I reached this part in the game last night. I guess if you don't want to make Morrigan mad, you shouldn't try to help out Redcliffe, but if you don't, what is there really to do around there. So, Morrigan got mad.
I went around the whole village and found the dwarf with his bodyguards. They seemed relatively nice, I didn't want to hurt them, but I also didn't want to give up gold. So, because my intimidate sucks, it escalated into a brawl. I thought maybe they would give up once beaten, but no, I had to kill them. I realized this was probably a mistake, but kept playing. I'm trying not to re-load saves, I'm taking what the game gives me and living with it. This is my first time playing the game.
So, I go up to the tavern and meet Lloyd. He is a real scumbag. I intimidated him, but wound up not getting dialog choices I thought I would, or at least none that seemed right. I ended up forking over the 100 silvers for the men's ale. I know that was probably not the best thing to do. I tried to pick-pocket him later but all he had was an elfroot. LOL
So, after all the preparations, the battle starts. Fighting with the knights was fun and everything was going well. After draining those enemies, we ran down the hill to the square. There were alot more enemies and, once during all the commotion, I opened up a friendly corpse by mistake. All his gear was there and several weapons. I said oh well, I'll loot all this stuff later and closed the window.
Well, more enemies were coming through the other side and the allied archers were dying. My group was exhausted, no stamina left. Health potions were almost gone. We finally ended the fight with only one ally alive. None of my people died. I'm playing on Normal difficulty.
So, after the cutscene where we are congratulated, I thought well now we get to loot the fallen enemies and friendlies right? Wrong. There are no corpses to be found. LOL This was quite a disappointment. Ow. I don't have much gold as it is, I've been trying to get a backpack to haul all these objects around, but they are more expensive than I can afford, plus there is no storage facility anywhere.
So, I guess I will have to accept the town's thanks, and that will be all, for the moment. I have not gone up to the tower yet. That is my next move. Anyway, it was a fun battle, the worst I've been in so far besides the Ogre.

All looting has to be done during the fight. If nobody (including Lloyd) dies, you get a special reward (two actually).
Also, switch Morrigan out of the party while talking to Teagan if you don't want to make her mad at you.

If your Persuasion is good Sten can gain approval. Otherwise, he won't agree either.
Just go in with Alistair, Leliana, and the Dog.

So, I went into the castle and submitted Morrigan to the blood ritual. She went into the Fade. It's a good thing I learned about spell combos right before this, as I was able to use Hex/Drain to good effect. I also used Winter's Grasp, which seemed to work real well. Everytime I used it on the demon, she split into 5 parts, which I took to mean she was weakening. I was also able to kill lesser rage demons flat out with Winter's Grasp.
So, I'm still trying to figure this spell out. In the description, it doesn't say anything about damage, it just says it freezes people. Does it do both?

Yes, Winter's Grasp does do damage. It does Frost Damage, so it pretty much murders those rage demons.
Also, be prepared for Alistair to yell at you later on. Just a heads up.

Just bluff it out and tell him right up front that you think it all went quite nicely, thank you. That shuts him down before he can even get going.

It sounds like he's on his first playthrough. Want to let him take it all in.Pro_Consul wrote...

Yeah, I was wondering when anyone would talk about what happened at Redcliffe. Glad Alistair finally brought it up even though he was mad. I let him get it all out of his system. Between this, giving him the locket, and letting Zevran live, his approval has been up and down like a yo-yo. Does he not realize whenever he disapproves of me he's only hurting himself?
