk around saying "Yarr!"
hear hear! That was basically my point - no 'official' content should ever be restricted on the grounds of timing, there are plenty of ways to encourage pre-ordering without resorting to content 'exclusivity' and as you say 'brand' exclusives are a an absolute travesty that only serve as a punitive measure for 'disloyal' consumers.
If the various retail outlets are getting their collective knickers in a twist because Steam has established itself as the primary digital distributor then they should be thinking of more creative ways to persuade consumers to jump ship without having to resort to strong-arming publishers into fragmenting content.
I waited patiently for over a year for the new Deus Ex title to be released but when I discovered the above was applicable, I withdrew all support for the game and resigned myself to its absence from my increasingly bloated games portfolio - the only people who suffered in this case (all be it on a trivial scale) were the consumer (me) and the developer/publisher (the misguided fools who were complicit in denying me the opportunity to sample ALL their hard-work).

there's a little shakeup going on at the mo...*insightful remarks*...i know i for one would buy a DLC of all the 'special' armours, just so i could have them all.
Agreed! Money isn't the restriction for most avid players, the restriction's are imposed by white collar marketing exec's who believe that their genius idea of cosy'ing up to greedy affiliates at the expense of the consumer is the way to go.
Ultimately, the free market has the final say and when people eventually become sick of being manipulated into making concessions at the behest of corporate politics, only those company's who stood firm in support of their loyal subscribers will survive unimpeded.

As an Xbox 360 player of ME2, the DLC differences between PS3 and Xbox 360/PC users sucks because I got a late start to the series so getting the Collector's Edition of ME2 and preordering the game to get the Terminus Armor was never an option (bought ME1 and ME2 for Xbox 360 after ME2 was released on PS3). Luckily got the Dr. Pepper promo items.
It would be nice to be able to purchase these DLC packs before ME3's release, like PS3 users can, because I really enjoy the series. Should it matter that I got a late start to the series? Anyone can go out and buy the PS3 version of ME2 and buy all of the DLC that was only available as an exclusive to Xbox 360/PC adopters of ME2. It would be in the best interest of EA and Bioware to release the DLC, that was originally exclusive to certain adopters, for purchase at the 2nd year anniversary of ME2's initial release for Xbox 360/PC because it basically hasn't been available to non-PS3 users for that many years. I think that Xbox 360 and PC players of ME2 won't mind other people getting the "exclusive" DLC because people who got the Collector's edition probably didn't just buy it for DLC because of all the other goodies, and Terminus gear was given away for free as a preorder so people wanting to buy it shouldn't be an issue after almost 2 years. As with the Dr. Pepper promo DLC, why not make it available to purchase after the promotion ends because it's only available to U.S. residents that way and the ME series is not just popular in the U.S.
P.S. I've read on other forums of other people who say things like "don't bother because they are useless", or "there is better gear"; and I would like to say to those people "let me see for myself." Give people the opportunity to purchase the DLC because, guess what, people want it.
P.P.S. This is my first post ever on a forum. Hope it was relevant.

Basically, put me down on the bandwagon for releasing more stuff everywhere. I don't think it's very nice or practical or anything to not do that.
And could Bioware please do Steam users a favor and just make their DLCs available in the Steam store? Mass Effect has been so shafted as far as deals and incentives and ease of use through Steam.

I would like to get the PS3 exclusives on my PC as well. I don't intend on getting a console - I prefer PC gaming and I like getting shiny new toys for fun games. I would consider and probably get the extra DLCs that are console exclusive right now if they were available.
None of the DLCs are platform exclusive. The only thing different with the PS3 is that some items that require codes on PC/360 can be bought on the PSN. And the only stuff it's no longer possible to get codes for anymore on the PC/360 are the Terminus items.
