And then Mass Effect would be just another "bang, bang, shoot em' up' next to Gears Of War type of game.

I OD'ed on DOOM / Wolfenstein and was finished with these types of games. What Mass Effect has done is given a reason to return with the love interests & friendships & story line. Take away that and leave combat .... I wouldn't have bought the game. But that is just me. I am probably in a minority on this.

You missed the part where I noted they could also work on their plots. In other words, the story? Mass Effect is the most story-lite series BioWare has done in my estimation. If hacking out romances meant fleshing out existing characters further, I would take it in a heartbeat. Romance is not why I play these games. It is a part of them, but it should never be the focal point.

Romance is a strong part of the game though. From romance to friendships that is where the connection comes from. I want the all the components of the game to be good and there isn't a main part of this game to me. I have some friends who play for the romance, some for the combat and some for their friendships. The ones that play for the romance/friendships are still re-playing the game while the others who played for the combat have pretty much moved on.

Bioware can either join the herd completely or carve out an even bigger chunk of the RPG section.

I just find it funny how the topic of sex of anykind on this board becomes so heated when how to kill an enemy best doesn't raise an eyebrow. I hear "think of the kids that might play" and it crcacks me up, we are playing a violent game. So stabbing a guy in the neck is ok but showing a breast ... Image IPB

But that is the society that we live in.

I know both of them well. That's not the point.

The point is, I am completely indifferent to both romances, and in one instance, was actually happy they died.
So, even if one was to determine that both of those romances are objectively of high quality (which might be possible), it still wouldn't matter to me.

I never thought you did not know them. Just emphasizing the context of the two situations. Once again writting makes a big chunk of the difference. Shakespeare could have written it to be more of a cautionary tale if he did not emphasize the love and romance as much as he did. We would view the tale quite differently if he did.

Hey look, it's this thread again.

I really hope BioWare has enough class not to emulate the male-gaze, pandering-to-teenage-boys, soft-porn style of "romance" that Witcher 2 exemplifies. Every time somebody points to those cheesy scenes as "mature", I'm immediately clued in that the person is a) male and B) pretty young and/or immature. Seriously, as a woman I found those Witcher 2 scenes to be borderline offensive the way they objectified Triss, who is on full display, while simultaneously pulling the Austin Powers camera gag where Geralt's naughty bits are always obscured. And the moaning and panting soundtrack is just HILARIOUS. Seriously, kids, I'm sure you find better ****** fodder out there.

Thanks for the sexism there... if I were to be on that level... oh boy the things I would say... but I am not... I am a man and I dont want TW2 sex scenes. My response was on page 3 middle of the page on this thread. Then you can try to lump me in with the degenerates if you see fit.

However once again thank you for the stereotype... now I know if talking to you is worth my time. Image IPB

The FCC has no control over video games.  They only regulate over the air tv and radio.  Nothing to do with video games or music or movies.

That is bullsh*t Sian and you know it. As if adults can't enjoy sex without feeling like naughty little boys and girls...seriously this prudery has to stop.  What the hell do you think sex is really like? It's not armor humping or fade to black, it's much like what TW2 shows it to be.

THIS IS NOT ARMOR! If Freddy Mercury fought crime in the getups he wore on stage people wouldnt call it armor.

I think Sian is arguing agains people claiming Witcher 2 romance scenes are very mature and real. Its not because there is sex in it. Its more because that the sex is more pandering to males since you only see a fully nude female instead of a male. Hell ME1 seems to have done it perfectly. It didn't show much nudity but it did show what they were doing. That is how it sould be.

I'm really okay with BioWare romances. They can write a good tasteful romance scene. I like them because I can fill in the gaps after it fades to black. They are classy, romantic and sexy without revealing too much. That's not to say Witcher didn't have sexy scenes. They are both good games and although I prefer Mass Effect's over Witcher, different game atmospheres convey different romance feelings. Hot and steamy bits and ****** features better in Witcher than say in the feel of a BioWare game. Could BioWare probably write a hardcore ass slamming romance scene? Yes. Will they? No. They're definition of romance is more substance rather than show. Where as Witcher's style is to let all hang loose. They are both interesting scene types and I enjoy them both. But classy romance is just BioWare's style. I don't think R-rated ME feels right but that's just me.

Anyway nobody is being "trumped" and BioWare has nothing to be ashamed of. They should be proud they can create such emotion in a game and balance a romance with gameplay so well. Don't belittle a good thing with another good thing, this shouldn't be a competition. Want Witcher scenes, play Witcher.

Well actually a lot of what people find sexually stimulating stems from what they aren't supposed to see or do.  Breasts, for example, are seen in a lot of unindustrialized cultures as baby feeders and not sexualized objects.

Except Geralt is naked in the sex scenes. We don't need to start down the 'nudity is automatically pandering' road.

And I think a lot of folks here need to realize everyone's concept of romance is different. I'd take TW's romance any day over the PG 13 dry humping nonsense Bioware doles out.

It is comedic.

On one hand, you have some saying nudity / sex / cursing is the epitom of maturity. On the other hand, you have people saying TW2 is for horny emotionally undevelopped teenagers and that's mostly what the game is and who it is for.

So yea, funny ****.

When I first bought Mass Effect I wasn't even aware of Romance in fact I didn't even realize it was RPG. It was my first RPG game I ever bought and played. Anyways in this video..

As I was debating to get Dragan Age or Witcher, then came across this while youtubing Witcher 2 gameplay. I was sh!t faced when I saw this video. Honestly Bioware this is depressing Witcher 2 puts all of your "Romance" scenes to shame. Seriously Bioware, their (project red) is beating YOU at your own game. You need to step this up a notch OR have a seperate "Uncut" version.

Most of us are adult about it, but give us something we cannot have. It's "M" for a reason, you might as well take the best out of it. You know Romance in ME and DA drove your sales in millions, you better take back your throne being king sh!t in Romance because you just got Dethroned by Witcher 2, and sad part I haven't even played the game yet.

Bioware this is what WE the CUSTOMERS want but in Mass Effect 3! Now nude women + Galatic universe + Mass Effect 3= Heaven!

Seriously.....they have complete nudity...just imagine guys freaking out about miranda or ashley. I'll just stop there..Look yes there is Parents out there but at least included a Mass Effect 3 Uncut version for hardcore fans out there.

rotflmao
so romance automatically means nudity/sex? good to know..."an uncut version for hardcore fans"?being a hardcore fan means you want your Mass Effect game to turn into porn?

"WE the CUSTOMERS" also includes women and gay guys, fyi (but thank you for your focus on the nude women in game)
and strange as this may seem to you;people who play the Mass Effect games for the story and not because they don't get laid in real life.
But I'm sure BW feels terrible, that for you, they have been dethroned...

If they want to show us blue Asari ass, fine.

I'm good either way.

No one has said that. It obviously isn't the height of maturity, but it is part of what flavors The Witcher.

ME1 sex scenes aren't necessarily dry humping and I would take those over the others. I'm mostly going by the others descriptions of the Witcher sex scenes in which you see more nudity on the females then Geralt.

The op implied it at the very least.
One could appreciate the nudity, sex and cursing, there's nothing wrong with that. But to use sex as an example as to why TW2 is superior to Bioware in terms of romance, is not a convincing argument. It may be superior in sex scenes, but that in and of itself doesn't determine the quality of the romance (it may play a part in it of course).

I don't really care if there is sex in ME2 cause I don't play for that. If your playing for that your going to be really disappointed. :P
